As far as movies, we watched "The American" last night with George Clooney.  Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen.

That film was remarkably bad

I liked Entourage but after the first season I stopped watching it for some reason.

The Descent is one of the best horror movies of all time. Great score as well.

Finished the first season of Dexter last night. Very good.

Finally finished Route 66. The show was shot on location in 61 - 63. About 4 episodes in Cleveland. Not much at all along Route 66. The creator, Stirling Silliphant has written tons of stuff.

Yesterday was Valentines Day which for me, meant making it a Blockbuster night - getting intoxicated by myself and watching Eat Pray Love. It's a good movie but how does being a b!tch just come so naturally to Julia Roberts? I don't care for her face either. Julia, why the long face? Sorry, that's mean but the movie drags on longer than her face and she had it all and didn't even realize how good she had it from the start. Wtf. I felt bad for her husband, man.

I wouldn't watch that with my wife, much less by myself. Now, Mystic Pizza, that's a masterpiece.

AJ you're just a hater! You want all hot tubs cold.  I also got Social Network but haven't watched it yet. What do you guys think about starting a movie club? Every week we agree to watch a movie or two that most of us would probably like and then after a couple days when everyone has seen it, we all critique it. We could use the newest releases but some of you might use Net Flix which gets movies a few weeks later.

I'm still mad that "Tokyo!" movie was so lame.  On the back cover it was like, "Do we shape cities or do cities shape us?" Come on, you planning nerds would have bought into that too!

Too hot in the hot tub!

BTW, I am on the record (in celebrity crushes) as having a thing for Julia. What can I say? I'm an equestrian.

Julia Roberts annoys me. Btw, Unstoppable is great. Based on a true story, too. If you're into trains, watch it. Man, I'm sitting there watching it thinking where the hell are these towns they're talking about? Are they real? Stanton? I know Scranton. I can't believe the dumb@ss engineer that caused the fiasco. I also don't understand why they had all those large oil storage tanks right beside that elevated rail line curve. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

You guys have to see Due Date. This movie is nuts!

Watching "Devil" by M. Night Shyamalan. Egads that guy can't write his way out of a paper bag.

I finally started watching Mad Men.  I'm on season 2, and I'm LOVING it!

Unstoppable is pretty damn good.  The names of the towns were fictionalized and those oil tanks under that curve aren't there in real life.  That curve is in Bellaire, OH and the tanks were CG'd in for dramatic effect.  That movie was a big thing around here because there were many shooting locations that were in our area.  Denzel Washington and crew rented out an entire hotel in Lock Haven (about 35 miles from Williamsport and across the Beech Creek from our model railroad club) and there was a lot of filming between Lock Haven and State College. There were a few other shooting locations in Ohio too.  Mostly around West Virginia/Southwestern PA.

You may not want to move too fast through Mad Men; new episodes are still 4-5 months away.  The wait between seasons for 13 episodes/season or less shows really is a bitch.

I started watching Fringe over the weekend.  Liking it more than I expected, but not a favorite yet.

I started watching this HBO show on DVD, titled Bored to Death. Its about a writer who makes an ad on craigslist as an unlicensed private detective. Its kinda funny in a Curb Your Enthusiasm kind of way.

I watched The Town last night and thoroughly enjoyed it!  I'm not a huge Ben Affleck fan, I'm more of a Matt Damon girl, but it was fun!  Now I'm obsessed, once again, with Boston!

Hey Emmie I rented the first season of Madmen but just couldn't get into it; kinda boring. That show is kinda sexist! In the first episode, this woman is telling the new secretary, "Don't worry, these typewriters look intimidating but they made it easy enough for women to use." "Now, go home, put a paper bag over your head, look at your body and examine your strengths and weakenesses. The men in this office look for something between a waitress and a mother." I was like wtf!? The 1960s... Good loorrdd.

That's the thing that's so fascinatiing, at least to me.  That was only, what, 50 years ago.  I was shocked at first, but then I remembered the time frame of the show, and realized that that's what it was LIKE.  We've come a long way baby, but yet still have so far to go!

Now I'm watching The United States of Tara.  So good.  I've loved Toni Colette since Muriel's Wedding and this show is AMAZING!

Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Quite the show.

1.) ...Now, you come to me and you say, "Give me justice..." but you don't even have the decency to call me the Godfather. And you come to my house on the day that my daughter is to be married. And you ask me to kill someone for money. But that is not justice... 2.) Wow, did you write that? 1.) No, the Mafia wrote it...

Prison Break!  I own each season on DVD.

Caught the first two episodes of Game of Thrones.  Seems like this will be another great HBO special.

Saw the first episode, and so far I'm hooked. They have definitely not held back on the production quality.

I'm glad that series is working out.  Just curious, have you guys read the books?  I've been worried that the show would be all expostion-as-dialogue and come off clunky.

The first couple of episode's are slow, it gets going about midway through the first season. The first couple of episodes really play up the lack of PC and casuall sexism and racism. It comes off kind of clunky.

I haven't read the books, but the dialogue is very good. Plus, HBO has a series of 10 minute back story pieces explaining the families / kingdoms, and the dynamics between them. After I watched the first episode I was a little confused, but once I watched those mini-episodes, it made much more sense.

The cinematography is great as well. They do a great job of set design, and they do a great job with the action so far. It's not for the kiddies, though. Lot's of nudity, and apparently this particular world doesn't have much compunction with regard to incest.

Edit: I will say, though, that in reading some of the backstory on the "A Song of Fire & Ice" series, this series bears a lot of resemblance to Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series (and both seem to have borrowed heavily from Wheel of Time).

Oh....Geek check...sorry.

Not a Wheel of Time fan myself, although Martin credits Robert Jordan's endorsement for helping Game of Thrones initially catch on.  It's funny how polarizing those series can be.  People usually love one and hate the other.

I gave up on WOT, about 6 books in. I just don't have the energy or time to commit to a series like that, which is why I love that a well written fantasy novel can be translated well to TV / movies  these days.

I have no idea what Wheel of Time is, but I would somewhat compare Game of Thrones to Lord of the Rings.  There definitely is the supernatural element, fictional land, no clear sense of era, etc...... though maybe not as much as LOTR.

Didn't know about the mini-episodes, AJ.  I need to watch those as I am still a bit confused about the background.

You are also making a presumption with that incest comment, no?  I know they SAY they are siblings, but I assumed it was a ruse after what happened in the first episode.

I don't think so. Everything I've read indicates they are actual brother and sister. Also the albino exiled brother and sister (Targaryen family) come from a family that has a history of marrying brother to sister, hence the reason the previous king was unstable.

LOTR is the grandpappy of all these series. It goes without saying that they all borrow some aspects (some more than others) of Tolkien.

re: the mini-episodes, I don't know when HBO airs them live. They came up as an on-demand feature on my U-verse when I first searched for the series to DVR it.

Yeah, thumbs up for Game of Thrones so far.  It's amazing how many good series HBO produces.

I'm addicted to Hardcore Pawn more so than Pawn Stars. I can't stop!

Kill the Irishman was AWESOME!  Somewhat of a more griddy, more authentic Goodfellas...... they even used the same guy who played Paulie to be the head boss from NY.  Just the right amount of humor.  Ray Stevenson was great as Danny Greene.  He gets my Oscar vote!  Vincent D'onofrio doing his best to pull off a Great Lakes accent had one of his best performances.  Val Kilmer sucked as the cop though.  I did get a kick out of the environment they depicted his place of death to be (definitely not Lyndhurst).

Twas a great movie.

Did anyone watch South Park last night?  I'm still messed up over it.

A couple of guys in our ATL & DC offices did this.  It seems like fun to me.

Is Game of Thrones a mini-series or will there be more seasons?  Anyone who watched on Sunday will know why I am asking...

It's a Series.  It's been renewed for a 2nd season

I hear they're casting the second season/book right now.  Then the third book is supposed to be split into two seasons.

This is correct, they are still finishing casting for the second season which will start in 2012.

Which makes me cry. This is the most epic fantasy TV series ever.

Ba-lalalalalala! Haven't seen it yet!!

This TV series is based on A Song of Fire and Ice by George RR Martin. I think there are 7 books to the series. Game of thrones is the first book.

Edit: G-d@ammit! If they're going to draw this out, how the heck am I supposed to cancel HBO?
