Posted April 14, 201114 yr Based on the streetcar thread, it seems obvious that "GoCOAST" has come back as "GoCincyCOAST." I am sure it is just a matter of time before they are banned again. Does the site have the ability to ban users by IP address, to prevent recurring abuses from the same people?
April 14, 201114 yr We do, but there is a particular problem in this case and I cannot discuss it publically. But don't worry about GoCincyCoast, he'll be dealt with. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 14, 201114 yr ^That's cool. I brought it up because I have been on other boards where they apparently are incapable of it, and it just gets old seeing the same thing crop up under different names again and again. Thanks for the quick response (and the good work running the site).
April 14, 201114 yr A problem that is often run in to is people using the internet on public computers. This would include libraries or workplaces. I'm not familiar with our local troll, so I can only speculate.
April 14, 201114 yr Another problem with IP bans is some ISPs assign dynamic IPs, meaning it changes each time someone connects with the ISP's server.
April 14, 201114 yr Another problem is that many companies filter all outbound traffic through one IP, so multiple people could appear to have the same IP.
April 15, 201114 yr A problem that is often run in to is people using the internet on public computers. This would include libraries or workplaces. I'm not familiar with our local troll, so I can only speculate. Isn't it ironic that the anti-everythings blast taxpayer funding, but have no problem in using taxpayer-funded computer systems, utilities, connections, buildings etc. at libraries and other public places. They probably even used taxpayer funded streets and roads to get there! What they need is a taxpayer-funded enema. April 15, 201114 yr I think the United Kingdom had the right idea by shipping all their political crackpots, religious nuts, and criminals to overseas colonies. (Alas, those colonies grew up and became their own countries, and we now live in one of them.)
