Posted July 30, 201113 yr It certainly is no Bloomington, Madison, Ann Arbor...or even Columbus. Poor, poor PA.
July 31, 201113 yr The campus architecture and environment look decent but not particularly inspiring, but the downtown doesn't look all that bad, especially when compared with a lot of other towns that size that don't have college campuses. Did you happen to stop at Boalsburg, on the eastern edge of State College? A visit to the military museum there, especially the historic memorials to individual soldiers in the park, was a moving experience for me.
July 31, 201113 yr I wouldn't expect Madison or Ann Arbor because they're so much larger, but I do have to say it's not what I was expecting. Bloomington beats this handily. Athens does too (not that they're much alike other than heavy drinking). It does look like a nice college town, just kind of quiet and conservative, which is weird considering it's known as a party school.
July 31, 201113 yr Where's the picture of the Penn State student throwing up (or peeing) in the bushes. Had to be many opportunities for that shot if their rep is accurate.
July 31, 201113 yr ... just kind of quiet ... Where's the picture of the Penn State student throwing up (or peeing) in the bushes... It's summer break
August 1, 201113 yr Were you in West Halls? That is the most beautiful part of campus. It's the older, more classic looking part of campus and even the frat houses are gorgeous. You must have missed that part because you probably would have had photos of it if you saw it. I was a little disappointed with the downtown architecture when I first started going down there, but there are a few sections that are pretty nice. It does look like a nice college town, just kind of quiet and conservative, which is weird considering it's known as a party school. Don't let looks fool you. I avoid driving down College Ave when I'm there on weekends because the place is a madhouse.

August 1, 201113 yr It's beautiful. My girlfriend gave me the library tour, and then she gave me the west tour and I remember telling her "this is the Penn State I was looking for."
August 1, 201113 yr State College is alright. Bellefonte down the street annihilates it. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 2, 201113 yr State College is alright. Bellefonte down the street annihilates it. I second that.
August 3, 201113 yr State College is alright. Bellefonte down the street annihilates it. Bellefonte is absolutely gorgeous. It's nothing like anything I have ever seen. I keep meaning to get down there to photograph the town. I'll have to do it soon.
