Okay, so I just signed a lease on an apartment conveniently located on Hollister right next to the Kroger.  I did this because I do not want to own a car in Cincy.  I didn't fully think this through because apparently that Kroger will be closing in May to rebuild...AND Keller's IGA is out of commission.

So...

all of my car-driving friends keep telling me to go to the Kroger on Clifton and Spring Grove but there's no bus route that goes there.

Right now I'm looking at OTR and Peebles Corner(s?) for Krogers and of course Findlay Market.

I'd prefer to just go to Findlay Market, but then I don't know where to get toiletries etc.  I'm also going to be poor, so I have the feeling I'm going to prefer prices at Kroger, but the OTR store looks very small.  Do they have produce at all?

As for Peebles Corners, I'm not sure how I'll feel about waiting at a bus stop to get back.

Am I missing anywhere?  Does anybody else live up there and have thoughts on this?

As for toiletries, CVS is right there on the corner, so you could do grocery shopping at Findlay and get the other stuff at CVS.

There is the natural foods store on mcmillan and west clifton. you can get lots of stuff there (including toiletries.. maybe) and the prices arent that outrageous. there IS stop n go.. if you can brave it.

i live on campus without a car and do tons of shopping with people who DO have a car.. i just hop along for the ride when they go.

I know it's not useful now, but considering the closing of Keller's, I think Northside has surpassed Clifton in the most-livable-neighborhood category. As a cyclist, this is especially true. You have a flat trip to the Kroger at Clifton & Spring Grove, a flat trip to Findlay Market, a fairly easy trip up Ludlow to Clifton, there's a vegan grocery right in Northside's business district...and on. Plus, bus service is good.

I recommend getting a folding bicycle. You don't have to worry about the racks on buses being full, and it will easily fit in the trunk of a friend's car, the convenience of which cannot be overstated. Check out Resor bike shop in Newport; they stock Dahon folders.
