Yes, the new lounge in A is going to be in the old Crown Room. It is mentioned in the Business Courier article.

Frontier Airlines axes multiple nonstop flights from CVG airport

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Dec 17, 2024

Updated Dec 17, 2024 2:53pm EST

Frontier Airlines has cut seven nonstop destinations at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for the time being, including five that it launched with much fanfare as a part of a major expansion at CVG.

By January 2025, Frontier will no longer fly from CVG to Boston; Charlotte, N.C.; Philadelphia; Minneapolis; Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport; Raleigh-Durham; and New York’s LaGuardia International Airport, large markets in which it hoped to make inroads.

CVG said it believes Frontier's moves are about passenger demand. The airline will serve 14 destinations, with increasing capacity to Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, Phoenix, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, Palm Beach and Cancun.

Frontier says CVG airport routes to Boston, Houston will be back

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Dec 23, 2024

Frontier Airlines plans to bring back two of the seven nonstop destinations it has cut from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for the first four months of 2025, saying flights to those two cities represent a seasonal suspension.

Frontier Airlines will reestablish service from CVG to Boston and Houston sometime next year.

The future of five other routes to New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, N.C., are more up in the air, according to a Frontier spokeswoman.

CVG airport sets new all-time passenger record

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Jan 27, 2025

More passengers came through the front doors of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2024 than at any other time in its history.

About 9.2 million people came through the airport last year, a 5.7% increase from the 8.7 million logged in 2023. It’s also more than CVG’s all-time high of 9.1 million in 2019, the year before the pandemic started.

“2024 was another positive year for air service at CVG,” said Kevin Canafax, a CVG board member and vice president for public affairs at Fidelity Investments.

The number of people coming through CVG’s front door also exceeds the volume seen during the days in which CVG had a hub from Delta Air Lines, said Bobby Spann, CVG’s vice president for air service development.

I never flew through CVG during its Delta hub era, but it's weird to think that the airport handles more passengers today. Especially considering that there would have been more Delta passengers connecting through CVG back then, and we have now added more arriving/departing passengers than connecting passengers we lost.

I think they are referring to O&D traffic when they say it is the most that have used the airport. Total traffic in the hub days exceeded 22M per year.

Ah ok, that makes sense. The article didn't exactly make that clear.

Delta and Comair exceeded over 550 daily flights at their peak.I believe Delta has around 75 daily flights today. Also had 3 terminals.

On the topic of CVG annual traffic, they finally released the monthly breakdowns from October-December. I'll show Oct-Dec as 2024 only with variance to LY in addition to the full 2024 vs. 2023 passenger totals.

October

2024: 800,531

Variance: -2.38%

November

2024: 693,509

Variance: -5.37%

December

2024: 730,158

Variance: +2.17%

YTD

2023: 8,738,239

2024: 9,212,348

Variance: +5.43%

YTD Cargo (Tons)

2023: 2,095,117

2024: 1,869,694

Variance: -10.76%

A great year for CVG as a whole.

I don't have insider information, but I'd guess some economic softening (inflation, jobs, interest rates etc.) in Q4 drove these passenger numbers down. I'm curious to see overall travel trends in Q4, but it will take some time for all that data to surface.

I'd expect Q1 to also be pretty slow. We've had some brutal weather in January, and the economy is arguably treading water. Not to get political, but if corporate tax rates and interest rates drop this year, expect these macroeconomic trends to pick up as companies hire more aggressively. That lift would undoubtedly affect travel.

I noticed something similar in the CMH numbers that were released here: https://flycolumbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Dec-2024-Monthly-Stats-Report.pdf

Most months this past year, we (CMH) were up around 8% to LY, but randomly in October and November numbers fell in line with last year. October was only up 2.1% and November was down .8%. Numbers rebounded in December though, finishing up 8.2% to LY. The dips weren't as low as CVG, but it's interesting that both suddenly trended downward at the same time.

Regardless, it's great to see steady passenger growth in the 3Cs!

CVG airport plans $30 million project, second phase of its car rental facilities overhaul

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Feb 10, 2025

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has begun planning the second, $30 million phase of the overhaul of its rental car facilities.

The second phase will construct a new rental car maintenance facility to replace one built in the 1970s. It has signed Houston-based Pierce Goodwin Alexander & Linville to start designing the facility. CVG awarded the $720,000 contract in January.

“We’d like to get the design done … so we can take it out to bid,” CVG CEO Candace McGraw said.

Delta Air Lines inks hangar lease extension at CVG airport, will invest millions

By Chris Wetterich – Staff reporter and columnist, Cincinnati Business Courier

Delta Air Lines has extended its lease for the aircraft maintenance hangar it operates at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for another 10 years.

Under the new lease terms, Delta will operate the hangar at 3318 Lincoln Road in Hebron through at least 2036, with two, five-year extension options upon the agreement of both the airport and the airline.

January numbers for CVG:

January Cargo (Tons)

2024: 151,258

2025: 132,350

Variance: -12.5%

As expected, this was a slow start to 2025 for the airport. The weather in January was awful, not just in Cincinnati, but across the country. With that being said, a ~2% dip in passenger volume vs. LY isn't bad at all. This was about as bad of a month as we could reasonably expect, and things are still close to even compared to 2024.

Cargo volume continues to struggle, but that is a trend we are seeing across the aviation industry.

Bengals-themed bar to open at CVG airport

By Christian LeDuc – Staff reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier

Updated Mar 4, 2025 7:04am EST

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is getting a new Bengals-themed sports bar.

Bengals Bar & Kitchen is opening soon in the former Outback Steakhouse restaurant space in Concourse B.

The more than 6,000-square-foot concept is being designed to showcase innovative interactivity inspired by the culture surrounding football in the United States, according to Mindy Kershner, CVG’s director of communications. It's meant to give travelers who may not be familiar with American football culture a glimpse of the excitement as the enter or leave the Tri-State region.

Starbucks has officially closed at CVG airport; here's when Dunkin' opens in its place

The Starbucks in Concourse A closed earlier this year, while the Starbucks in Concourse B closed last week. Both are set to be remodeled into Dunkin' locations. The transition from Starbucks to Dunkin' was first announced in January 2024, though a timeline was not laid out at the time.

The Concourse A Dunkin' will open "in the next several weeks," according to a CVG spokesperson, while the Concourse B Dunkin' will open later this summer.
