I dig that little tower they got.

You know, if you told me those pictures were taken on a Sunday morning in the neighborhood of a big northeastern city, I would have believed you.

The architecture and the scale of most of those buildings is far beyond what I would have expected for a small town like Uniontown. Great photos!!!

Wow I have never heard of that town. Awesome looking place.

Impressive city. When I saw this:

I thought of Henry Hobson Richardson and the Allegheny County Courthouse and Prison in Pittsburgh:

Much more comprehensive than another Uniontown thread from a couple of years ago. This place is East Liverpool on steroids.

Wow I have never heard of that town. Awesome looking place.

The best part about Uniontown is driving into it on US40 from the east. If you like steep hills with awesome views, you will love that view of Uniontown. I drove that road in 1993 while taking the scenic route from Washington DC to Cleveland. Awesome drive.

EDIT: Google Streetview has the US40 hill descent (or climb!) in this area including the awesome view from the Historic Summit Inn Resort. I love the sign at the top of the hill that says "VERY STEEP GRADE NEXT 3 MILES"! But I am bummed to see that it's been turned into a divided, limited-access highway at the bottom of the hill. I remember coming down the hill and going right into town on mostly two-lane roads. Ah the good ol' scary days....

^I will have to do that one of these days. I would love to drive out to Pittsburgh and I guess I'd have to hit Uniontown on the way.

Another great drive is US250 from I-77/New Philadelphia, OH to Fairmount, WV where you can pick up I-79 and then to I-68 into Washington DC. If you like sharp turns and curves, US250 is sure to bring a smile to your face. If you have a sportscar or a motorcycle, so much the better!!

^ Fairmount and, more so, nearby Clarksburg, are -- like Uniontown -- small mountain cities that seem mcuh bigger than they are, with their historic towers.
