Lawmaker quits after drunken-driving scandal

Veteran legislator says he must think of family, district

By Darrel Rowland, THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

An embattled Cincinnati-area state representative quit yesterday afternoon, caught up in controversy after being arrested for drunken driving in Indiana with a stripper in his car and Viagra in his system.

By making his resignation effective Aug. 2, Robert Mecklenborg (R-Green Township) ensured himself that he will be paid for all of July; if he had quit this month, his legislative salary would have been prorated.  He also gets a bit more from the state retirement system.

So the Dispatch doesn't shy away from mentioning Viagra. It was interesting that the Enquirer was willing to whitewash their sensationalism for that aspect of the story. Even their article on his resignation makes no mention of Sildenafil on the toxicology report.

Are they covering for him, or do they think it's beneath them? They have no problem with mentioning the young woman, nor his refusal to identify her or explain her presence. Though they do not identify her as a stripper, as the Dispatch does!

Would a Democrat in hot water receive the same treatment from the Enquirer?

This story reminds me of the new Stephen Malkmus song: http://whatdoesthesenatorwant.com/

Ha ha, this is the kind of stuff that used to go on all the time but was never reported.
