Posted January 27, 201114 yr I'm not sure if I'm violating UO terms by doing this, but I'm conducting a research study for a graduate level psychology course. I need to get as many people as possible, so I'm taking advantage of every possible avenue (yes I'm in desperation mode ). Attached is a link to a survey which only asks for a few minutes of your time. Your participation is needed and greatly appreciated. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3NTS6TY Thanks, HHS78
January 27, 201114 yr Thanks for the quick replies. I have no idea who completed the survey, but a few minutes after I posted the link here, my count increased by 3. Thanks a bunch! Keep em' comin.
January 27, 201114 yr You know what's a little strange to me; the people who talk the most about their ethnic heritage and take pride in it seem to be the most interested in people from other backgrounds. That's just from my own observations (living in the city).

That's just from my own observations (living in the city). How is this strange? From my observations, I would argue the opposite. The people who you see flying ethnic and cultural flags, talking about their heritage, and attending ethnic parades seem to be less interested in people from other backgrounds. They seem more concerned with 'preserving' their own heritage rather than learning about and integrating with people from different backgrounds. The survey on ethnicity was not my idea, although I created it. We had to create a survey where variables could be compared and analyzed. There are four people in our group; 3 of us being minorities, so the idea sort of just 'evolved'.
January 27, 201114 yr well I loved/hated how you asked the same question in 2 or 3 different ways. Ahhh, you noticed. Lol
January 27, 201114 yr well I loved/hated how you asked the same question in 2 or 3 different ways. Ahhh, you noticed. Lol Thats what I do all day boo! So when are we going to see the results of this survey?
January 27, 201114 yr Another big thanks to the UO members who have completed the survey. You guys are a big help! Seriously, thanks.
January 27, 201114 yr I think the questions don't fit the identities provided. The examples provided are racial classifications, not ethnic ones, I would argue - a couple are a mix of race and ethnicity.

It's funny how much to the "left" my results jumped when I posted the link on here. Definitely wasn't unexpected though. UO and Facebook has saved my life!

My professor is pleased with the survey, and thought very highly of it, which is all I'm really concerned about right now. I'm just ready to be done with this project!
January 27, 201114 yr My bad MTS! I was skimming through the posts and just realized you said "we". Hopefully I can release the results on here once it is done-of course that will have to be cleared with my professor prior to doing that.

January 27, 201114 yr ^ Lol. You know we can't read. I'm still waiting for my other reading workbooks to come in the mail. Damn FedEx :whip:. Hurry up. HELP!!!

Message boards are terrible places to do accurate studies. People on this forum mostly love multiculturalism and diversity. Post a link on Stormfront and see how quickly the results change. That site is always good for a laugh.
January 27, 201114 yr ^Numbers my friend, numbers. That's all I'm concerned about. If you "strongly disagree" with people of different backgrounds mingling together, or if you "strongly agree", it makes no differnce to me. I'm assuming you participated. If you did, thanks a lot!
January 27, 201114 yr Post a link on Stormfront and see how quickly the results change. That site is always good for a laugh. Stormfront is a hoot. They used to have a great Tolkein/Lord of the Rings subforum. I was a member and posted there a bit, was really getting into that forum , but was booted for being too liberal. They do see themselves in the terms of this survey, "white" (by which they really mean European) being a sort of ethnicity. I usually dont use the term "ethnic" in reference to the categories in this survey, more in terms of ancestry ("ethnic" used to be shorthand for urban dwellers of eastern and southern European ancestry).
