Horse track plan may bring 1,500 jobs to Dayton

 

Penn National Gaming Inc. is looking to transform a former Delphi plant in north Dayton into a $200 million horsetrack and slot machine complex.

 

...relocating Beulah Park horse track in Columbus to the old Delphi facility at Needmore and Wagner Ford roads in Dayton.  Penn's complex would include a one-mile horse track, sports bar, restaurants, and large slot machine area.

Politicians support horse track plan

 

Dayton-area government officials are throwing their support behind a new $200 million horse track and slot machine comlpex proposal for Dayton.

 

"I'd rather it happen than not happen," said Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell, who offered to lobby for the project, if necessary, for it to clear any future hurdles. "My attitude has always been if Ohio is to have gambling, why should Dayton be excluded? If this comes to fruition, we're no longer excluded from the equation."

That's actually a good place for that since its near the Dixie Strip, so already sort of "player" esque.

 

Dayton $200M racino project moving forward

 

 

Penn National Gaming Inc. has officially asked the state for permission to build a casino and horse race track in Dayton and looks to break ground this fall on the facility that is expected to create 1,000 jobs locally.

 

On Monday, Penn National announced it has filed licenses with the Ohio Lottery Commission for Video Lottery Sales Agent for its Ohio racetracks, and with the Ohio State Racing Commission for permission to relocate the racetracks from Columbus and Toledo to Austintown and Dayton, respectively.

New Dayton ‘racino’ seeks local subcontractors

 

 

Dayton-area companies looking for subcontractor work on the Hollywood Dayton Raceway project will soon get a good look at bidding opportunities.

 

Penn National Gaming and Turner Construction Co., which was chosen as the construction manager for the project, will hold a community outreach event on Nov. 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza Hotel on Wagner Ford Road in Dayton. The event is geared toward local companies including minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses.

Dayton racino to ‘top out’ Thursday

 

A ceremony will mark the ‘topping out’ of Dayton’s newest racino Thursday.

 

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway will hold a ceremony to mark the final beam of structural steel being placed on the structure of the $125 million racino at 4701 Wagner Ford Road. Officials from owner Penn National Gaming will be on hand to oversee the ceremony.

 

Penn spokesperson Bob Tenenbaum said the racino construction is on schedule, and that construction crews are rushing to complete the roof on the building, which will allow interior work to continue through the winter. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2014.

My opinion is the Dayton Raceway and Racino it just too close to the relocated Lebanon Raceway (Miami Valley Gaming) located down I-75 at the Monroe exit. These people are just going to be cutting each other's throats.

You DO realize that the Horseshoe in Cincinnati is closer to Miami Valley Gaming than Hollywood Dayton, correct?  If anything, it'll hurt Horseshoe by your logic.

Horseshoe Casino is a much different type of operation, not just video slots which is pretty much all that will be at the two racinos.

 

It will be interesting so see how the replacement for River Downs (Belterra Park) holds up also against the Horseshoe.

Most of the people visiting casinos in Ohio will play slots.  The table minimums are a bit steep for "working-class folks" in this state.  Thus, Horseshoe, Miami Valley, Hollywood Indiana/Ohio, Belterra Downs, all are the same.

All three racinos have a huge amount of shell space reserved for expansion.  I assume they are just waiting for table game approval, similar to how Indiana slowly removed all barriers to full time gambling over the years.  Remember when you could only board the Argosy every two hours?

Yeah, that was nuts.  I agree it's probably for future expansion to table games.

Americans sure are creative in finding ways to attempt to curb people's vices.

I hope the roads get widened. Nearby Huber Heights is already clogged as it is. We're getting a "Heights" development (shopping, music center, etc) and this combined with the Racino is gonna be a gridlock issue.

^actually wouldn't think that to be the case, as the site formerly housed a Delphi plant which employed about 1,000 people. The area has the infrastructure in place to support the development, and seems like a very logical choice.

 

Overall, I am very happy this will be built. It is good adaptive re-use of the site, and hopefully will draw in traffic to the Ramada Plaza at Wagoner Ford as well as provide a reason to re-develop the Dayton Grand hotel site (now in severe need of demolishing) at Needmore. I also think there will be a good local/ regional clientele base to support it - probably won't be the same people visiting the downtown casinos.

That would be the Dayton Executive Hotel that needs to be demolished, the Dayton Grand Hotel  is downtown and now has a reputable new owner from what I hear.

 

There will be some widening for turn lanes, and of course two traffic signals.

 

I agree, nice to see development on a brownfield site rather than a cornfield...it is also a good use in one of the region's wellfield areas.

The Hollywood racino in Dayton will open Aug. 28, pending regulatory approvals, developers said Monday.

 

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, built for $250 million, will have 1,000 video slot machines and a 5/8th-mile all-weather harness racetrack. Racing will begin Oct. 3. The new facility will employ 500.

 

The adjacent racetrack grandstand includes more than 1,000 enclosed seats and a simulcast theater that will allow race fans to wager on races at tracks throughout North America. Once its doors open on Aug. 28th, Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway will be open 24 hours a day,

seven days a week.

The new racino opening north of town is very much a work in progress.

 

Hundreds of staff and contractors are rushing to complete Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway ahead of its opening this week. The facility, a $250 million investment from operator Penn National Gaming, features 1,000 video lottery terminals, a 5/8ths-mile racetrack for harness racing, and plenty of neon lights and red carpet to match its Hollywood theme.
