And casino construction officially halted

Casino developer Rock Gaming and its partner Caesars Entertainment have suspended construction of both its gambling projects in Cincinnati and Cleveland, citing its dispute with Ohio officials who want to increase their taxes.

Kasich is like an internet troll with actual power. When all is said and done, and he loses his bid for reelection, I just hope he can admit he did it for the lulz.

When I first heard about this fundamentalist belief, I said, boy that sounds just like Kasich. He's a religious wingnut and he hates cities. Wonder if there is a correlation to this sort of anti-urban fundamentalism?.....

Whenever there are large groups of people living together, the congested conditions

always bring out the worst of human behavior.  The history of urbanization might very well

also be a history of human criminal behavior.  From cities of ancient times like Babel,

before Sodom and Gomorra, to modern day urban centers, cities foster all types of human

perversions.  Therefore, the question must be asked, why pick out Sodom and Gomorra

from all cities to destroy?

Kasich's a joke.  Whether he likes it or not we voted to allow these casino's operated under the current fee and tax structure.  This little political trick is costing people jobs and the state money.

Interesting take on the resolution of the Casino shake-down, especially regarding the fat contract for firm repping the state in the negotiations:

Casinos, consultant hit Kasich's jackpot: Brent Larkin

And for the New York-based consulting company that earned an astonishing fee of $13 million for its work -- work that a bright, well-prepared fifth-grader could have performed as a homework assignment -- the deal was nothing short of spectacular.

If ever a contract were deserving of more scrutiny, it is the Kasich administration's unprecedented gift to Moelis & Co.

A small team of Assistant AG's making $60,000 a year could have brokered that deal.

Online Gambling Regulation Could be Coming Soon to Ohio

Ohio Republican lawmakers in the state House and the Senate have introduced separate bills that would legalize online gambling.

Ohio state Sen. Nathan Manning, R-North Ridgeville, introduced Ohio Senate Bill 197 last week and Ohio state Reps. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, and Marilyn John, R-Richland County, introduced Ohio House Bill 298 this week.

There is overlap with the bills. Both pieces of legislation would regulate online gambling through the Ohio Casino Control Commission and internet gambling would start by March 31.

Nearly all of the tax proceeds from internet gambling would go to the state’s general revenue fund and 1% would go to the Problem Gambling Fund. Both bills only allow an Ohio casino or racino to be licensed as an internet gambling operator. Someone would have to be at least 21 and physically in Ohio to participate in internet gambling.

The lawmakers behind these bills say Ohioans are already participating illegally in online gambling.

“It is important to highlight that online gambling is already occurring in the state of Ohio,” Manning said during his sponsor testimony last week in the Senate Select Committee on Gaming. “It is difficult to quantify an exact number, but it is clear there is significant illegal online gambling going on in the state, as there was illegal sports betting before it was legalized.”

Critics Push Back Against Online Gambling Expansion in Ohio

A proposal in the Ohio Senate would expand online gaming to include casino games, lottery and horse betting. Similar legislation is working through the Ohio House, too. But dramatically expanding the scope and availability of gaming has drawn a wide array of critics.

Between charging operators at least $50 million in licensing fees and imposing a tax rate of at least 36% on gambling receipts, the Senate proposal would generate a substantial sum of money. Legislative researchers peg the annual tax collections at almost $175 million. The bill’s sponsor and the gambling industry suggest the eventual figure could be double or triple that much.

But some critics, already in the gaming industry, worry about sharing the market with new entrants. Others oppose the idea for religious or mental health reasons. Last week they made their case to state lawmakers.
