Looks like it's a little bit past its prime. The clock is the nicest thing there.

Heh.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

The entire lower level has been flooded out many times in its past, hence why it seems so... derelict. Go a few streets up and it's like you're in a different town.

I'll take Manchester, Michigan

Good thing that building in the first picture is up on blocks.  You would not want any flooding to damage it.

Interesting Kentuckyesque small town.

Dead, dead, dead. Too bad about the zombie plague and the exclusion zone around this town.

There is a closed school in Manchester. I went up to photograph the exterior and found an open door. mmmm? Can I walk in? So I did, and sat my tripod down in a bend in the hallway, but I noticed a gray cable strung all over the ceiling. Looked up, saw a motion sensor. I backed out and walked around and noticed motion sensors in EVERY classroom and room viewed from the exterior, with cables strung all over the place and through the exterior walls.

So I called the mayor - city owned the property and directed me to her.

"Why would you want to photograph this school? It's ugly!"

It's in fantastic shape, and has only been closed for a year and is quite beautiful.

So I explained why and she retorted with the same stupid comment, to which I ended with: "Yeah, like your town is anything worth looking at. Have you seen your downtown? Most of it is abandoned!"

So cut a cable and then watch from an unobtrusive location for a while, and see if anybody shows up.

I'm tempted to at times. It's gorgeous and well preserved, although the addition isn't anything to write home about. I need to dig up the exteriors - great brick work!

Yes, I love the brickwork and the fact that it is in such good shape. I can't believe we abandoned places like that every year.

That's just the "free market" at work (cross posted thought, from your comment in the Casino thread.)  :-P

Locals who grow up and live around things never appreciate them. It probably boils down to that. I saw that attitude in Dayton and it's quite apparent with the reaction you got from the mayor.

the music that has come out of that town is amazing and they have quite a popular soccer team.
