Posted July 31, 201113 yr Take any small town, add two similar 1930's art deco towers and a major cereal company and you've got Battle Creek. Kellogg Closed cereal museum
July 31, 201113 yr Looks clean and well-kept, with an attractive waterway and some good landmark buildings. That street reconstruction has to be very hard on those businesses.
July 31, 201113 yr Ink--thank you for the great look at this Michigan city! If possible, please keep us posted as to the reconstruction progress--it's obviously been a huge and disruptive experience for everyone there. BTW, those two 1930s art deco towers are so handsome that I wish both of them could be airlifted and dropped into place somewhere along 7th St. in Cincinnati. (Do you think the citizens of Battle Creek would mind?)
August 1, 201113 yr It seems like a more intact version of Jackson. There is a resemblance with the architecture and linear main street, but Jackson has a much larger historic built environment with six midrises. Battle Creek is healthier, of course.
August 1, 201113 yr I dig it. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 1, 201113 yr Strange, this city reminds me of a Twilight zone or maybe Outer Limits episode where everyone in a town mysteriously and suddenly disappeared.
January 25, 201213 yr I absolutely LOVE the fact there's a Battle Creek thread! My parents were both raised there, and that was where both sets of my grandparents lived during my youth. We took my mother back there for a milestone birthday a couple years back, and I took a handful of photos. My camera pretty much stunk at the time, but these might give some additional insight into how downtown BC looks. In particular, those Art Deco towers have stunning interiors.
August 7, 201212 yr Battle Creek seems like an interesting place. I had the pleasure of seeing the city on the train from Detroit to Chicago. Looks like downtown is going through a big dig. Too bad that Cereal City USA attraction closed.
August 7, 201212 yr I have always liked those two art deco towers in Battle Creek. Luckily they're not in Springfield.
