Also, a major Fortune 500 company is to relocate to downtown Cincinnati! I will take this announcement as seriously as the one about this airline. There is possible cut backs at ATL do to costs of a new contract.

So, CVG may be able to position itself for some gains here.

What? I'm confused, are you being serious? A F500 company is relocating it's HEADQUARTERS here? That's big news, Cincinnati is already way over-represented in Fortune 500 company's for a region it's size.

This guy ;) could have solved all of the problems

Google adsense note: I am getting Kayak, a flight search site, in the ad bar.

The CVG consolidated rental car facility is opening soon. I was able to snap this picture of the walkway from baggage claim.  Looks quite nice!

  • Wendys has officially opened at CVG, concourse B. Skyline seems to have a slower contractor or the Gold Star space was really a dump either way they are still chugging along. Food court will be full f

Lets all try to avoid this kind of chatter that seems to be accomplishing nothing beyond confusion for other people.  We can discuss the possibilities of what this might be and all that jazz, but lets just be patient until YtownNewsandViews is able to share more information with us.  Patience is a virtue.

Damn you Cincybearcat for editing your post and making me look like an idiot!

But you are correct...this thread is an excellent example of how rumors get started!

CVG woos Delta, AirTran for new flights

By James Pilcher • [email protected] • January 21, 2009

HEBRON - Local airport officials Wednesday stepped up a lobbying campaign with hub tenant Delta Air Lines as well as low-cost airline AirTran in an attempt to lure flights here.  The move comes after both carriers have raised the possibility of moving some operations out Atlanta due to potential higher costs there.

Kenton County Airport Board chairman Lawson Walker II sent a letter to the top executives of both airlines outlining the positive attributes of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, which was Delta's second-largest hub prior to its merger with Northwest Airlines last fall.

That is not the airline. If you don't believe me, the least you could do is PM me or EMAIL me about it....

As noted above, I have designed a potential website for the airline which I have up and running on my server if you'd like to see it.

I will email the guy and see when he plans to announce.

Oh, Mmmm. Ok.  My bad!

Just saw on the news ... AirTran.

Ytown's not gonna like that post.

Nothing against you, Ytown, and we really do appreciate the possibility of another airline coming, but don't get offended when people question or raise the possibility that the goody bag you present may either be premature or wrong. You only gave us the chips for us to bake a chocolate chip cookie with, and when an announcement by AirTran results in a new airline to CVG, what else do you expect us to believe?

If there is a third airline in the pipeline, that would be amazing. But let's keep the speculation down in the future to prevent any potential misfires -- here and in the real world.

Folks listen. I am not lying to you. If AirTran is looking out of CVG, then I think that would be great, but that is not the carrier I am talking about. I've emailed the potential website to 3 posters so far. I wouldn't come on here and lie about something like this. And no idea where you got AirTran Cincinnatius, I can't find that on the news.

BUT I can confirm this much: The announcement is being put on hold until around February 1st.... CVG and the carrier have a few more things they want to work on a bit harder, such as stronger fares, times, etc.

For those who still do not believe me, read my other site:

http://yngair.com

The Youngstown Airport is targeting this same airline, and if you search for Cincinnati in the search box, you will find the comment from the potential airline.

Stronger fares? what does that mean? Competitive? Cheaper? In line with Delta? If it's the latter it will fail.

Folks listen. I am not lying to you. [...] I wouldn't come on here and lie about something like this. And no idea where you got AirTran Cincinnatius, I can't find that on the news.

Southwest, AirTran and JetBlue have been in discussions to provide flights to CVG for a while now.

No one is saying you are lying, but speculations and rumors are just that. Speculations and rumors. The AirTran bit is _valid_ _cited_ proof that yes, there is a new airline coming to CVG, although it is unrelated to what you were discussing. There are more articles by doing a Google News query, that AirTran is potentially leaving Hartford (along with Delta), and you'll hear more about it tomorrow. There is no reason to discount the Enquirer's factual article.

As a side note, Skybus was, as recently as September, looking to provide service to CVG.

I saw the AirTran info on the 5 o'clock news.

Im confused about this skybus talk..the company went under in early april of 08 and in this economic time i dont see it popping back up any time soon. Wikipedia does mention that skybus founder John Weikle has shown interest in reviving the airline and making Springfield, OH its main hub but little information is to be had about it. I had the privilege of flying on the airline in september of 07 and was extremely impressed by the quality, service, and best of all the value that they offered. I would love to see them return, especially to CVG, but i dont think it's realistic for anyone to get their hopes up about it.

You folks talk of SkyBus like it still exists. It Doesn't!

Frontier airlines? Im starting to see more of their ads in the area.

SkyBus had a serious attempt at reorganizing, and CVG was an important stop to them.

It looks like back in August John Weikle was seriously considering CVG as a hub for a new low cost carrier "Jet America". Maybe this is the big surprise.

Is it Oceanic?

LOL!

Is it Oceanic?

Thanks, but no thanks.

What news channel---I can't google anything on it.

Okay folks. I will post this because I think it is beneficial to the potential airline and the potential customers to review.

This is not the official website, but a side group started by the website for suggestions..... Please try to keep this amongst ourselves before you go spreading the news around Cincy!

Ytown---

You do realize the Enquirer gets leads from here on occasion?

I've already forwarded it!

Is this a charter or regularly schedule air service?

50 seat regional aircraft????  Isn't that the type of aircraft all the bigger airlines were trying to get rid of during the big oil spike?

50 seat regional aircraft????

I flew one to NYC recently on Eagle or whatever it is now and loved it.

^ Thank you.

okay---The January 20th interview with the CEO says Cincinnati would be a very difficult market to enter.  Dayton serves those Cincinnatians eager for discounts.  That doesn't sound like they are coming any time soon.  He does mention expanding in Memphis, Minneapolis and Detriot.

Yes, Airtran entering CVG is like Airtran coming into YNG with nearby Akron-Canton and Pittsburgh. It simply does not make sense really. If you are doing well at an airport 90 minutes away, stick with that airport.

Start-up airline looking at CVG

By James Pilcher • [email protected] • January 28, 2009

HEBRON -The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is one of three airports under final consideration to serve as headquarters and the launch site for a new start-up low-cost airline, officials of JetAmerica said today.

But organizers of the possible airline, who were behind the launch of now-defunct low-cost carrier Skybus in Columbus, are still looking for an investment from the local community of up to $6 million to get started.  "Given that Cincinnati has the highest air fares in the nation, we think we can save the community $700 million a year in fares, so that investment has a great return," said JetAmerica vice president of operations Chris Grazel.

Overall, the effort will need as much as $100 million to actually launch the airline, Grazel said, noting that funding will probably come from national and international sources.  He said Toledo is another strong finalist, but declined to name any other cities.

HAHA and before anyone asks: No this is not the carrier either... Few more days til you see that in the paper.

I'm going to be labeled a hater, but a "start up" in this economy?

All the legacy carriers lost money and the LCCs are struggling.

Ridiculous!

looks like wikipedia didnt lie

How is it possible that there are multiple start ups and multiple existing airlines eyeing CVG right now?  I mean, I like it, but I don't understand it.

How is it possible that there are still airline start ups?  Who is looking at this industry and saying, "Wow thats were we'll make our fortune" ?

I agree. I hope which ever airline that comes here succeeds though, whether that be JetAir, Skybus, AirTran, or whatever ...

The ONLY airline succeeding right now.... ALLEGIANT AIR, and they fly right here in Youngstown!

ALGT 38.36, +2.46, +6.9%) the Las Vegas parent of Allegiant Air, reported that fourth-quarter earnings nearly quadrupled on 21% higher revenue. The company also said it would buy back as much as $25 million of its common stock. Earnings reached $18.2 million, or 88 cents a share, from $4.8 million, or 23 cents, in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose to $122.4 million from $101 million. Allegiant had "tuned the airline to handle high fuel prices in the fourth quarter, as evidenced by the year-over-year reduction in capacity, and substantial increases in passengers per departure, load factor and total average air fare,

How is it possible that there are still airline start ups?  Who is looking at this industry and saying, "Wow thats were we'll make our fortune" ?

I often wonder if a new airline with a slightly different business plan might be able to succeed.  Take fare structure for example.  I've always thought that tickets should get cheaper the week/day of departure instead of exorbitantly more expensive.  After all, that seat is going with the plane, whether someone pays to sit in it or not.  Every empty seat in the air is lost revenue.  As long the number of flights are close to what demand dictates, you wouldn't have too many people risking a last minute purchase to get a cheaper fare, and you might actually get some people to go on trips on the spur of the moment.  Also, how about tweaking frequent flyer programs to reward people incrementally like many frequent shopper cards do?  Like, you book a flight and the website sees that you are a member and you've already flown twice this year, and it automatically knocks $50 off the price or upgrades you (if available)?  Yeah, I know this is way off topic, but it seems like the current business model is busted, so maybe a startup could succeed.

When I speak of airlines I speak of National carries with full route maps (legacy carriers like Continental, Untied, Delta, American, USScareways) and (LCC like JetBlue, SouthWest, Alaska, Frontier & Airtran).
