Looks like work is about to begin:

"CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland is set to begin a $3.9 million renovation of Public Auditorium, with the contract calling for completion of work in time for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction week ceremonies in April.

But the investment is not geared solely to festivities that return to Cleveland just once every three years. City officials want to raise the sagging profile of the 89-year-old building and attract more concerts and other gatherings...."

The six-year agreement, which begins with the 2024-25 season, requires the Charge to make $3 million in improvements to the facility and also pay for labor during each game. The work includes architectural and design improvements to existing locker rooms, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.

Those renovations will begin this summer. In exchange for those improvements, the city will credit rent and labor costs up to $1 million over the term of the agreement. "Any building we play in needs to be at G League standards from a basketball standpoint, so that's going to be the main focus of our investment" said Mike Ostrowski, president of franchise properties for Rock Entertainment Group.

It is a 34 game schedule,so there will be 17 home games for the Charge at Public Auditorium.

I am glad that Public Auditorium will be renovated.  I have many fond memories of it from my childhood in the 60's.  My dad used to take us to the Sport and Boat Shows every year.  And we took my daughter to the circus there around 1990.

But, this is an odd venue for basketball.  The seating is about 10 to 15 feet above the court level.  I wonder if seating is going to be added on the floor level.  Should be interesting to see when the first game is played.

It's not an ideal venue for basketball, but it should be OK for a G league team that will most likely be playing before small crowds.  During the Kevin Mackey era, before the Convocation Center (aka Woltein Center) was built, the CSU Vikings played some games there when a significant crowd was expected.  I'm pretty sure they added floor level seating.
