November 13, 201410 yr Allegiant in Indy is NOT good for Cincinnati. Just like Southwest won't come to Cincy because it is in Columbus, Allegiant in Indy could signify they are keeping their options open. Remember, discount airlines often open up in a new city, expand, wait a year or so, then pull out if things aren't exactly what they want.
November 13, 201410 yr Rudimentary photoshopping shows that it would fit in the mostly vacant land around Hunter OH. I wanted to place it further south but Mason and West Chester have so many sprawling neighborhoods we are running out of room! I am from Northern Kentucky, and while it would be bad for many NKY businesses it would be a huge benefit to the region if the airport was between Cincinnati and Dayton. The fact that Cincinnati's airport is on the south side of the city, and Dayton's is on the north side of their city just makes no sense. And as was mentioned before this could be a huge spur to developing regional light rail. It's more likely we would land on Mars in 10 years than a new airport would ever be built in Greater Cincinnati.
November 13, 201410 yr The other is going to be Peoria! FINALLY!!! Wait, are you serious? My dad lives two miles from PIA. That would SIGNIFICANTLY improve my life.

Remember, discount airlines often open up in a new city, expand, wait a year or so, then pull out if things aren't exactly what they want. I think you are over reacting. This latest wave of expansion by Allegiant only shows that they are moving into mid-size cities. They even said in the Q3 conference call that they are loving the way CVG is working out. The price differences between IND and CVG for Allegiant flights won't be enough for one market to draw from the other. The only thing that might make a difference will be the destinations that are being served and it's pretty obvious that CVG currently has the upper hand there.

Okay now I need to start lobbying for train service to Chicago from Peoria :P I think Peoria would be happy with train service to anywhere. Every other random city in Illinois has Amtrak service.
November 14, 201410 yr The new service to be announced next week will be a new market for Allegiant as far as I'm aware and it will only be twice per week, similar to the new JAX service. Allegiant currently flies to only one other destination in the state.
November 16, 201410 yr After looking at their route map I can only see New Orleans as Allegiant's next destination.
November 16, 201410 yr After looking at their route map I can only see New Orleans as Allegiant's next destination. Well there ya go!
November 17, 201410 yr I wonder how the Paris-CDG flight affects the "most expensive" airport designation. I imagine it is just calculated by an average of all fares paid but the news outlets that report this never seem to specify. The 767-300 used on that route has 26 business class seats that sell for $4,000-$10,000 R/T and 200 coach seats that are in the $1000-$2000 range. I know it makes up a small percentage of the overall daily seats, but not too many airports the size of CVG have an international route like this, and certainly not any of CVGs competition at DAY, LEX, SDF, IND,etc. Could this skew things a tad? Looking at the top routes from CVG, CDG comes in at #8 so it is certainly not an insignificant amount of volume.
November 18, 201410 yr Allegiant Air announces another new destination from CVG Nov 18, 2014, 10:00am EST Updated: Nov 18, 2014, 11:07am EST Chris Wetterich Staff reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will be among the first to get flights to Allegiant Air's newest destination: New Orleans. CVG, Indianapolis, Columbus and Orland-Sanford will get flights to the Big Easy. Allegiant has not previously flown to New Orleans. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/11/18/allegiant-air-announces-another-new-destination.html
December 3, 201410 yr After all of the negative stories re: Allegiant, I was a bit nervous... However, it was a very pleasant experience. We flew out on 11/22/14. Just know what to expect and keep your luggage under 40 lbs. Not hard to do. Also, seats were comfortable ... rows of 5 (3 on one side, 2 on the other), 37 rows I believe? We're lucky to have them!
December 16, 201410 yr EXCLUSIVE: Ultimate Air will add destination city (and maybe two) next year Steve Watkins - Staff Reporter - Cincinnati Business Courier Fast-growing private jet service Ultimate Air Shuttle plans to add its fourth destination city from Cincinnati next year with flights to Memphis, Tenn. Ultimate Air is also considering adding Nashville at the same time, Ultimate Air managing director Rick Pawlak told me Monday. "Memphis is our first choice, and that's the one we're looking to start for sure," Pawlak said. "But I'm learning there's demand out there for Nashville, too. We're talking to Cincinnati companies now and telling them that they'll have the opportunity to build their own schedule." Cont "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
December 16, 201410 yr Ultimate air is great for business travel because of the timing and how quickly they get people on and off by landing at smaller terminals. You can fly to a destination for 6 hour meeting and come back the same day, which makes it cheaper than getting a hotel and additional meals, etc. I'm curious what the business demand is in Memphis that would drive this decision? The current destinations of Charlotte, Chicago, and NYC are obvious ones. Though Ultimate quickly becomes perfect for personal use when they have sales. The sale price is still a bit above the already high CVG fares, but it’s worth the cost IMO, especially when you factor in how much frivolous crap you buy on a vacation anyway.

December 16, 201410 yr Yeah, I've been thinking about biking to my friend's house in Wisconsin from Cincinnati which would take about five days but don't have enough vacation time to bike back. It would be nice to bike back to Chicago and throw the bike on a plane. Then bike back from Lunken to my house!
December 17, 201410 yr Morristown, NJ? That's hardly "NYC". Teterboro, would be acceptable, but Morristown is truly 'Jersey'. I guess no one is really calling them on it, so they get away with it.
January 27, 201510 yr New airline announcement coming tomorrow at 11am!!! Will be the 10th airline to operate from CVG!!
January 28, 201510 yr Any guesses? (Other than Jet Blue or Southwest) Looks like it will be a puddle jumper airline flying to Branson, MO.
January 28, 201510 yr Any guesses? (Other than Jet Blue or Southwest) Looks like it will be a puddle jumper airline flying to Branson, MO. Branson!?! Silver Dollar City, here I come!
January 28, 201510 yr While the airline is called Branson Air, it will provide service to large cities like Houston, Denver, Chicago, etc.
January 28, 201510 yr Chris Wetterich just tweeted that it will fly to New Orleans, Cancun, and Branson. Branson does provide another option to get to Fayetteville/Bentonville, although we do have a direct flight to Fayetteville. Edit: Apparently NO and Cancun are connections from Branson.
January 28, 201510 yr New airline will fly from CVG to three leisure destinations Jan 28, 2015, 11:12am EST Staff Cincinnati Business Courier A new airline will launch service from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport this spring and fly to Missouri, Louisiana and Mexico. Branson AirExpress, operated by Orange Air, will start service on May 7 to Branson, New Orleans and Cancun. The airline will offer introductory one-way fares of $99 for the domestic flights and $199 to Cancun. Flights will depart from CVG on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and will return on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/01/28/new-airline-will-fly-from-cvg-to-three-leisure.html
February 18, 201510 yr I wish Delta would pull the plug already. Maybe sell the hub to United Airlines. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2015/02/17/latest-round-delta-cuts-cvg/23565213/
February 21, 201510 yr Frontier will be announcing new flights from CVG next week. Just saw the tweet.
February 21, 201510 yr I hope one of the value airlines pick up some of the direct flights Delta is abandoning. A lot of business travel depends upon direct flight options. I utilized Delta's direct flight to Jacksonville a lot last year, and now that it's been dropped I would consider using Allegient's if they could offer it more than once a week. Business travelers won't shy away from value airlines if they are the only ones offering direct flights.
February 21, 201510 yr Allegiant flies to Jacksonville twice per week but I get what you're saying. The frequency just isn't there. The good thing with Frontier is they seem to announce most new year round flights as daily now. I'm thinking that these new routes won't just be the traditional leisure routes. They are having a large build up at O'hare so that is an option.
February 22, 201510 yr Frontier will be announcing the following on Monday: Increasing service to Las Vegas from 7 flights a week to 14 Increasing service to Orlando from 4 flights a week to 7 Increasing service to Fort Lauderdale from 3 flights a week to 7 New daily service to Ft. Myers New daily service to Atlanta Total flights by Frontier from CVG will go from 32 a week to 61. Seat capacity will increase from 4,500 seats to 8,500.

I didn't see Las Vegas getting doubled up. I'm also surprised about the Florida destinations. Winter will be ending soon (hopefully) so it just doesn't make much sense to add that many flights to Florida right now. I guess they are expecting the cutbacks from Delta to really help them. The new service to Atlanta doesn't surprise me, they are building up there. I am kinda surprised that they didn't add O'hare though.
February 22, 201510 yr A LOT of people go to Florida for Spring Break and Summer Vacation. I would say tourism likely increases in the summer.
February 23, 201510 yr A LOT of people go to Florida for Spring Break and Summer Vacation. I would say tourism likely increases in the summer. In Orlando at least, when I lived there, summer was the quieter season.
February 24, 201510 yr Stay tuned to the @BusinessCourier website. We’ll have another @CVGairport flight expansion announcement later this morning. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 24, 201510 yr Another day, another set of new flights from CVG – this time from Allegiant Feb 24, 2015, 4:00am EST Updated: Feb 24, 2015, 6:10am EST Chris Wetterich Staff reporter and columnist- Cincinnati Business Courier Allegiant Air will offer flights to two new seasonal destinations from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport at introductory prices. The ultra-low cost carrier will fly to Austin, Texas and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport twice per week. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/02/24/another-day-another-set-of-new-flights-from-cvg.html
February 24, 201510 yr Stay tuned to the @BusinessCourier website. Well have another @CVGairport flight expansion announcement later this morning. Allegiant Air adding both CVG-AUS (Austin, TX) and CVG-SAV (Savannah, GA) as twice-a-week seasonal routes. Austin begins in June, Savannah begins in May. Both end in August. Savannah/Hilton Head and the Low Country are popular destination spots for Cincinnati folk, so I'm sure that will do well (I tend to expect it gets extended). Austin, more of a question mark to me. I know plenty of people who business-travel from CVG to either AUS or SAT (San Antonio), and those folk don't like how they always have to connect. But Allegiant flights aren't geared toward the business flier. Allegiant has done their market research, no doubt, but intuitively I'm not sure there's enough leisure-traffic for these flights to work. Also: the summer, Austin is freaking HOT at that time of year. Is the summer a "high time" for leisure travel to Austin?
February 25, 201510 yr With the latest Frontier expansion, they are now the #2 airline flying out of CVG.
March 8, 201510 yr Allegiant has already expanded the length of time that they will be serving the CVG to Savannah/Hilton Head route. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2015/03/06/allegiant-expands-new-cvg-flight-before-its-first.html
March 10, 201510 yr Here's an article from the Enquirer about the latest round of cuts. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news...ti-airline-cuts-kentucky/24701445/ It'd be nice to see JetBlue, Alaska, Virgin America, or Southwest add some flights but I know it's a long shot.
April 22, 201510 yr Exclusive: CVG courts airlines in Japan Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport officials have been in Japan this week recruiting two of Asia's largest airlines, The Enquirer has learned. CVG's executives were scheduled to meet with Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways – potentially paving the way for new nonstop flights to a popular global business region for Greater Cincinnati companies. There are no guarantees either airline is coming to Cincinnati, and it's probably a long-shot for CVG to grow direct international flights. The airport's officials are working on a long-term plan in preparation for life after Delta Air Lines in the coming years. April 22, 201510 yr Good news! I really think a flight to Japan would have put Cincinnati in the running for the Toyota headquarters. www.cincinnatiideas.com
April 22, 201510 yr I really do not see this happening in the foreseeable future. Especially with the area losing the Toyota headquarters, not to mention nearly 75% of CVG traffic is now O&D.
April 30, 201510 yr New Frontier flights start at CVG today Apr 30, 2015, 6:31am EDT Lisa Benson Managing Editor- Cincinnati Business Courier Frontier Airlines is boosting service to three cities from the Cincinnati airport and adding service to two new destinations today. The low-cost carrier will start flying to Atlanta and Fort Myers, Fla. from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, using a 138-seat Airbus 319 aircraft. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/morning_call/2015/04/new-frontier-flights-start-at-cvg-today.html

April 30, 201510 yr Good news! I really think a flight to Japan would have put Cincinnati in the running for the Toyota headquarters. Oh heavens no. Why not? One of the biggest drives of the move to Plano was the high cost of of their California office in Torrance. They said that NKY was not considered for the HQ because they were seeking a neutral site between the two offices but who knows how their calculus would have changed if we had a direct flight to Japan. When I worked at a Japanese company there was constant travel of expats and others back and forth to Japan. www.cincinnatiideas.com
April 30, 201510 yr I heard speculation that part of the reason is that this isn't Toyota's North American headquarters so much as its headquarters for the entire Western Hemisphere as it expects significant growth of production and sales of cars in Mexico, Central America, and South America. In fact that is much of what drives many corporate relocations to Texas -- not the supposedly low taxes but rather the proximity of Texas to production facilities and markets in Mexico and points south.
