Thanks....

So who's up for Friday the 21st?  Let's get the ball rolling....

Don't do it on the 21st (a Friday). The Saturday and Monday papers are least read papers of the week and the Sunday paper is often laid-out days (and some portions weeks) in advance.

Go with a mid-week date. And you should do it earlier in the day rather than later because the paper's news hole will fill up quickly as the day goes along. Another reason is, if you want the TV/radio media to show up and report on the UO event the same day, then give them some time to hit the production studios to prepare their report for the evening news.

Lastly, cover your legal bases. Get a permit from City Hall for a protest on a public sidewalk.

nice letter Jeff...I guess, according to Dick, Milwaukee and Toronto are the only progressive cold weather cities.  Chicago, Boston, New York, Philly, Pittsburgh...what were they thinking.  Anyone mention to the folks out in Denver that it snows there when they built Coors Field?  Even Minneapolis is moving from "progressive" back to the "what, it's cold outside?" by having the Twins move out of the metrodome and into a new, outdoor facility next year.

That might have been he dumbest column I've ever read.

KJP, do you know what department handles those requests? Streets division of Public Services? Or is this a police matter?

I'm posting the first part of this article to counter that article from the DC area on page 12 of this tread. The rest is in the Cleveland Indians thread.

Indian summer returns to Cleveland

GM Shapiro stayed the course after last year's 78-84 record, and team could be headed for its first playoff berth in six years.

Baseball teams deliver this pitch from coast to coast: Build us a new downtown ballpark, and revitalize your downtown! Sellout crowds! Restaurants, shops and clubs springing to life nearby!

In Cleveland, it actually worked that way.

I think it would be through the police. But after checking around on the web, I'm not sure. Here's an idea: call Ward 16 Councilman Kevin Kelley. He'll probably have an idea, and after his impassioned speech Monday night, he might be willing to help you get the permit, organize the rally and even get more people to come to it.

Tell Kevin I said to call him. And tell him "Semper Fi" (as in U.S. Marines). He'll know what that means.

Sorry if this a stupid questions, but what happened Monday night?  I search around and couldn't find anything...

Akron arrows:

Bay Village native Patricia Heaton was in the guest chair on "Live with Regis & Kelly" last week, talking up her new Fox sitcom "Back to You." The show (which also stars Shaker Heights native Fred Willard) debuts at 8 p.m. Wednesday on WJW Channel 8.

The clip they aired of Heaton opposite co-star Kelsey Grammer was sitcom gold. But the biggest laugh came after a commercial break, when Regis Philbin told viewers that an audience member kept shouting that she was from Akron.

"You know what Cleveland's motto is," Heaton responded. "At least we're not Akron."

She didn't get her Cleveland+ pamphlet!!

Bitch. Maybe she should see Tripadvisor.com's most underrated destinations....

You know what my motto is, Patricia? "At least I'm not a right-wing cow Patricia Heaton."

so true! shes a fright

I got this message from Heather Kessen of Cleveland+ about working out potential volunteer opportunities. Her contact info is at the bottom. What do ya think?

Hello XXXXXX,

Your name was passed along to me through Rick Batyko with Cleveland Plus.

I would love to sit down with you to discuss the campaign and any suggestions you have or any potential volunteer opportunities you think would work with the UrbanOhio group.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in a meeting and if you will be in Cleveland anytime in the near future.

Best,

Heather Kessen

That's awesome! UrbanOhio love!

although did you know "best" is a passive -aggressive closing to a letter? either that or they are pompous. anyway congrats!

How so?

it is dismissive or pompous or passive aggressive or someone with an inferiority complex. not all those things, but generally at least one of the above. Whats funny is, I saw something about it in the Onion or NY times...and apparently who ever wrote it sees it the same way.

what about "best regards"

I haven't heard that specifically, but Sex and the City does a pretty detailed story on what it means when someone you're dating uses "best" in cards - that it indicates a distance and an unwillingness to be emotionally vulnerable with someone. My roommate and I laugh pretty frequently about lines like "Best is the worst" and "He might as well sign 'Not Love'" and "Richard continues to send his best" to this day.

exactly.

There's a sign at the West Side Market that says,

"our Wurst, is the best."

^That's cute.  Makes me hungry for a smoky.

So is she looking for volunteers?  Any idea what she needs people to do?  I'm curious and potentially interested.

Hey Everyone- recalling the original topic of this thread being promoting living in Cleveland to people from NY, I would like to ask you to check out the blog at http://blog.cleveland.com/cityliving/ and comment from time to time. Your opinions and comments are very helpful in shaping the work of our company, Cleveland City Living. It's hard for me to scan all of these blogs to get everyone's opinions, so if you have something to say/suggest regarding city living, I'd appreciate you hitting me up.

Thanks!

I guess she wants to meet to talk about ideas we can come up with to market Cleveland better. I don't believe she has anything concrete, just looking for ideas.

Chelsea Handler was on David Letterman-- There's a youtube clip of her and she said that being a comedian allows her to travel all over the U.S. to interesting places, like..Cleveland and St. Paul. It might have been sarcasm knowing her, but I don't think the audience took it that way regardless so oh well, Clevelanders rejoice :)

Besides, she's one of like three girls in hollywood with a personality.

Fast-forward it to about the second minute.

It's on the main page just slightly down from the top of the page under "News Releases". A scrolling bar say "What's new?" followed by four bulleted items. And then "No news is good news."

That's pretty embarrassing for them. Someone should call before Channel 19 launches an investigation into the staff person responsible.

^i'm finding nothing close to what you speak of..........screen shot?

scroll down until you see the picture of Jackson, then look at the scrolling news to the right. wait a second and you'll see it.

You can't see it if you are using Firefox.

HA!

I win.

8-)

yup that was my issue (ffox)

Huh, no mention of the Stark project or Flats West Bank.

Huh, no mention of the Stark project or Flats West Bank.

It like putting the cart in front of the horse.  We know the projects will happen, but have no final plans.  I wouldn't put a project on a marketing reel that has not legs to stand on.  Thats one sure way to stir up a communications nightmare.

Thought they could at least mention Stonbridge.  Also, nothing this time on the shoreway/boulevard...

Yeah seems they didnt mention things unless they are "official" somewhat, as opposed to the previous version.

Nothing on the Innerbelt, West Quad, VA consolidation, MOCA, not to mention many housing projects taking shape.  It's a good video, but they could put alot more big projects into it, and take out some of the smaller things.

Could it be that these are projects that Cleveland Development Advisors have played some role in directly? It didn't strike me as a video highlighting the full range of construction projects going on in Cleveland, and many neighborhoods were outright overlooked (any number of projects could have highlighted the renaissance occurring in Tremont, for instance, and many of these are well underway).

it wouldn't surprise me if "politics" or different relationships didn't play a large role.  Some of the developers may not have returned calls or provided information b/c that's how they operate, or they have a specific problem with the origanization or its people.  I'd hope this isn't the case, but, there seem to be quite a few diverging views and approaches in the Cleveland area.

Cool new video detailing some of the major development projects around town. Worth sharing with out-of-town friends....

Are you ok man??  You're usually quicker than this.

I just haven't had the time to read the forum.

So you have the newest posts at the top of your screen? I'm the reverse.
