February 19Feb 19 Port moves forward on uncertain federal grant to start stabilizing former factory The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority has voted to accept a $500,000 federal grant to stabilize a 150,000-square-foot former manufacturing facility in South Fairmount, but uncertainty remains given President Donald Trump’s attempts to halt grants and loans. The Port’s board unanimously voted Feb. 12 to accept the grant, which will be used to start cleaning up the former Lunkenheimer Valve Co. site. U.S. Rep. Greg Landsman, D-Mount Washington, secured the grant as a part of the federal 2024 appropriations process. Wednesday at 03:56 PM1 day With another cleanup grant, potential uses for former Lunkenheimer industrial site come into focusThe Hamilton County Landbank, which is managed by the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority, has received a $1.2 million grant to clean up an office building that is part of a massive former manufacturing facility in South Fairmount.The landbank will use the money to clean up asbestos and hazardous material at the former office building adjacent to the Lunkenheimer Valve Co. site. The grant is for a three-story, 50,000-square-foot building at 1500 Waverly Ave., which is to the west of the five-story former foundry built in the 1910s.The office building has widespread asbestos contamination and also needs to be stabilized.
