Was planning to get a home security system. Could anyone recommend a good company/system? ADT and Gillmore pop up in my head, but only because I have seen their signs in front of houses. i don't know much about them. And recommendations or guidance would be appreciated! Thanks.

I use Gillmore, and I'm pretty happy with them. Their big sell is that they have local monitoring. Truthfully, I don't know that it makes a whole lot of difference (not like it takes a phone call longer to go across the country). I've had them come out a couple times to make updates, maintain the system (they took over the system that was in the house when I bought it), and they've always been very prompt and pleasant to deal with. Aside from the gentle prod to upgrade my system on occassion (due to some system limitation), they don't really push the sales side.

I use Residential Security Systems, which is also local.  A number of my neighbors do, too.  The system is pretty cheap (~$25/month) and they can usually get to your house for maintenance within a day or so of the call.  I've never had any complaints with them.

I use a German make called Deutscher Schäferhund.  Never had one break in.

How much are you looking to spend and what level of security do you want?

I use Comswitch. 100% local. The owner himself shows up if I ever need anything tweaked. He may not be taking new customers.

Blue Knight Security out of Euclid, ask for the owner, Rick.  He isn't big time, but he does quality and doesn't cut corners on anything.  Alot of companies give you a cheap install then rake you on the monthly bill.  He'll walk your house & point out all the potential ways people can get in and he's a former police detective

I've had great luck with Gilmore.  Call a guy named Allen there.  He is local and will come right out to give you an overview.  No high pressure sales to try to get you to add bells and whistles.  Tell him what you want and he will get it done.
