When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?
August 28, 20213 yr I just watched the Watchmen series in two days. For the most part it was great, especially the Hooded Justice episode. Regina King was fantastic, the Dr. Manhattan twist clever, Jeremy Irons' arc was insane but fun, and I love the Looking Glass mask. ' The ending was a bit meh... they probably should have gone the Doomsday Clock route rather than Inception. Still, a well done series that was very satisfying.
September 9, 20213 yr Succession is probably the best thing out currently. I need season three NOW. Or a Tom and Greg web series in the interim. White Lotus is very watchable too. Some unexpected visuals you don't see ordinarily, but still well done.
September 26, 20213 yr my spouse is liking things we do in the shadows on hulu. it's a comedy about vampires on staten island. its made in part by jermaine from flight of the conchords.

September 27, 20213 yr Boardwalk Empire has been a little slow at times, but ultimately a good series. Finishing up season 4 now. Guilt was fantastic but unfortunately only lasted 4 episodes. It's well worth a look. The Bookdocks has been a joy to rewatch despite season 4's noticeable drop in quality due to McBruder's lack of involvement. When is the reboot coming out? Is it even? Let's see... Doom Patrol is next on the list after I finish Boardwalk. And finally, I rewatched Matrix (mostly holds up), suffered through the sequel, and fast forwarded the third turd. My heart will break if Animatrix doesn't hold up. Just can't get excited about the new movie.

September 27, 20213 yr It's not like Succession where you can watch 5 episodes in a row without blinking, but overall I'm glad to have stuck with it. Also, I think I'll rewatch Cowboy Bebop. The casting of the movie is... questionable, but I've got a hunch the live action will be like Preacher and the Boys: a quality show with noticeable deviation from the source material. October 5, 20213 yr Just throwing this here... In light of the #StreamingWars, we are now strategically deciding when to have subscriptions to the various streaming platforms. -Netflix: shared with in-laws and not our decision of when to cancel/pause -YouTube TV: also shared with in-laws and they like it a lot more than we do -Disney+: we have a subscription to it through my parents/siblings, but not a service we'd pay for otherwise on our own and we don't really use it -Amazon Prime Video: we have had in the past but we don't have Prime currently...we could easily get a log in from a friend or family member if we so desired -Hulu: we just decided to cancel at the end of the month -HBO Max: we get an offer for 1/2 off for 6 months. we had built up a list for this occasion, so send those HBO recommendations! another one where I suppose we could get a login from someone else if we wanted I thought it was supposed to get easier cutting the cord, but if you pay for all the streaming services, it's basically just as much as for cable. We'd have some harder decisions to make if we did not have some family members who were so insistent on keeping certain streaming services in constant rotation. We took a look at all those (and, good grief, I'm realizing this doesn't even take into account Paramount+ or Peacock...there really are too many streaming platforms now) and realized there are probably weeks, if not months, we could/would go without ever opening one or two (or three, or four). So now we're just making lists of things we think we might be interested in watching at some point. We'll probably go back to Hulu next year at some point and cancel HBO, etc. etc. That said, one of the last Hulu Originals we watched was Nine Perfect Strangers. My wife read the book and she said there was some divergence from it (I won't spoil it, if you've read the book). It was pretty good, but definitely not as intriguing as the hype was building it up to be. If you skip the trailers/previews, it's worth a watch, imo (i.e. don't set unrealistic expectations for what it might be). Edited October 5, 20213 yr by DarkandStormy Very Stable Genius

October 8, 20213 yr Doom Patrol has been a lot of fun, and it's always great seeing/hearing Brendan Frasier get work, especially since he had been blackballed for years. This show must have some budget though. Sure there are a few unintentional janky special effects - cough, the knife by Robotman's throat was pretty bad - but the show looks great as a mini movie production each episode. And for Robotman to be in so many scenes in what I assume is a suit with limited CG enhancements. That has got to be a pain for the actor/stuntman. Entertaining show. Beats the hell out of the CW (oh poor Flash, where and when did you go so wrong).

October 20, 20213 yr Juts finished Only Murders in the Building. Lots of fun, and you can never go wrong with Steve Martin and martin Short. Selena Gomez really cannot act, but I didn't mind her overall. The cliffhanger that sets up season 2 seems forced? nonsensical? IDK, but I'll give these guys the benefit of the doubt.
October 20, 20213 yr Also saw McCabe and Mrs. Miller for the first time. Boy howdy is that thing a middle finger to the conventional western. Absolutely loved it.
October 20, 20213 yr Doom Patrol hasn't really done it for me, but I'm finishing up season 3 now. When it's weird, it's good. When it's dramatic, it's good. But too little of both happen, and the show feels lifeless often. More Danny and Mr. Negative, fewer flashbacks and whining. What else... Succession episode 1 season 3 was incredible. I think I laughed at literally every word Greg said. And I've been rewatching Home Movies. 20 years later and I'm still cracking up: Edited October 20, 20213 yr by TBideon

October 26, 20213 yr is anybody going to see dune? or has seen it? thoughts? i wanted to see it on imax, but i dk, its been packed at show times, so i will wait and get a booster shot first, so no rush. i liked the books when i was a kid.
October 28, 20213 yr Dune was fairly watchable though it had the same issues with the Lynch film: constant mumbling, with hard-to-hear and understand dialogue at times. Maybe that kind of narration works better in books, not so much on HBO Max. The movie needed more Brolin and Momoa, fewer Zendaya visions. One thing is for sure: Lucas (or whoever actually wrote Star Wars) stole a ton of sh*t from the books. Also, and I don't know if it's just me, but there was some chemistry between the son and mother; for example the scene where they disrobe back-to-back. Who knows... This Dune movie is HIGHLY Oedipal, no doubt. I thought the production design was underwhelming, and found myself wishing Kurosawa had directed the action sequences. Then i wished he directed the whole damn thing, but i do that with most movies lol. Also, I found myself bored to tears for the first 40 minutes. If someone had not told me how the story goes, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
October 28, 20213 yr I entertained myself with multiple Berenstein/Berenstain moments on Momoa's facial hair. It seemed to change in every scene, including one time when he was fairly clean shaven. Or was he all along and I entered the abyss. Edited October 28, 20213 yr by TBideon
October 29, 20213 yr I enjoyed Squid Games, but the ending of the last episode left me "meh". I'm not sure I want a season 2. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
October 29, 20213 yr If you can watch Kong v Godzilla without fast forwarding virtually every single human scene, I admire you. The human characters in these kinds of films are usually bad archetypes, but they went all out on sh*t characters, writing and acting in this HORRIBLE MOVIE.

November 9, 20213 yr I watch Jeopardy most days of the week - the contestants last night all missed what I thought was a pretty easy $1600 question: Jeopardy contestants whiff on Cincinnati question https://www.fox19.com/2021/11/09/jeopardy-contestants-whiff-cincinnati-question/
November 13, 20213 yr I've seen David Lynch films that make more sense than the Berzerk sequel from 2016. How does this exist in the same universe as the 1997 version?? And the cgi monsters are repetitive and boring. Now the pregnant(?) anthropomorphic egg... that I can get behind.
December 5, 20213 yr Last Night in Soho is an exceptionally unpleasant movie and movie experience. I highly recommend passing. After two episodes of Arcane, I.... think I like it. The animation and voice work is fantastic, and it's a unique world. I also finished the live action Cowboy Bebop. Boy did they swing and miss with Vicious; not a fan. He and Julie get wayyyyyyyyyy too much screen time as well. However, I did love the polarizing Ed cameo at the end. Talk about a faithful adaptation with that performance. F is for Family season 5 was fantastic too; I'll miss the series. Edited December 7, 20213 yr by TBideon
December 20, 20213 yr I swear to god watching The Expanse is like time travel. Just burned through the first two episodes of the new season, and I don't think I even blinked once.
December 20, 20213 yr Just finished the new season of The Witcher. Pretty good, not going to completely rave about it but I don't consider it wasted time. Some scenes were outstanding and will probably get a number of re-watches on YouTube if they're allowed to stand there. I will say one letdown just on general principle: On general principle, I dislike season-ending cliffhangers, and this definitely had that. I had this same frustration with the end of season 1 of Warrior Nun.
December 24, 20213 yr Matrix 4 is HORRIBLE. I can't believe I'm delaying the new Expanse episode to watch through this boring vomit.

I had this same frustration with the end of season 1 of Warrior Nun. From the perspective of well directed and well edited this is a great show. Having read the books and played the video games it does not stick to plot whatsoever at points and it made it harder for me to watch because I at times got lost with where the show was headed. I understand that the directors had to use creative license to make the show more interesting for the screen because the books are slow moving and deep Into character development. Still probably one of the better shows out there right now and I absolutely recommend it.
December 28, 20213 yr The Wheel of Time pilot isn't doing it for me at all: "She'd piss in your mouth and tell you it was raining". Yeah, let's use that line. And the new Expanse episode doesn't come for three full days. These are dark times indeed.
December 28, 20213 yr Finally watched "Don't Look Up" on Netflix last night. It's pretty good and scary at the same time. A frightening view of modern society in the age of social media.
