Anybody guess where these were taken, what was the location called (prior to being torn down)?

Well I know it's an Army post.

The crest on the building in the second pic is a Drill Sergeants' badge. And it seems like every military post uses the same handful of building designs that doesn't help. The buildings look like WWII era, by the time of the Korean war and Vietnam war it seems like the Army discovered that bricks last longer than cheap wooden buildings.

The fact that the roads haven't fallen apart leads me to guess that this is somewhere in the south.

The buildings remind me so much of my grandfather's farmhouse and all the other buildings he had around circa 1930...

And I have no clue where this is.

Is it the base in Brookfield?

Is it the base in Brookfield?

Nope. Might have to give hints later.

OK.  Where/what is this place?

I'm guessing the Ravenna Arsenal (Ordinance Arsenal or something like that).

This was my first thought as well.... But I know the arsenal and some(?) of the building are still there as of Christmas 2010

Jesus, everyone keeps ripping off my thread ideas. It's really getting obnoxious.

Gomer Pyle's barracks?

Those barracks are identical to the drafty firetraps we slept in during basic training at Lackland AFB in 1962. I could see light through cracks in the walls. San Antonio had some of the crappiest winter weather I've ever experienced; not all that cold, but damp, damp, damp, chilly and windy. At night the barracks sounded like a pneumonia ward.

We had frequent fire drills; it was hammered into us that if one of those caught fire, we had about sixty seconds to get out before it would be too late.

That is too much "roughing it" for me.

Gomer Pyle's barracks?

No he stayed in a Quonset hut.

Okay, one poster mentioned a drill sergeant badge. Very good observation as this training area was indeed,

from the outset, for Basic-AIT. The buildings were demoed in the early 90's. A new training barracks area was

constructed on this base in the late 70's early 80's, down the road. The new training area's name shares the same

name as a famous road in Silicon Valley, where venture capitalists, Biotech, Telcom, Semiconductor, and internet

companies have all set up shop over the years.

Again we are looking for the name of the older training area. I did basic and ait and the older training area

back in the mid 80's.

For the love of the joint chiefs of staff, just tell us already!

^ For real.

Man I thought someone would figure it out.

"Harmony Church", Ft. Benning Ga.

I liked to older barracks better than the newer barracks, which were nicknamed starships,

located in the Sand Hill area of Ft. Benning.

Even in newer barracks there is still fire guard duty, at least one person awake at all times. During the winter those WWl WWll era barracks would get pretty dam chilly. My old battalion did some field training at Ft. Knox in old barracks during the winter.

I had googled some of the clues and Harmony Church came up, but then you threw me with the 'name of a street in Silicon Valley'. I couldn't find a street name similar to that.
