May 29, 201114 yr My first roommate in USAF tech school (1962) was from Ashland, but I never knew much about the city. Apparently back then it was still an active city. Now there still are some good-looking buildings, but far too many upper storeys are boarded up. That bodes ill for the buildings, because it means nobody ever goes up there, and roof and other structural problems go undetected until sometimes it's too late to save the building.

May 31, 201114 yr At least this is being restored. Inside the first floor, you can see replicas of the moldings that were ripped off during the 1960s facade renovation. Former Ashland Oil headquarters before they moved to Russell in the 1970s. Still housed offices until the 1990s, and then it became a community college extension. It's almost entirely vacant (both buildings) and just recently sold for a mere $100k I believe. Lofts have been proposed for the corner building for about three years now. I think they are just waiting on funding. The city hall building is at least being renovated. The police station was crammed on three separate floors before the new facility opened across the street (fairly nice looking, IMO).
