March 24, 20178 yr Yellow Springs resident Dave Chappelle has two new standup specials on Netflix that are hilarious. If you liked his show, you'll like these.
April 4, 20178 yr Big Little Lies (HBO) was excellent. Would not surprise me if Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley are all nominated for best actress. The OA (Netflix) sucked

The OA (Netflix) sucked I would call the OA a let down, more than it sucked outright. If they could have tied all that stuff together in a way that made sense it would have been excellent, but the big plot twist that explained everything never happened. And the actual ending was ambiguous. We've been watching The Imposters on Bravo which actually is fun Ocean's 11 styled crime caper show.

I haven't seen it but a read a review where the reviewer criticized it as out-of-date because he was still bringing up O.J. Well the O.J. trial was pretty much the biggest thing that ever happened. Nothing since can compare.

May 8, 20178 yr Brockmire on IFC is pretty good. Hank Azaria plays a washed up baseball announcer. Amanda Peet, as a minor league team owner, is surprisingly funny. Not for the easily offended. I don't have IFC but I was able to watch via the AMC app.
May 8, 20178 yr Guardians of the Galaxy II was just as funny and entertaining as the first one IMO. Although I thought the story line was a bit cheesy, the movie is not the typical disappointing retread sequel.

May 9, 20178 yr Yellow Springs resident Dave Chappelle has two new standup specials on Netflix that are hilarious. If you liked his show, you'll like these. It made me laugh a few times but it was Nothing like Chappelle's Show, which is weird because we all know Dave made a smart decision a long time ago, to not be corrupted and compromised by Hollywood and it's corporate culture. You can tell he purposely toned it down for Netflix. I can see why you thought it to be wonderful. I guess he finally sold his soul. He made $60 Million for those Netflix stand-up specials. I would have much preferred him getting that kind of money for another raw season of Chappelle's Show with the same sort of creative freedom that made him who he was back around 2003 but alas... $60M must be the threshold for selling out. He was offered $50M for a new season of Chappelle's Show a long time ago before he completely disappeared from the entertainment industry. The stand-up routine wasn't bad but it's just a little too strange that he was paid $60,000,000.00 on TOP of what he made from ticket sales from the live show, to produce that generic, PC crap. I felt like I was watching a comedian but definitely not Chappelle. Something is seriously off-kilter with that show.
June 23, 20177 yr Netflix - Bloodline. Season 3, like Season 2, just can't match Season 1 for me. Oh well. Like most Netflix-original shows, I get hooked early, but the longer they go the less interest I have. Hulu - we just started the Handmaid's Tale. It's ****ed up. Very Stable Genius

June 28, 20177 yr I've been catching up on the latest season of Orange Is The New Black. I'm almost mid-way through. I've always loved that show and all the characters but this season is a little disappointing and I think it's because the entire season so far (and probably the entire season) involves the riot that started at the end of last season. It's just moving too slow and I'm getting impatient, I guess. I'm watching a documentary right now, called "The Red Pill." It's a documentary made by a former Feminist, about the Men's Rights movement. It's really interesting and touches on subjects that never seem to get talked about, except for on the far reaches of the internet. Male suicide rates, deaths on dangerous jobs, epically failed custody battles, paternity fraud, male genital mutilation that we call circumcision - all sorts of stuff. My girlfriend is a Feminist and was really offended when I told her I planned on watching it because I like to explore all sides of an argument; she said MRAs are just making a mockery of the Feminist movement and blah blah blah, but to be honest, the issues they talk about are almost entirely different from what seems to entail the Feminists agenda and if you really do care about equality, you'd probably find this documentary pretty interesting. Here's a preview:

It's just moving too slow and I'm getting impatient, I guess. My roommate was a die hard fan of that show. She used to call me over to watch, um, certain scenes. Now my gf is watching the same season you are, and though I admittedly haven't been paying good attention, the show just seems trashy, exploitative, wildly unrealistic, and features really dumb characters. I'm sure there's a silver lining somewhere or it wouldn't be so successful. Now I'm getting really into this: Fascinating look at the criminal justice system, scandal, public perception and obviously, religion. I won't spoil it, but I will say what's most intriguing is that I don't really believe the key witness. She is such a sympathetic figure, and I think she's definitely experienced abuse. But she claims to have some very wild experiences, which were only recently revealed because they were repressed memories. Very controversial subject.
June 28, 20177 yr A lot of what's in Orange is the New Black, is actually based on real events. The show is based on a book by a former inmate (who actually, currently lives in Victorian Village in Columbus!) But I think the last few seasons probably deviated heavily from her book. I don't really like talking about it, along with a lot of other things from my childhood, but my mom and dad both went to prison for drug smuggling when I was 9-13 years old and believe it or not, a lot of unbelievable stuff that happens in OITNB are things my mom told me happened while she was in prison in Alderson, WV. Suicides, deaths, drugs/contraband, a lot of guards sleeping with inmates and getting them pregnant. Subsequent cover-ups. My mom likes the show - I know she's at least seen the first couple seasons; she told me all of the characters on the show are true to the people you're in prison with. She was also in prison with Martha Stewart and P. Diddy's aunt. Ha. It's funny, OITNB even has a Martha Stewart-inspired character. Anyway, it's more realistic than you'd imagine. My mom is actually p!ssed that she didn't write that book first.

I don't have IFC but I was able to watch via the AMC app. I can't think of a better person to play the Brockmire than Hank Azaria. It's been my favorite new comedy since Archer started years ago. The wife and I have been watching Nip/Tuck on Netflix. It was a drama on FX from 2005 to 2010. I watched it originally on TV, but it's been so long I forgot much of the storylines. I knew the wife would like it because of the crazy drama. From what I remember the show goes off the rails in the 5th (last) season. We are about to finish season 3 and it's been great so far. It's from the same creator/producer as American Horror Story and Glee, Ryan Murphy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361217/
June 28, 20177 yr Twin Peaks The Return is WEIRD.... even by David Lynch standards. Kind of painful to watch, but I have to press on. Some parts are like those Family Guy scenes where Seth McFarlane is trying to annoy the audience. Mostly, though, it is just incoherent. The original show was weird, but it wasn't difficult to follow. I'm mostly lost with this re-boot. Maybe I'm not artistic/eccentric enough to understand.
June 28, 20177 yr I'm mostly lost with this re-boot. Maybe I'm not artistic/eccentric enough to understand. Tell me about it. I stopped by a watch party at a local bar and it was so weird. Totally surrounded by all these cultish Lynch disciples wildly applauding at every terrible scene. I was actually looking forward to the reboot, but it's hysterically bad so far (saw first two epis).
June 28, 20177 yr ^The last two (7 and especially 8 ) make the first few episodes seem very tolerable by comparison. I was a huge fan of the original series and naturally was excited for the return, but I can't understand how the fan website ratings are so high. It has a 95% on rotten tomatoes and 9/10 on IMDb
June 28, 20177 yr Yeah, I had no idea what was going on in episode 8. It was pretty and all, but came out of nowhere. I've been avoiding reading any reviews or analyses until after the season is complete. I just want to watch it, and then maybe piece it together afterwards. I do feel like I should re-watch the movie, though. For some reason that's not as fresh in my memory even though I've watched it more recently than the old shows.
July 27, 20177 yr I finished with The Last Kingdom (Netflix series) ... and needed my medieval fix, so I finally bit the bullet and started Game of Thrones a few weeks ago ... I've been binging at every available time slot as possible. Damn, what an amazing series! Every single episode is money. I'm on S06 now. How's S07 everyone? Please don't publish any spoilers, but is it just as good as the previous seasons?
July 27, 20177 yr My girlfriend and I just finished "Friends from College." It just premiered on Netflix a few weeks ago. It was pretty funny. I'm used to watching Netflix shows like Orange Is The New Black and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt where there's a huge, annoying cliff hanger at the end and I have to wait an entire year to see what happens next but with Friends From College, almost everything was resolved in the last episode. It makes me wonder if it was just meant to be a small project/mini series. Maybe they plan to wait a while and get feedback first, before deciding to continue with it. I don't know. I'd love to see more seasons of it.
October 30, 20177 yr Blade Runner 2049 was REALLY good, and now I'm interested in seeing the original. An almost 3 hour film that doesn't feel anywhere that long, even with some slow scenes.
January 30, 20187 yr Holy ****. Check out Wormwood on Netflix. It was a very gripping documtary/docudrama. Very Stable Genius
January 31, 20187 yr We're watching House of Cards finally, currently a bit into season 5. Great show overall, but wow Spacey's character is unlikable. I can tell in season 5 it's losing steam. In my own time I've been binge watching Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee hosted by Jerry Seinfeld. I watched a handful of episodes when it was only on Youtube years ago . I finally got a chance to watch the new episodes since Netflix picked it up. I am completely addicted to it. Some of the episodes are completely unwatchable when the guest is boring. Others, like with Trevor Noah, Jon Stewart, Gary Shandling, etc are just a joy to watch. The episodes are about 15-18 minutes long and just fly by.
March 29, 20187 yr Roseanne is back! Ratings: Roseanne Revival Opens Huge, Biggest Sitcom Telecast in 3-1/2 Years http://tvline.com/2018/03/28/roseanne-revival-ratings-season-10-premiere/ The classic comedy returned on Tuesday to 18.2 million total viewers and a 5.2 demo rating (across its double-episode run, per finals), easily marking this TV season’s biggest launch — besting even Young Sheldon‘s premiere, which did 17.2 mil/3.8 leading out of Big Bang Theory.
March 29, 20187 yr After finally getting around to watching Narcos, I'm obsessed with Pablo Escobar. There are a few other documentaries on him making my list.
March 29, 20187 yr Rick and Morty. Hadn't even heard of it until a little while ago and now I'm on my second run of watching the series. "Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." - Warren Buffett
March 29, 20187 yr Rick and Morty. Hadn't even heard of it until a little while ago and now I'm on my second run of watching the series. Running on Czech TV Comedy Central as well... Between Family Guy and South Park.
April 23, 20187 yr I've been re-watching "Police Women of Cincinnati" on Amazon Prime. I had completely forgotten about the show until I cracked a joke about it to my wife only to find out she had never even heard of it. It seems the show predated our relationship by just about 1 month - having originally aired in early 2011. It's pretty interesting to see the flashbacks to 2011 - some of usual open-air drug and prostitution markets are now yuppie central, and some are exactly the same. Some of the usual suspects are still up to no good.

Some of the usual suspects are still up to no good. There was a COPS episode filmed in Cincinnati around 2003 that I couldn't help but laugh hysterically at. They went to break up a domestic dispute in a basement apartment over in Western Hills and just as the camera man walks down the steps somebody throws an old tube television. Throwing a flat screen can never hope to be as dramatic as an old 35" tube TV!
April 23, 20187 yr Especially the tube breaks and all that horrible gas starts hissing out of it. There was an artist who created giant prints from that little dot that old TV's used to make when you turned them off. http://www.christopher-giglio.com/images.html He bought a bunch of junk TV's in the 90s and laid color film over them in a dark room, then developed the film, and got this stuff.
May 16, 20187 yr The show Silicon Valley had a really funny take on the tax breaks that corporations demand when opening a new facility in the U.S. (Spoiler alert!) After Hooli gets a bunch of tax breaks to build their new factory in the struggling town of Goldbriar, NC, this happens:
September 19, 20186 yr Just finished The Staircase - another true crime doc on Netflix. It's more about the criminal justice system. Would love to hear from any lawyers who've watched it. Very Stable Genius

It's so unprofessional. I'm hardly surprised years later he turned out to be lying about his experience and credentials. Anyhow I don't recall a more bizarre case than this one. Truly strange. I thought the defense attorney did as good a job as anyone could have under the circumstances. The prosecutors bothered me too. All these true crime docs bother me but I'll keep watching lol.
November 14, 20186 yr King of the Hill is now on Hulu. I just watched the first few episodes of Season 1 and it's a shocking how many of Dale Gribble's conspiracy theories perfectly line up with the ones people like Alex Jones are still spreading today.
November 15, 20186 yr I just completed the third (and most recent) season of The Man in the High Castle. It's an alt-history/scifi show based on Philip K. Dick's novel of the same name. The Axis won WW2 and split America so that the Japanese control the western US (capital in SF), the Nazis control the eastern US (capital in NYC; DC was blown to bits), and the Mountain West is the "Neutral Zone," acting as an anarchic buffer between the two. So far, I'm digging it. It's an Amazon Prime exclusive.
November 20, 20186 yr Really enjoyed the first two seasons of The Man in the High Castle. Working through season three now. The sixth, and final, season of House of Cards is so, so bad. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
November 20, 20186 yr The Haunting of Hill House has been a lot of fun to watch. Very tense and scary.

I watched all of Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, House of Cards, and all other shows I started that went past their prime. I think House of Cards really lost it's edge after that first season. There were moments of greatness in every season, but the bad largely outweighed the good. This season was no different. Seeing them as underdogs fighting their way up the ladder was far more interesting than seeing them on top fighting people trying to just take them down.

It jumped the shark a whole back. 3 hours ago, ryanlammi said: I can't let go of any show. I'm kind of the opposite: I'm sure I am passing on shows I would like without giving them a fair shake. Partly because I've been burned too many times by watching bad shows, hoping they'd get good again. And partly because there's just an absurd amount of content out there. If something doesn't grab me early and hold on, I just don't have time for it. A show like Black Mirror is really refreshing, where every episode is self-contained. I would expect some eventual backlash against the EPPICCCC series that go on for many seasons. It's a great format when it works, but man is it sad when you find yourself wasting many hours hoping for that fleeting magic to come back. A couple Sundays ago, I found myself at a bar/restaurant that apparently does a Walking Dead viewing night. They usually show sportsball, but that night every TV went to zombies. Not going back there on a Sunday until the season's over, haha. Talk about a show that jumped the shark a long time ago.
