I had a nice long weekend watching movies and was wondering what everyone else is watching.  I watched, in no particular order:

Kinsey

A Single Man (excellent, but sad)

An Education

Shopgirl

St. Elmo's Fire (again!)

The Prince of Tides (soooo good)

I've been re-watching Farscape for a couple weeks now for my "have something on while I'm working or doing something else" time.  Near the end of season two currently.  I also watched the new BBC/PBS Sherlock show over the weekend which I've really enjoyed but sadly they're doing mini-seasons of 3 90minute episodes per season.

I also saw True Grit which was a hit with my family because we have a lot of connections to the geographic area it takes place in.

I just watched Hot Tub Time Machine. That movie is hilarious!

The Fighter was good. Bale is a waaay better actor than Wahlberg.

I also recommend Casino Jack.

Bale is a waaay better actor than Wahlberg.

You're screwing with me? Marky Mark is a better actor, I mean better rapper, I mean underwear model, umm actor... :P

Seriously, I agree but I don't mind Wahlberg at all, in fact I find him very enjoyable going all the way back to The Basketball Diaries (OK Rockstar was big steaming bag of Dog Poo, but everybody shares the blame in that trainwreck)

I loved Hot Tub Time Machine...a bunch of faux 80's greatness!

Rockstar failed because of the Jennifer Aniston effect. She sucks the good out of every movie she's in. She's hot, but she's terrible. (Office space is the exception, but you could have put any generic actress in her role and there would have been zero impact on the movie)

I started watching Entourage on DVD. Only through seasons 1 and 2 right now. Next up, my Jake and the Fat Man box set.

I still haven't seen Hot Tub Time Machine but it seems to a shoo in for my goofball comedy rotation along with Super Troopers, Office Space, Blazing Saddles and the like.

I forgot that Aniston was in Office Space. She is pretty bad in most of the movies she has done. I watched The Bounty Hunter on Netflix the other weekend. It wasn't horrible but it was far from great, pretty mediocre romantic comedy. Lets put it this way for $10 a month unlimited streaming movies, it was an OK waste of time. If I had spent $20 plus to see it at the theater  I would have been very unhappy.

I think this weekend I unleash the hounds and show the kids Star Wars. My oldest has another kid in his class that keeps dropping spoilers. I was p!ssed when he came home saying "Daddy, did you know that Darth Vader is Luke's father?".

So I told him to tell his class mate that there's no such thing as Santa Claus. Take that, you little f#$%er!

Can't go wrong with silly 1980s horror films.

Plus The Room or Troll 2 for a laugh.

Bale is a waaay better actor than Wahlberg.

I liked Shooter, Italian Job and Four Brothers but he keeps playing the same person. I think he's typecasted. Has he ever even been nominated for an Oscar, with as many movies as he's done? Probably not. Plus, he always talks like he's out of breath. Christian Bale was just supposed to be a supporting actor. It's kinda sad. If I did movies, I think I'd personally avoid being in anything that included Christian Bale.

I love the ridiculousness of Hot Tub Time Machine. They go into that Ski Lodge and everyone is wearing neon colors, there's a guy with a Jheri curl, some dude listening to a portable cassette tape player, Ronald Reagan on TV, a guy standing by a cigarette machine, people with Miami Vice and "Where's the Beef" shirts, etc. They all start freaking out and Craig Robinson went up to that chick and asks her what color Michael Jackson is - she goes, "Black" and he screams and runs off hahahaha. The movie was fun for me because 1986 was the year I was born.

Oh yeah, 127 Hours....that movie is crazy  :-o That was hard to watch. Good movie though.

^Yup. He was nominated for an Best Supporting Actor for "The Departed".

for: The Departed (2006).

Whoa this has potential to be off the wall, he is in an upcoming movie written and directed by Seth MccFarlane about a grown man who's Teddy Bear comes to life due to a childhood wish.

I finally watched "Hot Tub Time Machine" this weekend. Instant classic. Rob Corddry deserves an Oscar or some sort of reward based his performances in "HTTM" and "Harold and Kumar: Escape from gitmo". He is over the top and out of control. And that is good...

It possibly has one of my favorite movie quotes of all times. I totally relate to this because I had a friend that was an a**hole and couldn't keep his mouth shut.

When they are at the Hospital to see Lou.

Doctor:"You are his friends aren't you?"

"If by friends you mean he's an a**hole, but he's our a**hole. Then yes, we are his friends."

This weekend I stuck to a couple comedies.  I watched Only Human, a culture-clash indie movie in Spanish with subtitles that is surprisingly amusing.  Also, I watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for the second time.

I watched Up in the Air finally!  What a good movie, but slightly depressing.  However, George Clooney looks GOOD in a suit!  I also watched Pretty in Pink AGAIN, Stonewall, and Knocked Up for the millionth time.

Also, I watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for the second time.

Only the second time?

Also, I watched Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for the second time.

Only the second time?

Yep.  I really don't like watching movies more than once.  I feel like there are so many out there I haven't seen that I'd like to that it seems like a waste of time to rewatch a movie.  Only the best movies get more than one viewing, and even those I'll probably only watch two or maybe three times.

Parks and recreation is probably the best thing on network tv right now

One of my all time favorites!.

'He says we're going the wrong way'

'Oh he's drunk. How would he know where we're going?'

I love Modern Family and Brothers and Sister.  It's like watching my family on TV.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is so funny.

So I tried to watch Social Network last night, and found Mark Zuckerburg soooo unlikeable and unbelieveably annoying that I had to turn it off!

Hot Tub Time Machine "What Color is Michael Jackson?"

I watched the movie Chloe last night with Julieanne Moore.  It was interesting to say the least!

Hot Tub Time Machine "What Color is Michael Jackson?"

I may just watch it again this weekend. they just nailed the little details of a great comedy like Lou jamming out to Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" in his car and he does the Tommy Lee motion of throwing the drum stick up in the air catching it and then continues air drumming. I must say as a skier they were a coupl of years too soon with so much neon in ski wear, 1988-1990 you probably would have been close to the levels in the movie. I actually had a pair of Kastle GS skis that were flourescent yellow-green on the tops and the bottoms.

I watched "Network" for the first time on Saturday night, it's now on Netflix. What a great movie, still timely today. Seems like certain Media personalities have stolen the schitck from the film and ran with it today....

"I am mad as Hell and I am not going to take it anymore!"...Sounds very familiar.

Finally, after hearing how awesome it was from you guys, watched Hot Tub Time Machine.  Pretty freakin funny!

I`m finally watching Salt. Someone told me it was lame but this movie is cool! Angelina is bad in this movie! I don`t care if she is a Russian National  and a spy. I`m still rooting for her in this flick. I`m about 40 minutes in...

I finally watched 'Taken'. It was a servicable action film. Everyone I know that saw it raved about it. I'm not willing to go that far.

I still hate Liam Neeson. I've never gotten past his awful role in Leap of Faith.

Salt could have been worse - Tom Cruise was originally cast as the lead.

In that case it could have been a lot worse.

Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet? Is this some kind of joke? Next they will tell us Carrot Top is starring in an upcoming Batman.

^ did that come out yet? I have to say it holds no appeal for me whatsoever. Which means I'll probably watch it anyway....I'll watch any dreck out there that's superhero related. Case in point, I just finished the Wolverine movie. Awful...just awful. And I'll watch it again when it comes on.

It seems like comic book movies have remarkable problems with casting.

A teenage-looking Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane?

A alien-blond-looking Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman?

Whoever the hell played Mr. Fantastic?

A boated Ben Affleck as Daredevil?

A somewhat bloated Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl?

A way too old Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider?

A surprisignly unatttactive Kirsten Dunst as the supermodel Mary Jane Watson?

And best/worst of all, TOPHER FOREMAN-DUMBA$$ GRACE AS VENOM???

It's like the studios are trying to outdo themselves in making the worst possible cast choices half the time.  It just goes on and on.

The problem is that they try to take the faces they think will draw the most seats, rather than find the cast that fits the role(s) the best. You shoehorn this generation's 'brat pack' into the movie, and you get Kirsten Dunst (who I'm certain has elephantitis of the head) as Mary jane Watson. Really? You couldn't find anyone who could act OR was attractive?

Spider man is that one superhero movie I can't bear to sit through. Any of them. They're all unequivocably awful. Worse than Police Academy 6 bad.

I like Kirsten.

I like Kirsten.

And you are wrong for doing so!

So what do you think of Ryan Reynolds in the title role of the upcoming Deadpool movie?

I get how Reynolds seems to match the Deadpool character (looks, personality, humor, physique), but you can make a great movie without him.  Deadpool's face and body are massively scarred from Deadpool's mutated cancer and the guy wears a full body costume and mask.  You probably wouldn't ever see Reynolds for more than a few minutes even if we were to take the role - hell, in that Wolverine film, he was actually recast within the movie with another actor.  Say what?  The two didn't even look remotely like each other, even with that other guy's makeup taken into consideration.

I would have been fine with him in a Deadpool movie 5 years ago, but I don't see it happening now.  DC has finally developed a major comic book film, Green Lantern, that is thankfully not yet another Batman and Superman re imagining or non-mainstream comic series (300, V is for Vendetta, Watchmen, etc).  I would say that DC should stick with Reynolds for however long the series will last (2 or 3 movies) so we can get the inevitable Justice League movie.  I'd imagine DC would want Reynolds to ignore other superhero projects and just focus on GL, just like Downey is the face of Iron Man right now. You'd lose that special recognition if Downey were cast as someone like Plastic Man or Aquaman.

And did anyone else find the GL preview practically unwatchable and overly green screened.  Blake Lively has maybe 4 or 5 words in two scenes, and they are shockingly, THE ONION, levels of bad.  I'm not sure if Reynolds, or the character Hal Jordan, work all that much either.  But it's better than nothing.

I don`t like all this negativity.

Gotta love the critics.

I finally started watching Dexter last night, we got the first season this Christmas as a present. So far so good. I would have loved to been on that intial pitch meeting.

"So he he's a sociopath serial killer that works as forensic bloodsplatter investigator for the police. Been done a thousand time, right? But here's the twist..

Wait for it..

wait for it..

He only kills bad people! A serial killer with a sense of morals! it will be great! And funny!

Well I know its not murder if you only kill other killers.

Well I know its not murder if you only kill other killers.

I also like the rational that hitman Martin Blanke (John Cusack) makes in "Grosse Point Blanke", that if somebody is willing to pay me a lot of money to have you killed, chances are you did something extremely bad...

Well that Deadpool in Wolverine was a loose interpretation at best. I didn't even realize Reynolds was on tap for Green Lantern. I thought the Deadpool movie was in production already. After a quick google search looks like it definitely is on hold.

Finally saw Clash of the titans last night. Loved the part where he finds the mechanical owl in the armory and asks 'what's this' and one of the soldiers looks at it in disgust and says 'just leave it'.

CBC- Thats pure gold! If I were a hitman I `d definitely use that rationalization.

Normally, I LUVRE Seth Rogen.  I love chubby, sloppy Jewish guys.  However, now that he's slimmed down and become the GL, I can't stand him.  I'll just have to watch Knocked Up over and over!

Who doesn`t love a chubby, sloppy Jewish guy.

Was Green Hornet any good?
