Posted January 10, 200619 yr On a dreary January day, just let the sun go down... Started with a trip to the top of Carew, but I didn't take many pictures there because I already have pictures in better weather. (See http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4068.0) But I thought I'd at least provide aerial updates on Government Square and Fountain Square. To summarize: dirt. By the way, one of you locals needs to get up there with a tripod on a day when the observation deck is open until 7. (Saturdays and Sundays, maybe?) I'll bet you could get some great evening shots. Anyway, on to the night skyline, which is the subject of this thread. Well, after one bonus street shot. Actually, let me go back in time to last February, because I don't think I ever posted these couple of photos. Returning to the present, the first stop is over Fort Washington Way. And then the Suspension Bridge. The kings of the Queen City. And a stop in Mt. Admas for its view. Peek-a-boo! And could I leave you without a panorama? Of course not. Click it for the big one.
January 10, 200619 yr Thanks for posting these! It's harder to see the progress on Government Square when viewing it from street level. They are further along than I realized.
January 10, 200619 yr It's been about three weeks since they changed the lighted strip on top of the Chiquita building from white to green. I like it!
January 10, 200619 yr ^ Do they change the color regularly, and what colors do they use? I just noticed the lights are pink in my older photo. I like the green, too, especially because it's not a color seen elsewhere in the skyline.
January 11, 200619 yr Bravo. I like all your attention the the P&G towers, one of my favorite newer items in Cincy's skyline. Also, thanks for that close-up of the Carew, I didn't know the top was in Hamilton. :-) After seeing your shots of Ft. Washington Way, I hope that the banks does close off the middle sections between the faux bridges.
January 11, 200619 yr Wow...stunning! It's been about three weeks since they changed the lighted strip on top of the Chiquita building from white to green. I like it! I thought those lights changed with the forecast...like, white was snow, green was something, red was something, etc...
January 11, 200619 yr I always thought of PNC as a "queen" and Carew as a "king." And P&G being Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumbass. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 11, 200619 yr Thanks, everyone! Ink, I agree about FWW (well, we all probably do), not only to close the gap but also to cut down on the highway noise. Not that I haven't been around there plenty of times before, but this time I especially noticed how noisy it is because of the traffic. ColDay, king and queen makes more sense than having two kings, but it would have sounded odd in the phrase I used. Maybe I should have said "monarchs of the Queen City." And I thought of mentioning the "P&G boobs," but then decided to be a bit more classy... this time.

January 15, 200619 yr Wow...stunning! It's been about three weeks since they changed the lighted strip on top of the Chiquita building from white to green. I like it! I thought those lights changed with the forecast...like, white was snow, green was something, red was something, etc... Correct, the colors were relative to what the weather was like that day. Red-Warm, Blue-Cold, White-Snow, Green-Rain, I think there were a few others, but I don't remember. Several years ago there was a commercial for Channel 12 that had Tim Hedrick and some 1940's-type singers standing on top the Chiquita Center singing about what the different colors of the beacon meant. I've noticed, however, that the consistency of them lighting it up according to the weather has been sporadic for the past several years. They will go weeks or months with it just being white.
