Posted July 23, 201113 yr I'm looking for some open basketball courts in Cleveland... Eastside please. Doesn't necessarily have to be in city proper. I found some in Woodland Hills Park. Are these good and safe? I know there are also some at East 30th and Woodland. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mike
July 23, 201113 yr Cain Park in Cleveland Heights has some courts. Same with Denison, but that would be farther away. The courts at Cain Park are right near the corner of Taylor and Washington. The neighborhood is safe. Not sure about the courts at 30th and Woodland.
July 23, 201113 yr ^^The rec center would cost something to get in. I don't know what non-resident fees are. I honestly don't know if Cumberland courts.
July 23, 201113 yr Not sure if they're safe (most here on the board wouldn't consider it to be very safe), but I usually see a lot of games going on at Luke Easter Park's Courts (on MLK boulevard, just north of Kinsman) on Sunday afternoons. I've also heard there's pretty good competition at the Multiplex (indoor) in Warrensville Heights, http://www.multiplexohio.com/index.htm
July 23, 201113 yr The multi-plex leagues can be overwhelmingly talented. Lots of current and former NBA and college players hoop there. I think I read this week that Lebron James played there recently. I don't know about the courts themselves, but I would not consider the general area around MLK and Kinsman to be safe.
July 23, 201113 yr Back when I was in high school and college, I used to play at Coulby (near Wickliffe/Euclid border) and Euclid Creek (aka The Creek). Coulby was closer to me and there were usually decent games there, but Euclid Creek was more consistent and had some very good players (a few D1 guys would play up there). I know there's courts at Cumberland (or at least used to be) because some of the guys would talk about playing up there. Safe is obviously a relative term, but I found that it felt safer the better the games were (people were more serious about playing and cared less about getting into trouble). Obviously, it helps out a lot to not be looking for a fight or be overly cocky or talk trash.
August 31, 201113 yr it would be cool if the parks or someone put up something near downtown like 'the cage' or 'the rucker.' with a set of bleachers and maybe some electronic signage. it could attract a following like the x games did and bring in some streetball tournaments on a more regular basis.
