February 6, 201114 yr I enjoyed! So Harrison will get its own NJT station? I guess it'll be right after Newark Broad Street if you're going towards the city, correct? Your threads and videos make me wish I explored that part of Jersey while I lived there.
February 6, 201114 yr Harrison is definitely improving over the past 10 years. That new PATH garage was nice! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
February 7, 201114 yr Replies> DJ Orion , yes it would be built near the I280 Interchange , were the Morristown line goes for 3 tracks to 2 tracks. That third track will be rebuilt to the Passaic River Bridge and the station will span form Warren Street to Harrison Ave. It would serve older Harrison , when the New Developments are completed they will be served by the PATH station which is being rebuilt form the ground up. This restored Morristown line station will make the trip to Hoboken or Midtown faster , although slightly more expensive. NJT 4.50$ vs 1.75$ PATH .... ColDayMan The Project should have been halfway done by now but the recession halted that , but its back on track....there doing it in 2 block phases... But by 2025 all the Warehouses in Harrison should be replaced by Luxury Housing , Retail space and Hotels.... It would become a New Hoboken... Newark is starting to do the same in the eastern ward , so this area will be interesting 10-15 years form now. natininja In what way , they have programs with the local schools and colleges use there stadium.... February 7, 201114 yr Harrison is looking really good these days. I'm highly impressed with the improvements the town is making. BTW, how is Irvington doing? I know that area usually always struggles heavily. Thanks for sharing too. I enjoyed the pics and video clips.
February 7, 201114 yr The stadium can seat 166% of the town's residents. It's like a tsunami hits on game days, and it's just out of proportion with the scale of the town (I don't mean the physical building). Given the dearth of retail near the stadium and PATH station, I know those people aren't spending money in the town. (Nor would they probably do so if there were retail -- it's typical of sports stadia.) Put it this way, there's a reason NYC doesn't just build its sports arenas in the city. (It's not for lack of space in or near Manhattan, considering the willingness to build all the way out in Harrison.) Unlike the Meadowlands, where no one really lives, this soccer stadium has an adverse affect on what is a nice town. They get all the hassle and none of the benefit of housing the Red Bulls (aside from some use of the arena). Change the name to the Harrison Red Bulls and I will change my mind. It's yet another instance of NYC dumping its crap in NJ. Honestly, I'd rather see a mall like in Newport than the soccer arena.
February 7, 201114 yr Question: Does the Newark Light Rail and Subway link up with the Hudson-Bergen Light rail?
February 7, 201114 yr ^ No. You could make connections via PATH or NJ Transit, though. But the cost and travel times start to get kinda crazy, of course.
February 8, 201114 yr Well the Hudson-Bergen LR is NJT. I was just curious if there was a direct connection. That would great if there was.
February 8, 201114 yr Yeah, it's all NJT...I meant a regular train (or I guess you could take a bus too). Sorry. I believe a connection is planned, but my guess is it's over a decade in the future. Nexis4Jersey could tell you more, I'm sure.
February 8, 201114 yr Replies > HHS78 , Yup every part of Urban Jersey is seeing a redevelopment of there older Industrial areas... Irvington is still in the pits , however the Oranges are coming back ever so slowly.... Not like Harrison , but more like a cleaned up Downtown and restored apartments. All the Railway towns are doing better then the non Railway towns... natininja, Half the people going to the games afterwards go to The Ironbound section of Newark which right across the Passaic River Bridge. Half of the games attendance is form the Spanish / Portuguese section of Newark..... Theres no room in the outer boroughs to build a staduim like this , so of course its in NJ , however the team should be called the "Newark" or "Harrison" Red Bulls. But the same is happening in Chester,PA at there new arena.... As for the LRT system.... There is a proposal gaining traction to use the Old NS Boonton line for Light Rail proposes. It would run form Hoboken to Journal SQ , then along the Old Boonton line through the Meadowlands to Kearny , Belleville and North Newark connecting into the Newark Light Rail. 95% of the Route would use old ROW , the Jersey City part would serve a dense part of Journal SQ which is being redeveloped into the Next Midtown Manhattan. The Meadowlands part would have a stop at Laurel Hill State Park and there would be 2 stops in Kearny and Belleville. Another line would run form Newark to Paterson along some old ROW and intersect in Belleville the Old Boonton line.... The Old Boonton line is gaining traction due to the fact that the PATH is over capacity and theres not much you can do about it.... Theres also a plan to build a streetcar form Newark Penn station to Harrison and Kearny. So there is alot planned and in proposal..... Harrison.....last Thursday.... February 8, 201114 yr Theres also a plan to build a streetcar form Newark Penn station to Harrison and Kearny. I've always thought there should be a streetcar through the Ironbound. Actually, better would be an extension of the subway for a few stops past Penn Station, but I know that's asking too much.
February 9, 201114 yr Change the name to the Harrison Red Bulls and I will change my mind. It's yet another instance of NYC dumping its crap in NJ. You may get your wish once the new york cosmos come back. Although I can't see the team being called the Harrison Red Bulls I can see the New Jersey Red Bulls. Thanks For the pics by the way Nexis!
February 9, 201114 yr Replies> natininja , Its a great idea , but Money and Terrain will be a major hurdle. The Tunnel would have to dip very deep under the Passaic River and probably be cut and cover in the Ironbound. The Current plan is to rip up the Street and put tracks in and build a new Bridge for the Streetcar across the Passaic... BUCKEYE54 , Ive heard that rumor.....don't know what to make of it. I know once the Nets leave we might get a new team.... I think i might do Rahway or White Plains next....
February 12, 201114 yr very nice work and cool to see and hear about, particularly re the impact of the red bulls, i wondered about that. i come out here 3-4 times a year by car/path train and always see something going on and signs of redevelopment.
February 12, 201114 yr Nexis4Jersey, I am really enjoying your threads. These are an excellent collection of photos. Keep the photos coming!
