I can't stand Fedor's act and I'm not thrilled that he's now on 92.3.  Hopefully his role is limited to the update desk at that station.

Some of it isn't so bad.  Does anyone know the name of that slow, dim-witted cartoon character Kiley & Booms pattern after Browns management?  It makes me laugh every time they play the sound clip...

Here's how I see it (best to worst)

3-Deep

Baskin and Phelps

Ken Carmen

The Really Big Show

The Bull and the Fox

Munch in the Morning

Kiley and Booms

WKNR-AM cans three of its on-air personalities

By KEVIN KLEPS

3:00 pm, August 20, 2013

Less than one month after the revamped “Cleveland Browns Daily” debuted in a fancy new studio at the Cleveland Browns' training facility in Berea, the all-sports-talk station that broadcasts the show five afternoons per week — WKNR-AM, 850 — let go of three of its high-profile on-air personalities.

Will Burge, Kenny Roda and T.J. Zuppe were fired on Tuesday, the trio of hosts confirmed to Crain's.

Mr. Roda had been with the station for 21 years, and most recently was the co-host of “Cleveland Sports Night” with Michael Reghi.

Mr. Burge was one of a trio of hosts of “3 Deep,” which aired weeknights on WKNR, and Mr. Zuppe was a prominent part of “The Hooligans,” a drive-time show featuring Bruce Hooley and Greg Brinda.

Mr. Roda said in a phone interview that he didn't want to discuss the situation in detail until he met with his attorney on Wednesday.

H..... E...... double hockey sticks!!  Three of my favorites (OK, maybe not Roda, but he certainly is not on my sh!t list).  How you keep Hooley and Brinda over any of those guys is beyond me.  Burge made 3-deep the show it is and Zuppe was the only personality on the Hooligans who talks about something other second guessing every move made by the Browns'/Indians'/Cavs' management teams.

Looks like I will be spending more time at The Fan

I agree. 3 Deep was the best show they had on the station. Fun to listen to, and those three guys had a great dynamic. Zuppe actually brought some basic baseball knowledge to the afternoon show the few times I listened to it. That station has become unbearable. Both guys were young up and comers that were squashed for the old farts still on the station.

I honestly didn't even know Roda was still on the station. I hadn't heard him in years. I'm floored by the other guys.

^and yet Chuck Booms keeps his job at the Fan. I will celebrate when that day comes.

Wow, I wonder if all three of those guys wind up on 92.3 in some capacity.

Interesting that Regghi has moved over 92.3 (and STO, as well).  I must have missed the official announcement of that happening.

I wonder if 92.3 is starting to rattle 850 a bit.

Regghi and Ken Carmen host the Coach Chud show Tuesday nights. He hasn't moved to 92.3, AFAIK.

^ Yeah, I think there's some crossover of talent relating to Browns coverage since they split the rights to the Browns programming.

Atlanta needs a history lesson from the Rust Belt.  Sometime over the next few decades, the ATL bubble is going to burst big-time

No doubt. With all the stuff that is going on down there I was surprised to read about the city having no money.

Really seems like it could be Detroit South if the economy down that way would ever turn south like the auto industry did up here. Sprawl on an outrageous scale. Horrendous traffic. Teams leaving for the suburbs (a la Silver Dome and Palace of Auburn Hills).

Atlanta's different from Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago et al in that its major growth happened during the "sprawl" area.  Most of those suburbanites have no roots in the city itself, they came from elsewhere.  In any case their limiting factor is water and centralization might make that worse.

Trivisanno was discussing this yesterday, from the perspective of "should Cleveland do this?".  It was the clearest he's been about his feelings regarding downtown for awhile.

And he said what?

And he said what?

He was noncommittal about the stadiums, but came out and said "it's a pain in the ass to go downtown" and similar sentiments.  This from a guy who one would think would enjoy close proximity to Horseshoe.

He constantly complains that there is no place to park downtown.  That's all you need to know about his views on downtown.  He would prefer a texas style stadium in the middle of nowhere, right off the interstate, with a sea of parking surrounding it on each side.  It's good to hear that he mentioned something tangentially related to sports.  He hasn't done much of that the past 5 yrs

Who on earth under the age of 65 listens to Trivisanno? I mean seriously.

Apparently the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs does

A lot of very angry, disgruntled 40 and 50-somethings.  And some people like me ;) when I can't take any more of the pity party over at the Hooligans.  Believe it or not, Triv's show is actually a little bit of a reprieve after you listen to Bruce piss and moan for a few minutes.

I only listen to him in short bursts, but it doesn't take much for him to start harping on some purported lack of parking downtown.  And he's being dead serious, believe it or not

Use this quote on him....

Mark "Munch" Bishop had a caller on who was complaining about traffic on Browns game days.

Munch says, "Well friend then I got three letters for you...R T A!"

I think Cleveland is incredibly accessible and their are probably too many parking garages. He probably just hates the traffic. I bet if he sat in the same traffic in Westlake or Strongsville, he wouldn't be complaining. He would be talking about how it is a positive sign of economic vitality.

He's unlistenable sometimes, but is sometimes dead on.  He comes closer to thinking like the average white suburban male over thirty or so than anyone else in the Cleveland media does, plus he has his sidekicks to float slightly diverse views.  His real strength is the fact that he's very good at getting people who know things to talk to him and just as good at not blowing their cover.  His weakness is his call screening.  He should adopt some of Jim Rome's "more of me and less of you is a good thing" approach.

He makes a bigger stink about the 271-S traffic fiasco than he does about downtown's.

There. Fixed that for you.

If that's the case, why did Polensek spend significant time on his show discussing his issues with the Cleveland Browns Stadium renovation?

^Because Triv's hate for Haslam and love for the Lerner and Modell families gives Polensik a sympathetic ear to his stance on the issue.  Regardless, it is a City, not county (i.e. surburban) issue.  The City owns the stadium and the City will be paying a share of the renovation, not the county.  People get confused because Gateway is owned by the County, but CBS is owned by the City.

Which is a point that was made during the discussion.

Also, the sin tax expires in 2015.  It's a county tax and if it is not renewed, the city's on the hook for some big bucks.  The city owns CBS, but the county subsidizes it.

He's friendly with the Lerners, but he tears up modell as much as anyone.

All I have ever heard him do is defend Modell's moving of the Browns

All I have ever heard him do is defend Modell's moving of the Browns

Because of his hatred of the city. He assumes the city HAD to be the dominant source of blame even though players' salaries had grown so much that Modell couldn't afford an NFL team anymore, even after getting a sweetheart deal in Baltimore. He ending up doing in Baltimore what he should have done in Cleveland -- sell the team to someone with deeper pockets. But Triv ignores all of this and still tries to blame the city (and county) who Modell told "to wait."

I don't understand Triv's support of the Lerners either. Al Lerner was certainly interested in the future of the Browns. Randy couldn't care less about owning the Browns and it showed. And the moment he fulfilled his promise of not selling the team for at least 10 years after his dad died, he got rid of it.

Also from a guy who's too fat and lazy to drag his a$$ to work somedays.  I'm pretty sure he has a T1 line in his house and phones in the broadcast often.

As an aside, I'd love to see an collective IQ test from Triv and his listeners.

He had a very insulting caricature voice of modell on for years.

Of course he does.  You'd be amazed how common that is in the industry.

His callers are a brain drain for sure.  It's not his role to be smart in any case, but to be blunt and overbearing.

Which, by the way, is also a caricature.  This is very common as well.  Rush and Howard Stern are nothing like their on-air personas either.  Rush is actually more libertarian IRL, and almost humble.

I've heard people in Cleveland radio say that they begin to really worry about Gary Dee when he began having trouble reverting to "Gary D. Gilbert" after the show was done.

We all hate him yet we are talking about him, not the other sports radio talk show hosts. I suspect Triv would say "mission accomplished."

When is the last time you heard him spend more than 5 minutes actually talking about sports?  2008?

I don't listen to him at all, or anyone else at 3WE (I'm curious as to how many people will get that). My point is we are talking about him, even though we hate him, and that's exactly what he wants.

I don't hate him.  He makes me laugh sometimes with his dunce routine.  I want to reach through the radio and smack him sometimes, but I don't hate him :)  I save my hate for a select few.

Ha!  I always suspected the call letter switch was to make it easier for their listeners to remember.  3WE was way to confusing! ;)

WTAM were actually the original call letters when the station first signed on air. When Nick Mileti bought the station sometime in the 70's those letters were changed to WWWE. During the 90's the right leaning ClearChannel broadcasting corp. changed it back to WTAM and it became the mouth piece for the republican party through it's most important day parts, from BillWills to GlennBeck to MushLimpjaw to Trivissano to Boob Franz. And that's my objective opinion

Believe me, if liberal talk radio had competitive ratings CC would carry it.  The succesful hosts (primarily Rush) remember what most of the conservatives and just about all of the liberals forget:  it's more important from the ratings perspective to be entertaining than informative.

I want to be informed, which is why I don't listen to radio (except for Baskin & Phelps, or watch much TV -- except for BBC, the Military Channel, Big Bang Theory and sports). I spend more time reading news than watching it. I refuse to listen to Kiley & Booms. If a sports talk show host like Booms thinks he has enough experience or savvy to discuss politics, then he needs to remind himself that the only difference between him and a gorilla is that he watches sports. If I want to hear political talk, I'll tune to a political station. Why Booms thinks his moronic political views belong on a sports talk station is pure ego. He needs to drill a hole in his head and leave the rest of us alone.

Certainly there should be a balance of both entertainment and information.  I think hosts see extraneous stuff as a way to fill time.

One thing I think a lot of talk shows put way too much emphasis on is phone calls (this does not include scheduled interviews conducted by phone).  They detract from most shows, yet Jim Rome is the only host I've ever heard openly state this.    What would be the ratio of listeners to those who can and would call in?  E-mail and texts allow listener feedback without taking up actual on-air time.

Certainly there should be a balance of both entertainment and information.  I think hosts see extraneous stuff as a way to fill time.

Which underscores my contention about their lack of imagination. If a sports-talker can't fill time in a market with three major league sports teams, a top national sports program (OSU) just down the road, tons of frequently NCAA-contending MAC sports teams around and numerous state-title-contending high school programs in the area, he probably doesn't deserve to be on the air.

Great point KJP. And there is almost never any discussion of hockey or soccer, which would be nice just to have just for a little change of pace.

As long as Cleveland does not have major league franchises that won't happen.

The role of sports talk has changed since the advent of the 'net.  They used to break stories and rumors, now they are rehashing same.

Tony Rizzo arrested for domestic violence http://t.co/JoRHtrH8Jr

Wow.  Ms. Katherine?  I'm shocked.  Never took Rizzo to be that guy.  He was on the f'in air this morning!  Take a leave of absence, Bro.  If this holds up, I would suspect that he will be off KNR and lose his show on Fox 8.

I turned KNR on about 30 minutes ago and he was making an announcement (with Bernie on the line for support). He claims he's innocent and pled not guilty.

Then someone came into my office and I missed the rest. How rude! Work can wait! There's radio gossip!

That's a tough one to overcome when part of your show is based on you being the nice guy everyman. His mug shot does him no favors either.

Possibly, but not yet. Amazingly, Chuck Galeti's entire show "Last Call" was taken off the air after his arrest (not conviction) for drunken driving. Granted, it wasn't his first arrest for driving drunk, so that may have been a factor.

You might be amazed at what alcohol can do to people, especially when a couple has problems and they are both drunk.
