Posted May 17, 201114 yr My lease is up in July and I will not be staying at my current location. I would like some ideas on apartment/duplexes/other crazy living places on the westside or very near east side of Cleveland (city proper please, maybe Lakewood if it is GREAT). I would like to stay around $700 a month. I Need: Washer and Dryer In Unit/Building 2 Bedrooms I Want: A garage (I know) A city view So UO, have you lived or know of a place I should check out?
May 17, 201114 yr Ask bartenders/servers in Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. They typically know all of the good deals in an area.
May 17, 201114 yr Many of the Gold Coast apartment buildings in Lakewood offer a garage, a city view and two-bedroom apartments are pretty common there. Look for addresses on the north side of Edgewater (they will have even numbers). If you're interest, you will be looking at places like The Shoreham, Marine Towers West, Imperial House, and Twelve Thousand Edgewater. There are a few places in Cleveland's Edgewater neighborhood that have garages and views. One is the Clifton Park/Clifton House and another is Lake Edge Condominiums which also has some rentals, I understand. May 23, 201114 yr When I first moved back to Cleveland I lived in a fourplex at 2908 Jay Ave. that had most of what you're wanting -- though off-street parking instead of garage. Not sure who owns the place currently, as it was sold a couple years back. Maybe try Googling. You can't beat the location.
May 23, 201114 yr I find it interesting that when people come to this forum for help moving/relocating into Cleveland, the suggestions are almost always for Lakewood and Cleveland Heights. Even when they specify that they would prefer Cleveland Proper! (and yes I saw that this person would also consider lakewood if it was 'GREAT' but still....)
May 23, 201114 yr Well, we make suggestions based on what the person is looking for. If all they said was Cleveland city (proper) and they were completely open to price, amenities, etc, that's all people would recommend. People recommend what they think is best for the person based on what they have listed as to what they're looking for.
May 23, 201114 yr If they want a city view and a garage (plus the other stuff), it sort of limits their options to downtown or the Gold Coast. And where do I live ? ? ? "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
May 23, 201114 yr The city proper has very scant apartment offerings, compared with CH and Lakewood. And a lot of newcomers may not even realize these areas aren't in the city proper. They certainly don't look like suburbs, and a lot of recent development in Cleveland looks more suburban than they do. We live in a crazy mixed up world.
May 23, 201114 yr Scant apartment offerings? Downtown alone has reserve square, chesterfield, wt grant lofts, 668 euclid, the Bingham, bridgeview, stonebridge, e. 4th... I am sure I am missing a ton here Check those out jar
May 23, 201114 yr ^ at least from what I know, $700/month is't going to get you into those places. So why suggest somewhere that doesn't meet the criteria?
May 23, 201114 yr 700 barely gets you downtown at all. Maybe a studio in the Crittenden + garage. And when I said "scant" I made clear that I meant scant in comparison to those two other areas. A disproportionate amount of Cleveland's apartment stock lies outside city limits. Certain areas of the city are especially short on units, given the general demand. Ohio City and University Circle come to mind. If you're neither rich nor poor, you're even less likely to find something in-city that meets your needs. So, if someone really wants to be in Cleveland proper we're more than able to make recommendations along those lines. But if they have specific needs better met nearby, we can help with that too.
May 23, 201114 yr Are you telling me that $700 is going to get you a 2 bedroom with an in suite washer/dryer and a garage at gold coast ?
May 24, 201114 yr Thanks for all the replies. I am not looking downtown (proper). I have always lived in the Old Brooklyn or the Clark Metro area. Those neighborhoods have been good to me, but I want to explore other hoods. I guess it doesn't have to be an apartment building, I am open to duplex / quads / anything else interesting. I have a motorcycle, so the garage would be nice, but it isn't a deal breaker and I have done it for 2 years without one. I can also live with a 1 bedroom, but I real want an office.
