Fantastic to see Case Western Reserve will be welcoming it's largest freshman class EVER this fall...although kind of a weird story about an underclassmen who is afraid to leave campus.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Case Western Reserve University undergrads who were guaranteed access to on-campus housing now fear for their future living situation after the administration took back that promise to make room for their biggest incoming freshman class yet.

A decision that had Zeraat and her friends worried for their safety.

“The university is very adamant that campus is the safest place for students, explained Zeraat. “Because we have campus police and they are walking around all the time and at night to make sure people are staying safe.”

That's been a constant for at least 40 years, you can always find a few.

Are there any current CWRU students on this forum? Perhaps recent grad @tykapsknows? Anyway, I will be teaching a session of the Beer Brewing class which has been brought back for the short May term.

Are there any current CWRU students on this forum? Perhaps recent grad @tykapsknows? Anyway, I will be teaching a session of the Beer Brewing class which has been brought back for the short May term. You can tell an engineer named the course - ECHE330/430 Design and Production of Fermented Beverages. The class runs from May 15 - June 2 (I think it's 9:30-12:30 each day), so if you're hanging around the area and looking for an interesting and easy engineering credit, please sign up! I'm pretty sure all majors are welcome, both undergrad and graduate students. I'll be teaching the "Automation in the Brewing Industry" session on May 24. They are also doing a couple field trips to local breweries as part of the class. In addition to beer, one session will be on wine making and another on distilling. Professor Chris Wirth (info below) is the best person to ask any questions about the class.

Please join us this summer for an exciting course on beer brewing and fermented beverages! ECHE330/430 (Design and Production of Fermented Beverages) will be a summer course during the May term. Learn from local professionals and take brewery tours while gaining a technical overview of the manufacturing process. No prereqs, just a love for designing craft products!

Contact Prof. Chris Wirth ([email protected]) for details.

Total: 12,266

To put this undergraduate growth in perspective…

Undergraduate Enrollment every 5 years:

2020: 5,430
2015: 5,121
2010: 4,227
2005: 3,949
2000: 3,434
1995: 3,429
1990: 2,799

This also equates to more graduates by shear numbers staying in the greater Cleveland area.

A side story that isn’t really being talked about, Cleveland State hasn’t recovered since COVID era began, and is currently sitting at 14,118 students.  CWRU is on pace to surpass CSU within the next several years as Cleveland metro’s largest 4-year college, unless CSU can figure out how to grow again.

I love that Case is growing and is a great resource for the region... but I HATE that CSU can't get things together.  CSU could be so much more to the region than it currently is in terms of having a growing student population staying and contributing to the local economy (different thread).

Building more dormitories will probably help bring in more out-of-town students.  The local day-hop pool may be tapped out.
