Loud as hell on the takeoff.  This 747 is definitely the loudest jet that I have heard take off at CVG.

Southwest already has boosted its new CVG-Nashville flight

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Jun 4, 2024

Southwest Airlines has launched its new flight from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to booming Nashville and already increased its frequency.

Originally, when announced in April, Southwest only planned to run the service five times per week on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But with the launch Tuesday, June 4, the flight is running seven days per week.

CVG has not had nonstop service to Nashville since Delta Air Lines cut its flights in there in 2018.

CVG airport could see record passenger numbers this summer

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Jun 14, 2024

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has more seats available on flights this summer than at any time in the past decade, underscoring the full recovery the airline industry has made in terms of leisure travel since the pandemic.

“Those are the biggest numbers we’ve seen in the last 10 years,” Bobby Spann, the airport’s vice president for air service development, said. “We expect this summer to be gangbusters … based on the capacity that’s coming through the airport.”

CVG has 57 nonstop destinations on peak days, the highest it has seen since 2018-19.

MORE

Saw a story in the Business Courier that the CVG-Paris flight is up to daily during the summer instead of 3x per week.

May passenger & cargo numbers are in for CVG:

May

2023: 762,541

2024: 858,713

Variance: +12.61%

YTD

2023: 3,300,755

2024: 3,625,960

Variance: +9.85%

Cargo (Tons)

2023: 838,985

2024: 787,953

Variance: -6.08%

May was an excellent month for the airport. It definitely feels like we're starting to see the results of the increase in available seat miles.

Cargo continues to lag 2023, but I think that's expected. Macroeconomic factors are likely weighing on the cargo sector. I don't have other major airports' cargo stats at my fingertips, but I would expect this to be reflected across the industry.

CVG airport approves environmental study for its Hangar Row vision

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Jul 10, 2024

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has awarded a contract to do an environmental assessment of its planned, job-creating Hangar Row development.

Hangar Row’s goal is to develop an ecosystem of businesses dedicated to maintaining and upgrading aircraft, a key part of CVG CEO Candace McGraw’s vision of the airport being an economic development engine in addition to a transportation asset.

Hangar Row aims to increase the airport’s value to carriers and make CVG a central location for services they need. If it can accomplish that, the airport believes it will attract additional passenger and cargo carriers. Such services could be a tipping point for a passenger airline to add more nonstop destinations or even create a base of operations at CVG, which means more flights and options for regional travelers.

Southwest makes deep cuts to some routes at CVG, boosts others

Southwest Airlines has cut the number of flights it has from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport by about 12%, and has made particularly deep reductions to its CVG-Chicago route, according to a Business Courier analysis of flight data from Cirium.

Southwest has slashed the route to Chicago's Midway International Airport by 43% in terms of seats and 44% when measured in total number of flights. It also has cut the number of flights going to Baltimore-Washington International Airport by 24%.

Meanwhile, Southwest increased its flight count to Denver by 64% and Orlando by 261%. The service to the home of Disney World is now daily. Southwest also has added daily service to Nashville, which started June 4.

“That’s going to help Southwest's performance overall at CVG,” said Bobby Spann, the airport’s vice president for air services development. “The flight is doing extremely well.”

The Trump/Vance plane was at CVG last weekend, and I assume that it will be there quite a bit until November since Vance is based in Cincinnati.  But if they had chosen a smaller plane they could have used Lunken, which is more convenient to Vance's house.

0-7_nzN24BFnjJf2SYrNKF3eCP.jpg?width=960

Dumb question but does he now need a motorcade every time he goes home? Can they NOT take the Brent Spence Bridge and take a helicopter or as you said fly into Lunken or something because that's going to be a huge pain in the ass if we have a secrete service motorcade every week or so for the next 4 months.

Not only that -- possible fake motorcades. I used to work two blocks from the White House and fake motorcades drove by all the time in order to throw off would-be attackers.

Trump and Biden have flown into Lunken on a few occasions. I'd imagine it would be easier to fly into there.

Lunken has handled the presidential 757 and I personally have flown in and out of Lunken on a 737 charter.

CVG airport hits new all-time record for passengers

CORRIE SCHAFFELD | CBC

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Jul 24, 2024

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has hit a new all-time passenger record, the first time that’s happened since before the Covid-19 pandemic.

In June, 461,555 passengers came through CVG’s front door, the most in any single month since 2019.

The year 2019 was an "all-time high” overall for passengers, said Bobby Spann, the airport’s vice president for air service development. That year, 4.3 million passengers flew from CVG.

While CVG has lost daily service to some business-focused markets, such as St. Louis and Kansas City, more passengers than ever – 72% – are flying nonstop to their destinations without having to connect through another city.

CVG has 57 nonstop destinations on peak days, the highest it has seen since 2018-19.

CVG airport's fares among nation's lowest since the pandemic

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport’s average annual fare has fallen since 2019, with the airport consistently being one of the cheapest ones to fly from in the United States, according to data from the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

CVG’s ranking among the top 100 U.S. airports (excluding Hawaii and Puerto Rico) puts it as the third most-affordable airport to fly from in the Midwest, with the exception of Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport and Chicago-Midway International Airport, which is dominated by low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines.

CVG’s overall average fare fell by more than $28 between 2019 and 2023 when the figures are adjusted for inflation.

$100M industrial project on CVG airport land gets a funding boost

A planned $100 million industrial project on 270 acres of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport land has received a $2 million grant, which will help build out the infrastructure needed for development.

CVG’s Site 7, west of its runway and North Bend Road in Hebron, has been a concept going back to 2019 when the airport approved a development agreement with the Paul Hemmer Co. Hemmer’s investment is estimated to be $100 million, with up to 2.5 million square feet of space, Adam Hemmer, president of Hemmer’s Roebling Development Co., told the Business Courier.

It's the same site as one being marketed as Airpark Logistics 237 by BE NKY Growth Partnership, the private economic development agency for Northern Kentucky.

Man, what's behind the decrease in cargo?

The decrease in air freight is an industry-wide problem this year, not a CVG specific one. From what I understand, the normal routes for supply chains (shipping, railroads, and regular trucking) have rebounded from the COVID craziness. Companies with urgent shipping needs back in 2022/2023 had turned to the much more expensive air cargo method, otherwise they were experiencing massive delays. Now that supply chains have smoothed out, this is just a reversion to the baseline.

Honestly surprised it didn't come sooner considering the amount of Tri-State residents live in and around the Sarasota-  Long Boat Key Area. I can see a number of people taking this to avoid the flight into TPA or PIE and then driving across the bay south.

Also talk about crazy Frontier deciding on bases at CVG and CLE. CVG keeps getting new flights and CLE keeps losing them. I guess Akron is enough competition to hurt traffic at CLE..

Delta Air Lines Will Cut Flights Between Cincinnati & Denver Next Month

Delta Air Lines is planning to cut flights between Cincinnati (CVG) and Denver (DEN) beginning October 30, 2024. The news comes as the airline aims to "better align capacity with demand."

In a statement to Simple Flying, Delta's spokesperson said that they will be reallocating aircraft to expand the Cincinnati (CVG) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) route to twice daily.

So they are going to be moving the aircraft to the FLL flight instead of Denver?  Probably not that surprising--Denver is one of the places with a lot of options from CVG.

Yeah, they're reallocating the aircraft and crew capacity.

DAL generally flies a 737-800 to DEN & FLL so it'll be similar hard product. Those are also the oldest 737s in the fleet with the legacy F product, which is fine on a tourist heavy route like CVG-FLL, but compares poorly to UAL's mainline routes on either the 737Max or A320 into DEN

CVG airport’s first project for its new global logistics park begins

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Sep 27, 2024

The first project for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky’s new global logistics park has started, a $12 million, 80,000-square-foot cargo warehouse facility by F&F LLC.

CVG’s global logistics park initiative, formerly referred to as North Cargo, hopes to create space where companies can ship large parcels – high-value goods that are time sensitive, such as entire automobiles or large pallets of pharmaceuticals.

While the airport is known for hosting the North American superhubs for both DHL and Amazon.com, it doesn’t draw very much business from smaller general freight shippers and hopes to diversify its business lines and capitalize on its logistics successes.
