Thank you for the information.. ??

What's the point?

Cincinnati is an older city with far greater legacy services. From the title, I'm assuming that you are arguing that because Cincy spends the same amount of money as Indy for less than half the population and about 1/5th the land area, Cincy has a 'bloated bureaucracy and budget.'

You need to look at more than land area and population and examine the governmental system in Indy. Indy has Unigov, Cincy does not. Indy is a state capital, Cincy is not.

I'm not arguing with you regarding the budgets, though. In Cincy, the vast majority of that money goes to public safety, and our elected officials and many activists groups refuse to reduce police or fire at all.

City-County gov in Indy. Good luck getting that in Cincy. Too many entrenched inner city interests with too much to lose by "streamlining"

That has to be wrong. since it's running a 50 million dollar deficit. It would be easy to cut out 50 million if it was so. The Cincinnati budget is about $250 million a year.

So is there a plan to balance the budget?

Well- Indy is always republican, and the county is republican- the city-county government would nearly always be a republican government.  I think more so then i fear of "streamlining", is the fear of GOP rule indefinitely on the city.

Facts about budget:

"Under the budget the city would spend more than $1 billion next year, $340 million of that in the general fund for operating costs. That's the fund that had the nearly $60 million deficit, which was reduced to $54.7 million after more than $4 million in unexpected income tax revenue came in late in the year. (The other $660 million is for capital projects and "restricted" funds like water works and sewers.)" - Cincinnati.com

Also!!!! Cincinnati city budget runs WaterWorks.  In Indianapolis it's a separate company that privately runs the water treatment system in Indianapolis that does the whole county.  That's probably a large chunk of the budget- I'm sure there are countless other differences between the two city budgets.

What I fear is a city that:

1) Has no good ideas

2) Can't implement good ideas

Everyone should be a Charterite IMO
