I know Dick Goddard would not say this but Vermillion to me means a special dinner on the patio at Chez Francois.

Very nautical and touristy looking...

... but without the apparent tackiness that pervades most small-town tourist destinations. It looks tidy and respectable.

That Prague restaurant looks good! Has anyone gone there?

Love the place.

And you got Barnacle Bills Surf Shop right behind the VW Bus!!!!

So I see you deleted my post and spelled it right :D!

Nice photos.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

More homey and natural than most in that area, it seems.

^ yeah Vermillion is a bright spot in comparison to many of the surrounding communities.  So much of the lakefront in Ohio is dilapidated or just worn out looking.  Sure, the beach there can use a little tlc, but Vermillion is nice, and I'd say it still has a ton of potential.

nice thread -- is the great lakes museum still there? i heard it was moving?

factoid: the very cute bunglalow neighborhood around the beach/museum/chez francois is a well-known retirement community for great lakes shipping captains and crew.

on the not cute side vermilion also has a terrible racist history: so i was often told that the "welcome to vermilion n- don't let the sun set on your ass" sign on the eastside was notorious into the 1950's. so much for northern racial liberalism, eh? actually all the surrounding towns have that underlying racially driven/suburbanish attitude toward lorain, at one time vermilion just spelled it out.
