Posted February 10, 201114 yr So i went to Downtown White Plains,NY back in November and took a bunch of photos....I also took a MNRR Harlem video on the way back through Westchester County , The Bronx and Manhattan. I was last in White Plains back in the Summer of 08 and must say it has changed , there are less parking lots and more buildings. On warmer days the city is usually more crowded , the day i went it was abit chilly. For a City of 58,000+ it sure has alot of Diversity in the architectural and cultural dept. The City has 2 Train stations ,and busy regional airport nearby. A New East - West Railway will cut through the heart of Downtown all stations will be underground. The city has 2 Parkways and 2 Interstates , and numerous busy roads. By 2020 all the surface parking lots should be developed on with either High Rises or low rise retail / apartments. The City has Numerous parks and is planning a bike lane system... 1. DSC01479 by Nexis4Jersey09, on Flickr 2. DSC01478 by Nexis4Jersey09, on Flickr 3. DSC01482 by Nexis4Jersey09, on Flickr 4. February 11, 201114 yr Got a friend who lives here, but I haven't been there in awhile. Oddly, it's always reminded me of parts of Chicago's south loop. Great set!
February 12, 201114 yr very good -- i was thinking of doing hudson river/white plains/stamford, etc. suburban office hub threads at some point myself, but never got around to it.

February 13, 201114 yr Its a weird city like a crossbreed of a suburb / city... yeah it sure is! i think people on this ohio forum are more familiar with the suburban officepark stuff being located out on the outer loop, meaning strung out along the suburban highways. the way they do it around the nyc metro is to put that stuff into suburban officepark towns. i dk why, i suppose zoning, transit and topography play their parts, its just a bit of a different style for that crap. the good thing about it is, as you can see so well in your photos, the normal old village is mostly still there around the bland office buildings. also, there are a few recent TOD efforts ya gotta applaud.
February 13, 201114 yr Ive noticed a TOD explosion along every line and in every town. Sprawly downtowns are disappearing as Dense 2 Story apartments are built..... There isn't a sprawly town along my line anymore and this was all done over the past 10 years. In this picture of WP ive found , you can see WP and New Rochelle in the distance. NR is doing what WP did... HPN - White Plains looking a little brown by TerminalMan, on Flickr
February 14, 201114 yr Wow, I haven't seen a famous famiglia in ages. There was one in Ann Arbor, MI but was underperforming and eventually replaced.
February 15, 201114 yr I've passed White Plains numerous times, but I have never taken the time to actually explore the city. I'm going to be back out that way in June. I'll be sure to check out the progess WP is making. It has always struck me as an interesting city, especially considering how small it is. Thanks for sharing the pics BTW.
February 15, 201114 yr Replies.... NorthAndre : We have at least 40 of them in the NYC Region... GCrites80s : It does to a certain extent although it is very tiny... HHS78 : Its hidden form the Highways , except the Bronx River Parkway , its a unique city. I usually go hiking in Northern Westchester County , then go eat and shop in White Plains. Robert Pence : This is NY state though , not NJ. But WP is similar to New Brunswick,
March 16, 201114 yr White Plains looks pretty good to me. The fact it has a downtown rail station for convenient access right into the heart of Manhattan is even better!
