i LOVE put in bay - it's such a great place to get that feeling that you "got away" for a bit.

The Lake Erie Islands are by far the best tourism spots Ohio has to offer. I recommend them to all people from out of state looking to see the best of the best, and get drunk.

The place needs a Mackinac Makeover, real quick.

I thought it was getting pretty touristy-tacky twenty-five years ago, but Oh, Lord! Those golf carts! The sight makes me shudder! :-o

Right? Looks like a cool place, but compared to the Northern Michigan lake towns, it's lacking a little.

Why so many golf carts and so few bikes?  Or are the photos misleading.

It's as if St. Ignace had "relations" with Pigeon Forge.  That whole Erie Islands region needs a TOTAL makeover, starting with that peninsula with the safari park.

There are many bikers as well, but not enough bike lanes for my liking. The main road connecting the dock/airport with the town center does not have bike lanes, but does have decently heavy traffic.

yeah i agree the island area definately needs a makeover, it's looking pretty tired and lackadasical, esp when you compare it to the michigan mitt attractions and think about it's true potential. time to up the game around there!

Since the tower was closed and you couldn't go to the top, here's a photo from 1986. They were raising funds then to repair it:

^Great stuff, Robert. It looks like there used to a be a water tower and another building in the park.

  • 10 years later...

Hard to believe this thread was dormant for 10 years.

I know. There is a thread for Sandusky/Lake Erie Islands which has more recent comments, but I figured this one was more appropriate.
