^Drove by there this past weekend just to check it out.  The Clifton Shoppes are coming along quite nicely.  It will be a nice addition to such a great neighborhood (easily one of my faves)... For all its greatness, Edgewater gets very little booserism from Positively Cleveland and other groups as compared to places like Tremont, downtown and Ohio City.  Wonder why that is?

Lack of dining options.

Doesn't need the help.  It's still in better shape than any of the hotspots. And half the neighborhood is in Lakewood so neither side feels responsible to promote it alone.

I'm just talking about Edgewater, which is entirely in Cleveland.  The Lakewood areas are nice and I realize the Shoppes themselves literally sit across the street from Lakewood, but Edgewater, including the Detroit corridor (from W. 110 to W. 117), is attractive in its own right (although I realize there's some blight around Detroit).

Finally! There's visible progress on the new location for the Clifton Diner, at Hird & Clifton in Lakewood. Their old location is due to open any day now as The Landmark Deli.

Construction of Shoppes on Clifton makes major progress toward opening in April

Paul Kiska

CLEVELAND - Noise from a major construction project is the sound of progress for the Shoppes on Clifton.

Renderings show plans for a Lucky's grocery store on the corner of West 117 and Clifton Avenue on Cleveland's border with Lakewood.

The plans also include shopping, a restaurant and salons. Construction for townhouses is also scheduled to start this spring.

I stopped in Papa Nicks a few days ago--that appears to be the loading dock and back-of-house.  Hopefully they have a tasteful mural commissioned....

Never saw that ^ and I'm not sure how that fact eluded us, the tastemakers of NEO. It's disconcerting that's even allowable in 2017.

Unfortunately they probably demanded a loading dock.  Not sure how they could have laid the site out any better to avoid this blank wall.

Architecturally, I think the peaked roof at the former Giant Eagle is very unique and worth preserving. I would bet anyone on this board (limit 3 people) one local draft beer that any new construction will have lesser street/sidewalk presence than the current setup.

Nobody wanted to bet me.

Strange, the place looked pretty good imho.

Here's hoping Scalish just keeps moving west right along Detroit. That's one shabby stretch of road.

I've seen worse.  The new townhouses look great.

Ha!

I didn't like the new townhomes on paper but they look much better in person.  I'm glad to see the new development in Lakewood.

Signs are starting to appear on the new Clifton Shoppes development at Clifton Blvd and West 117th Street in Cleveland.

I was with my wife yesterday while she was getting a manicure at the new nail salon at Clifton Shoppes -- the first tenant to open in the retail development at Clifton and West 117th. While there, there was a group of suits being toured around the development. One of the suits came into the nail salon and asked the manager about his experiences with the development. I could hear that the suit was with a wireless company. I was hoping it wasn't one of the those cheap, ghetto-like retailers. After the suit left, I asked the manager what company he was with. He said "Sprint Wireless."

BTW, the nail salon is top notch. Its interior design is definitely not cheap and has a lot of attention to detail. It has lots of brand new, high-technology equipment for treating, cleaning, drying and decorating. And the management and staff is all Vietnamese, which according to my wife is a real attraction for her among salons/spas.

There are four retail spaces in addition to the anchor -- a 22,650 SF Lucky’s Market. The lights are on inside Chipotle at the corner unit at West 117th-Clifton, and looks to be days away from opening. One of the other tenants is Best Cuts, just to the east of the nail salon. But I thought Fusian sushi was coming in to the corner unit on the breezeway, but there are only four retail spaces. With the suits getting a look at the retail space on the breezeway, that means Fusian won't be coming.

Three of five businesses (Chipotle, Pro Nails Spa, and Great Clips) are now open at The Shoppes On Clifton. And the electricity is on inside Lucky's organic grocery store. They are due to open by May. Behind the retail strip, fencing is up around Brickhaus' One-Seventeen townhouse development, where the Fifth Church of Christ Scientist stood. Construction is about to begin on 11 townhomes selling for $439,000 and up. Three have already sold. More: http://www.brickhauspartners.com/communities/one-seventeen/

Lucky's is awesome! I shop there at least once a week. Those townhouses look very nice as well.

Now we're making real progress on the new Clifton Diner at Clifton and Hird in Lakewood. Looks like it will also include an ADA ramp in back and a facade rehab of this 1965-built building.

Lucky's at W. 117th and Clifton opening set for May 16th.

Lucky's Market sets May 16 for its Cleveland debut

May 16 is the opening date for the latest grocer to enter the Cleveland market.

Lucky's Market, a natural foods grocery chain based in Boulder, Colo., announced its first Cleveland store will open on that data in the new Shoppes on Clifton, at 11620 Clifton Blvd. in the Edgewater neighborhood of Cleveland. It will be the second Lucky's in Ohio, following a store in Columbus.

In a news release, the grocer said it will stage a "bacon-cutting ceremony" at 10 a.m. on May 16 and will present a total of more than $10,000 in grants to support three local nonprofits: The Refugee Response, to fund the purchase and installation of a cold storage unit and a starthouse heater for the Ohio City Farm to help increase sales and reduce waste; Girls with Sole to support costs of transportation, materials, healthy food and fitness equipment for Camp Power; and University Settlement to support nutrition programming and to provide daily meals for clients in the Adult Wellness Program.

Coming along. But that blank wall along West 116th really gets to me....

Yesterday the Landmark Deli opened at Clifton/West 117th, but it was a soft opening -- only for dinner this week. They will also have breakfast and lunch. It's in the space of the old Clifton Diner that is opening a block west in Lakewood. But this place serves beer and cocktails and you order from the counter, with the food brought to your table British pub style. It's Ohio's first restaurant w/ a wood-fired broiler, the permitting for which was the source of delay in opening.

The new Chipotle on Clifton at West 117th in Cleveland is very busy. This is the waiting-to-order line from Sunday evening. Employees say its been like this since it opened a few weeks ago. FYI: the CVS across the street & the Take 5 oil change on W117th are their highest revenue stores in Cuyahoga County. Lots of population nearby

^ I wonder how this Chipotle is affecting the Lakewood location.

^ I wonder how this Chipotle is affecting the Lakewood location.

Hopefully not the same way the University Circle location affected the [former] Coventry location.

^ That Chipotle put Que Tal out of business.  What a shame.

^ I wonder how this Chipotle is affecting the Lakewood location.

Last time I was in the Lakewood Chipotle it almost queued out the door at 8pm.

New Lucky's organic grocery store signs are up and is 10 days away from its grand opening on Clifton at West 117th in Cleveland.

^I like that Lucky's sign on the roof.  Old school.

Its been awesome to watch this get built!  Great addition to this area.  I live right down the street and am looking forward to walking to Lucky's for my vegetables when im lazy and dont go to the westside market.  Once the Townhomes start going up ill get pictures as well!

Although it had its soft opening on Monday, today Lucky's organic grocery store officially opened on Clifton at West 117th -- on the CLEVELAND side. There seems to be some confusion as which side of West 117th Street this is. By the way, the lake-induced fog was making their high-flying balloons difficult to see sometimes!

A lot of people (east siders) think that Lakewood starts at the end of the West Shoreway.,

A lot of east siders would never set foot on the west side if the airport wasn't there.

Welcome to Lucky's natural foods grocery store grand opening! I think it will be a great success in this neighborhood. My wife already likes it! And it has visibly increased the pedestrian, bicycle, transit and car traffic at The Edge....

Wow, that got busy fast. I understand that a new store draws patrons, but lots of shoppers there (for grocery). Good to see.
