February 26, 201114 yr A beautiful city. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
February 26, 201114 yr Every time I see pics of working class housing in east coast cities, I can only think about all the money those aluminum and vinyl salespeople made. It really makes those row homes look dumpy. Philly should start a campaign that goes something like..."Show us you brackets!" maybe offer a break o their prop taxes if they expose the original facades. Look how much better the homes with their cornice showing appear to be.
February 26, 201114 yr Definitely Philadelphia-esque! Great pictures! BTW, for the best cheesesteaks, I'd recommend "Talk to the Town", just north of the sports complex. ;)
February 27, 201114 yr Every time I see pics of working class housing in east coast cities, I can only think about all the money those aluminum and vinyl salespeople made. Look how much better the homes with their cornice showing appear to be. who wouldn't agree, but of course slapping up aluminum/vinyl siding was in style back in the day and it still is cheaper than repairs to the building and cornices. so it comes down to that. i'd be all for tax breaks to improve the historic appearance of any old buildings - you'd never see that siding crap again if the tax deal was attractive enough! unfortunately these kind of repairs only seem to be done in gentrified neighborhoods. all the poor philly nabes get are murals and even the collapsed buildings are often just left to stand and rot and not even cleared away. what can we all do except keep moving back in and reinvesting in our cities, right?
February 27, 201114 yr Thank you for the tour of this east-coast gem! What else can I say about such a city that hasn't already been said? (large, cosmopolitan, cultured, and beautiful -- that's Philly!)
February 28, 201114 yr Great pics... I lived in Philadelphia in 2002-2004, and there's a lot of things I love about that city. If/when I ever get chased out of Cincinnati by an angry mob, there's a decent chance I'd move back to Philly.
