Well, more like a trip to the Terminal Tower observation deck - it dawned on me that I haven't been up there with my DSLR and it was the first sunny day in a long time. Unfortunately I had to go earlier in the day, so there was still a little morning fog/haze lingering. Ah well, can't win them all.

Great pictures. Thanks!

Awesome clarity/detail

Fantastic!

Cool to see the new Rosetta space atop the original National City building and the Stanley/Columbus demolition block.

Nice pictures!

Cleveland has a great downtown.

Just noticed this classic freighter. What a beauty!

There is just no beating the Great Lakes ports.

Excellent. The haze is only evident in the distance shots; for the nearer ones it diffuses the light enough to fill in the shadows and eliminate harsh contrasts.

Someone loves their telephoto. Great photos as always!

Great set!  I have a couple of questions:

1) What is getting built behind Key Tower in the first shot?

2) In the 6th shot from the top, is that the Flats East Bank?  It looks like there is a pretty good amount of residential over there..very impressive.  Are those projects in the background behind the freeway though?  I wonder how their presence effects more widespread development efforts in that part of the city.

3) I notice that Cleveland, like Cincinnati, really fucked itself over by hedging downtown in with freeways.  Again like Cincy, the sports arenas are bounded by a freeway on one side, which totally limits the development potential around them.

Downtown Cleveland is looking great! Kudos MayDay!

Thanks everyone!

edale:

1. That is the Convention Center and Medical Mart.

2. That's the Flats *West* Bank. Yes, those are projects - Lakeview Terrace, which were built in the 1930s when the river and lakefronts weren't a pleasant place due to heavy industry and pollution. If I had my way, they'd be leveled.

Great shots!  I stayed in town last night after the indians reds game.  It was my first trip to C-land and I am definitely coming back to stay longer soon.  We didn't have much time to play but we at least made it to Great Lakes brewery after the game.  Made for a kick ass night.    We watched what looks like that particular rather large tanker maneuvering through the cuyahoga as we walked across the Carnegie Ave bridge.  Did you take these yesterday Mayday?

Looks like Rosetta finished up the top of the old National City building.  I knew they were adding a top floor, but I didnt realize it would come over top of where the Marons live.

I mean those red beams have been there for quite some time (were evident in pictues from 2006), so I didnt know what they were initially for.

Got to be a Kick@$$ space for their offices.

Awesome shots, as usual, MayDay!!

Great Post! lol on the UO banner being towed.

Also does anyone know at what point in time was the side of the old NCB building painted white, or is that paint? I've always hated that.

What in God's hell is going on with that Sohio...BP...200...Huntington...makeover?!?!  A TRAGEDY!!!

Awesome pics!  I need to make it back up to the Obervation Deck as well!

Is there also an observation deck in the Key Tower?

^no

Thanks for the pics, MayDay. I especially liked the aerial updates of the various development projects including the medical mart/convention center, the Flats East Bank, the site for the Casino "Welcome Center" (including the collapsing roof on the 160+ year old Stanley Building), and the start of the new Inner Belt bridge (including the blast-out holes for the impending implosion of the cold storage building).

Fantastic shots.  I am going to have to spend at least another half-hour staring at all the details.

A couple of observations:

That green is awful.  Not a good match with 200 PS.

The Stanley Block seems to be in awful shape.  Another reason it should be sacraficed to save the Columbia.

One Cleveland Center needs a bath.

I can't wait to see the Federal Building in its new skin.  When is that supposed to start?

and the start of the new Inner Belt bridge (including the blast-out holes for the impending implosion of the cold storage building).

Here's to hoping that it is someway used in the upcoming Avengers movie.  That way it wont be just a little explosion, but a nive massive one!!

Great shots!!

In the Tower City Amp. pic, does anyone know the status of the old buildings to the left of the rail tracks?

Could be an amazing renovation project.

More observations:

- The bird’s eye view of Public Square really show how much useful space is wasted for vehicular traffic

- Prospect going east towards UC has a lot of potential

- The RRHOF look much more attractive from the air than it does from the ground

- Although not posted for that purpose, Robert’s side by side of the WHD really shows the TLC that neighborhood was given over the last two decades….. take a look at the white building on the corner for example

the fed courthouse tower has really turned into my fav of the new fed courthouses. some of them are generic and were repeated, but i think this one is unique.

also, really, really nice to see construction materials piling up on the flats east bank.

good work!

Totally agree!  Good God the Stanley is in bad shape.  It looks as if a stiff fart might blow that thing down....save Columbia!!

Check out the May addition of Properties Magazine.  There is a story on the new Rosetta space and it is very nice.

If I ever get back I need to check out the observation deck.. When I was younger I climbed the stairs to the top only to find a locked door with high voltage warnings... Of course all the doors locked behind me, so I had to climb all the way down to get out.
