^I like Baskin & Phelps (sometimes featuring old stand-in Les Levine) even though some younger listeners think they're old farts.  I appreciate the lower key, less yelling, more sports orientation of B&P than with many 92.3 hosts, even though when listening to sports I stick pretty much with WKRK most of the day.  WKNR has gotten rather annoying to me, and they seem to talk Browns 24/7 (anything with Bruce Hooley, Jerod Cherry or Rizzo I tune out).  I find myself listening to the national ESPN feeds on WKNR (like Mike & Mike in the Morning and Freddie Coleman or Bobby V at night/weekends) more than I do the KNR locals.

^... of course with Mike Golic on M & M, you often get a Cleveland angle, which is cool.  And even though Golic (obviously) is a football guy, he's surprisingly versatile in his conversation, which I like -- unlike the local talkers, like Cherry, who is totally one-track.  Dustin Fox has gotten a little better on 92.3 in that regard, although he and Bull talk Browns around 80% of the time.

I'm really liking Greg Brinda again. He, more than anyone, echoes my frustration of the Cleveland Indians lol.

I don't like breaking up Rizzo and Aaron. But that's radio, I guess. I've been going with say 65% 92.3 to 35%WKNR. I'm sick of the Browns talk. Cleveland Browns Daily, man, Vic Carucci is so freakishly boring.

^Agreed.  I've always liked Brinda after Indians games.  He's the most passionate and (seemingly) knowledgeable about baseball of Cleveland's sports talkers.

I like the out of town perspective that Bull brings. You can tell he really digs living in Cleveland. Fox, yes he's definitely gotten better. I don't care to hear about the depth chart of the OSU TE corps.

Anyone else hear a rumor that former WTAM Kevin Keane was starting a new weekend show on 92.3?

The Lima/Fox/Bull "Give it to me again!" routine is fun in an over-the-top kind of way

Give it to me again was so lame.  If you are going to rip off LeBatard, you gotta at least do it well and come from the same place of sarcasm.

Bull isn't smart enough, for my taste.  I wish they'd can Baskin and have the phelps and les show.  Also, I think Lima might end up being really good.

Rip off? Maybe you and I use that term differently, but I think that they did the bit more to poke fun at LeBatard.

they continue the hashtag and printed shirts.

Also, you need to listen to LeBatards radio show regularly to understand, but he didn't do those to brag, he is making fun of the spectacle of sports.  It was all tongue in cheek.

Nah, that's okay, I don't really care to spend time listening to an incredibly biased Miami homer.

Bull is, by nature, very argumentative and he and Fox mix it up often; I don't think it's contrived.  Their "Let Me Talk" segment toward the end of the show is pretty funny if, for anything, for the way it's executed... Also as you probably know, Bull has a national show on CBS radio -- I don't listen often, but I think it comes on weekends.

youre missing out, that show is better than anything in cleveland.  Not that that's saying much.

is there anyway to find out which sports shows have the best ratings or listernship?

I'm pretty sure The Really Big Show has the largest audience

Not the best audience. Nor the best host (not by far). The best is Ken Carmen. He's the funniest and one of the most intelligent sports talkers on the air.

I agree.  That's why I was wondering.  WHen I travel to Michigan for work, you can get 850 all the way up there and its the only time I listen to that station.  I think the 92.3 the fan shows are all superior (with the exception of baskin and phelps) to anything on 850.  I mean Rizzo's show is terrible radio, that's why I was confused about its ratings.  They accomplish nothing, prepare minimally, eat food into the microphone. Its despicable

I love Baskin & Phelps. Smart and mature. I hate Kiley & Booms. Juvenile and offensive.

I like Emmet Golden on 850 a lot.  Not a big fan of anyone else there, have stuck to 92.3 for a while now.  Not a big fan of morning shows period.

I've gradually gone more and more to 92.3 and less and less to 850

Was he fired for bad mouthing Haslem and the Browns? Gotta admit I've not listened to this show in months. Kiley and Booms was a great national radio show....but that was YEARS ago. I don't know if talking Cleveland sports (Browns, Browns and Browns) 24/7 just brings the worst out of sports radio.

p.s. somebody said "Kiley and Levine." Les Levine is like the kiss of death for a radio show. He is to sports talk what Ted McGinley is to a sitcom. Les is so one dimensional that you have to fit in completely with his mindset; he generally has a terrible rapport with the callers.

I listen each morning only because of Kiley.  glad he is still there. They haven't chosen a replacement yet, so Levine is just speculation.  It would probably be wisest to move Carman to mornings and give LIma the night slot.

I also believe Chuck just made too many important people mad.  Phil Taylor got really mad at him a few weeks back, he has rubbed a lot of people within the browns the wrong way.  He constantly interrupts people and contributes no analysis regarding sports.  He is a stand up comedian doing a sports show.  At times funny, but overall kind of annoying to listen to.

I could never stand the sound of his voice, but he had grown on me from totally unlikeable to tolerable.

they should get rid of andy, have it les and phelps, and move ken to the morning show.

also, there should be two mid-day shows (10-12 and 12-2) instead of one 4 hour show

I can't picture Baskin and Phelps ever splitting up. To me their show is like pb&j...never amazing, but reliably okay. Those two have often been cheerleaders for downtown and RTA at times which is refreshing.

Then again, I have never quite been able to tell who was who haha. They're manner of speaking is just so similar.

Ken Carmen is perfect for the evening show. He's hilariously raunchy enough that he can say things after 10 p.m. that he couldn't get away with in the morning slot.

I like the idea of two 2-hour midday shows.

Absolutely obliterated the Rizzo show, which should be done.  His show is a bunch of lazy babble.  Writer is absolutely right, why change a format if these old timer NE Ohioans keep listening to the product?  Unfortunately it has devolved.  I do like Kiley and Carman though, whether its exciting radio or not, they prepare and its evident.  They follow an evolving format and they will make you laugh at times

I agree.  I much prefer Ken Carman in his original 7p slot for which he is a natural... I  really like the guy. He's a uniquely talented sports observer and a natural entertainer.  He's very funny (does he/did he do stand up?).  The proof of Carman's strength is that he's the only weekday host that could easily carry his own show without the usual buddy-buddy sidekick.  And his view of sports, esp locally, is generally spot on.  The problem I had with him sometimes is that after the first 1.5, 2 hours, he always seems to devolve into pop-culture silliness and raunchiness.  I'm no prude by any stretch and sometimes the pop culture stuff can be entertaining, but sometimes it wears on me, particularly when one of the local teams, esp the Cavs, were in the thick of an important juncture of their season...

When Carman's in shtick mode, he  seems like he's groping for a pop-culture topic and, of course, as boys-will-be-boys, the topic usually centers on the physicality of some female celeb, typically with a lot of banter with his producer Kenny Kidd; Carman and Kidd are naturals together; seemingly good friends even off the air ... I once caught Carman doing the CBS national gig on a Sunday evening, as Adam The Bull often does.  Ken was equally adept at speaking to, and entertaining, the national audience, and callers from around the country took to him right away... Dude is talented.

I like B & P.  Both are homers and have a longstanding friendship (since Kent State?) that makes them naturals... As for Cleveland boosters, none is bigger than Anthony Lima, though he can be a bit of a prick at times... He's devoted whole segments of his show to pumping the developments in downtown... UO'ers would have loved the segment he did, back during the Cavs playoffs, where he literally read some of the negative comments from Cleveland.com following every positive development news.  He, like me and many others on this board, was amazed at the constant negativity of so many residents toward Cleveland.  Lima's a proud Tremonter.

I love Ken Carmen, especially in the evenings when he gets a little more raunchy. Carmen is clever, unpretentious, intelligent, polite and yet raunchy -- all at the same time. Conversely, I absolutely hate Kevin Kiley -- he's a pompous, hollow, prickly jerk -- and he isn't even educational. He lacks any insights and seldom has a fresh viewpoint on things. So I can't listen to the morning show because of Kiley, despite how much I enjoy Carmen. I realize many more people listen to a morning show, so Carmen was "promoted." But his pairing with Kiley is a disaster.

^I don't like Kiley either and I despised his creepy, oft-bigoted ex-cohost Chuck Booms and was thrilled when The Fan canned his sorry arse.  Kiley and Carman are a bad match.  Ken's better off doing his own thing.

That's the thing about sports radio. The personality doesn't matter as long as they are talented at carrying the air. Kiley is very good at that and his pompous, condescending jokes are part of his schtick, which I find absolutely hilarious. His airtime is productive, he gives his analysis- whether agreed or not and prepares well for interviews. Conversely tony Rizzo doesn't prepare for anything and has dead unproductive air with food chewing, lazy interviews and the same takes every day

If how you say something makes me want punch you, it doesn't matter what you have to say.

Sports talk radio is as dead as local journalism. Evident by the God-awful writing in that Scene article. If they had a point, it was lost somewhere in the babble.

Rizzo gets by on natural talent, because he certainly doesn't look like he prepares whatsoever for his shows. He comes off as lazy.

The Lima and Carmen pairing has potential to be great radio.

Rizzo gets by on name recognition and his imprint in this community.  Kind of like Triv.  People around these parts will just listen to junk

While Goldhammer is annoying, he would at least fact check Rizzo on the Really Big Show. Now, Tony just makes stuff up, and his lack of preparation is evident. It is humorous to hear Jerod Cherry attempt to talk NBA or MLB, and mostly he falls back on his three Super Bowl rings. The show is unlistenable for more than a few minutes.

At least there are some great podcasts (WFNY comes to mind) out there for Cleveland sports fans.

That's how I feel about Bruce Hooley. Smart guy, good points, but his condescending tone and constant negativity about everything makes it so I can't listen to him, which if fine because I enjoy Bull and Fox during that same timeslot.

Aaron's entire life revolves around show prep. Rizzo's show took a big hit when Aaron moved to afternoons.

Agree with the Triv/Rizzo comparison; relying on their big personalities. That works great IF there's someone else there who is actually dialed in to what's going on.

There are no shows that are just fun to listen to.  none of the major personalities are that creative or funny and they all lean on calls and quarterback talk.

Radio is the most intimate form of media, and both stations just stick to analysis.

The Really Big Show used to be fun....ages ago.

Fun? I think Adam the Bull can be fun. Especially when he gets bad callers, you can just hear his voice dripping with disappointment!

I thought Ken Carmen was that, until he jointed up with A-hole.

Adam and Dustin can be fun, but when they start talking themselves into a depressing frenzy and to the ledge of the I-480 bridge, then I have to turn them off. Sometimes I'll tweet them and tell them they're going off the deep end.

Bull can be a little overbearing at times but is generally fun, especially when he picks fights with Dustin Fox calling him a nimrod.

I like Dustin enough. But his live reads are really terrible haha.

While this is the hot trending topic today, I'd like to:

1. Nominate Jeff Thomas for some kind of unsung hero award and

2. Say I really miss Kevin Keene's postgame shows that used to be on WTAM.

Jeff Thomas is awesome. He's like the Kenny Mayne of Cleveland sports reporters. Surprised no one (including me) has brought him up until now!

Yeah! Remember the WKNR 20-20 Ticker?

Thomas is solid with the updates... not a bad host, either.  He's likable.

Agreed. I can't listen to Chuck Booms without heaving. Hanford and Golic need to get a room. And Kosar should just remember and talk about the good ol' days -- if he still can.

Aaron Goldhammer just said that replacing Dwayne Bowe's locker with a toilet stall would be a better investment for the team.

Word is Kevin Kiley has resigned from 92.3 The Fan. Thank God! I found him insulting, arrogant, not entertaining and, worse, not informative. I really like Ken Carmen but I stopped listening to him when he was moved to the morning show and paired with Kiley. I'm looking forward to hearing Carmen again!

BTW, the reason for Kiley's departure likely stems from his sexist criticism of the Buffalo Bills' hiring of a female coach and pushback from advertisers...
