August 4, 201113 yr Well, last I knew it would have been an uphill battle, and they hadnt made any real moves yet to initiate the process. I havent seen anything recently either way though.
August 4, 201113 yr I know they will likely that Forest City will lose historic tax credit for the Higbees building, but I think they knew that all along. The bridge was aproved by the planning commission, they did ask for it to look a little nicer, but I have not heard anything that says they will not proceed with it.
August 4, 201113 yr Neither have I. Im just saying there are many steps they would have to go through for this "bridge" to be allowed to be built, none of which to my knowledge they have proceeded with. The planning Commissions approval means little in regard to this process.

I just meant that they have an uphill battle and a schedule to keep, and I that I havent seen where they have made the required moves for this, which I'm maybe at least wanting to view as good news...?

There's the Free Clinic, a dingy old strip mall, and then this gigantic warehouse looking building that I'm talking about, right before you get into East Cleveland. So, with the two homes over at 108th & Magnolia possibly being razed and now the ZBT house on Bellflower probably being razed...that's 3 mansions in this historic area that we're going to lose. Despicable. The march goes on and on... Did the church get approval to demolish those two homes on 108th and Magnolia? Or am I thinking of a different demolition proposal? Here's an update...vote is tomorrow?? It would be better if more than the 10 parishioners from the Mt. Zion church weren't the only public there... The property is owned by the Medical Center Company (a non-profit energy provider for UH, Case, CMA, etc.) who is planning an advanced energy facility of the site.

August 19, 201113 yr While this may place some financially strain on the church this is very good news for this neighborhood and preserving its historic character. This area has some of the best homes in Cleveland. I hope the church can think more creatively in expanding its ministries but doing it within a historic framework.
August 19, 201113 yr It's not that I want to see this house demoed (it's pretty impressive from the street), but I'm still pretty wary about permanently freezing the circa 1900 suburban nature of this part of University Circle.

Indeed if there was some way to have a parking space next to each individual slot machine they would be in heaven. Don't even try to sell them on the fact that there are thousands of spaces located within a walking distance shorter than the average urban office worker tracks every day in all types of weather. I imagine most of these guys were developing suburban shopping malls in the past.

September 2, 201113 yr a sea of parking lots! I have always questioned the practicality of the preservation of just The Stanley Block surrounded by nothing but parking structures. The City owned parking structure never made money for Cleveland but somehow adding more parking will. Was losing The Columbia Building really necessary? Who uses The Old May Company parking structure? Is this structure full 24/7?
September 2, 201113 yr I think it's time to move on from the Columbia. It is a particularly bad chapter in the history book of how developers can convince Cleveland City Hall to sell out long term vision for short term cash.

KA Architects wins Adaptive Reuse Award for the Higbee Building from Cleveland Restoration Society & AIA Cleveland Honor in May of 2009 and now the Higbee Building runs the risk of losing its historic tax credits due to KA Architects designs to mar the original facade with the raised walkway/welcome center.
