August 5, 201113 yr Awesome. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 5, 201113 yr A great post--the combination of excellent photos & informative statistics is a real eye-opener as to how America's greatest city handles its humongous daily transportation needs, in and off the island. And your numerous other posts (especially on the massive New Jersey transportation infrastructure) have provided a real education to this armchair traveler. The only downside to what you're accomplishing is that many of us Midwesterners are going to end of hating both NYC and NJ--namely because of our own envy and jealously... (Keep up the pressure, though--it only hurts for a few moments!)

August 5, 201113 yr Thanks for the invitation, Nexis4Jersey! Your photography and commentary in chronicling some of the extensive rail lines (both passenger and freight) that intersect New Jersey have really changed my perspective about the importance of the Garden State. Truly, NJ seems to be the backbone of the vast NYC transportation empire.
NJ is the feed for NY and half of the Northeast. All Pennsylvania , Upstate NY West of the Hudson , and Southern NJ lines feed into certain points and into NY or Philly...whether its Freight or Passenger it all feeds into a Major city and NJ is an Interchange state. In the Future Connecticut will become interchange state with lines going into NY , MA & RI. Most lines in NJ feed into Hoboken for Passenger service or Newark for Freight.....future wise this will stay the same. In Southern Jersey , Philly is the feeding hub for Passenger and Freight.
