But what the future looks like for Yankee Trader is up in the air. "We might move. We don't know yet," said Lynette Howard, who co-owns the store with her sister Debby Williams. The two inherited the store at 463 N. High St., across from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, 10 years ago from their late mother, Edith Holler. It has been a landmark there for 44 years and was on Front Street for 20 years before that. Customers have noticed far less on the shelves recently. Williams said they hope to sell the 55,000-square-foot building and move to a smaller place with better parking. July 2, 201113 yr ^ That is some great news for the Yankee Trader Building. In fact, it's hard to envision a more ideal situation than what is being planned. First, it is being bought by a group of architects that want to keep and renovate this beautiful old building. Second, the architects will be moving their 10-man office from Westerville into the second floor of the building. Third, the ground floor will be renovated as a restaurant. Fourth, the upper floors will be renovated into apartments. You couldn't write up a better renovation plan for the Yankee Trader Building! Kudos to Triad Architects! And this will be a serious upgrade for this area too. For as much fun as the quirky Yankee Trader business was, it really did underutilize the building. A restaurant, an architect's office and three floors of apartments will bring much more activity to the area. Below is a 2008 photo of the Yankee Trader Building. Isn't it a beautiful old building that just needs some shining up?

Previously used for more than four decades by Yankee Trader, a novelty and costume shop, the building was vacated in 2010. Redevelopment plans include a fast-casual hamburger restaurant on the ground floor, office space for Triad Architects on the second floor, and 12 high-end apartments on the upper three floors. The property will house more than 70 jobs upon completion of the rehabilitation project.

The eleven apartments on floors 3 thru 5 are being marketed as the Yankee on High Apartments. Full floorplans are available at their website www.yankeeonhigh.com. TRIAD Architects is locating their office on the second floor. And according to the update, there will be news to come about the ground floor retail space. Bareburger, a restaurant chain that specializes in gourmet organic burgers, will be the tenant. Bareburger started in Brooklyn in 2009 and has 12 locations in New York state. According to the article, Bareburger will open in five to six months. Another gourmet burger restaurant, Flip Side, originally committed for this retail space but backed out before construction began. High St. in 2011 for $900,000. For decades, the building housed the Yankee Trader store, a purveyor of party goods and novelty items. The organic burger restaurant Bareburger will occupy about 5,000 square feet of the first floor. Upon entering the door to the right of the Bareburger entrance on the ground floor, you encounter a stairwell pointing you upstairs to Denmark or downstairs to the Secret Cellar. According to the CU article, "The Secret Cellar can best be described as a cozy upscale convenience store featuring beer, wine and other beverages as well as locally sourced snacks, coffee and more" and "Up above on the second floor, Denmark looks out onto High Street with large floor-to-ceiling windows and a comfortable lounge environment". This is the building with the boarded-up windows located next the Yankee Trader Building that was recently renovated. After checking with the County Auditor's website, the Hyde Park restaurant group does own both of the three-story buildings shown in the above photo next to the Yankee Trader Building. Hopefully it won't be too long before Hyde Park moves on their concept for this location and restores these buildings.
