April 7, 20223 yr Better use for the space than a parking lot: German Village Commission approves Cameron Mitchell's new restaurant patio “Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ new German Village restaurant will have nearly triple the patio space of its predecessor. Plans for that outdoor space were approved Wednesday by the German Village Commission, which praised the proposed design for its ability to keep the pedestrian feel along South 3rd Street. The Columbus restaurant group is converting the former G. Michael’s Bistro & Bar space at 595 S. 3rdSt. into a new fine dining Italian restaurant. It could be open before the end of the year. The small, six-space parking lot that had been used by the previous restaurant will be converted to a patio, bringing the restaurant’s outdoor dining area to more than 1,800 square feet. The original G. Michael’s patio was only around 600 square feet.“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/04/07/commission-approves-cameron-mitchells-new-german.html

July 19, 20222 yr First Look: Modern Duplex in Schumacher Place “Columbus Street west of Parsons Avenue features a mix of building types, ranging from modest single-story houses to larger historic homes to 1960s-era apartment buildings. The latest addition to the block, though, stands out from all of them. Construction work recently wrapped up on a new duplex at 509-511 E. Columbus St. The building, with its steep-pitched roof and third-floor roof decks, brings a distinctly modern look to Schumacher Place.” https://columbusunderground.com/first-look-modern-duplex-in-schumacher-place-bw1/

Parking it directly in front of your house isn’t going to stop it from being stolen though.

Sometimes you can park right outside sometimes you'll be a 2 minute walk up the street. If it's that important to someone to be able to see their car from their living room, they'll get a place with a driveway. Or you can always just never leave your home during the times when street parking gets busy, that's always an option as well. Edited July 21, 20222 yr by TIm

The same thing happens in many popular suburban style apartment complexes. I lived in a couple in the Grandview area, and if you didn't get home by a certain time you would end up being forced to park wherever you could find a spot, often on the opposite side of the complex from your unit. Weekends were the absolute worst.
July 21, 20222 yr People forget that streets are public space, not private parking lots. No one is entitled to a spot right in front of their house regardless if we're talking urban or suburban/rual areas. I have no idea how being able to park closer to one's home somehow lessens the chance of it getting stolen and that doesn't seem like the real objection to me. I think people just don't want to walk.

Weekends were the absolute worst. I had that same issue when I lived over near Bethel. If I went out during peak times I often had to park around the corner at my complex where I could not see my car from my apartment. It was honestly a huge factor in why having private parking was a must have when I moved. I wasn't a fan but there wasn't anything to do about it other than move. Now I have a shared driveway between a few other townhouses and we get to deal with people using our driveway as a parking lot to go to the park. There's always some kind of issue! EDIT: And here we are 7 hours later and some stranger is parked in my neighbors spot, likely went to go visit the park. Edited July 21, 20222 yr by TIm

August 15, 20222 yr Whimsical Suspended Sculptures Find Permanent Place in Schiller Park The suspended sculptures that were on temporary view and located in several locations throughout Columbus were so popular that once their time was up, many were asking how a permanent collection could be added to Schiller Park. “Suspension: Balancing Art, Nature, and Culture,” a traveling sculpture series by Polish painter and sculptor Jerzy Kedziora, was only supposed to be on view in Columbus for five months, from October 30, 2019 through March 1, 2020, but the pandemic changed that. Columbus ended up having the twenty-three sculptures on view into the summer of 2022. Many people enjoyed the sculptures, and it was something that felt safe to explore and experience during the pandemic. Schiller Park has always enjoyed thoughtful pieces of public art and beautiful gardens thanks to the members of Friends of Schiller Park. September 8, 20222 yr Pizzuti Cos. starts construction on delayed Schumacher Place Giant Eagle redevelopment, now dubbed Jaeger Square “Pizzuti Cos. has started site work on the redevelopment of the Schumacher Place Giant Eagle, a project that prompted vocal pushback from its neighbors. The mixed-use project, now called Jaeger Square, will be located where Schumacher Place, German Village and Merion Village meet. The project, at 280 E. Whittier St., got the city's official sign-off in July 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2024. The project faced pushback at every step of the approval process. Neighborhood residents said they felt the building was too big for the site. Some opponents compared the proposed development to a whale. It was an older lady, and she shouted, "are you likin' it? or hatin' it?" I answered, "liking it? I'm lovin' it! I love whales!" She just threw her hands up in the air and goes "argh"! And then proceeded to turn around and go inside! 😂🤣 (btw her house was one of the ones that had multiple yards signs up against the project lol) Anyways- here's the picture i was taking when all this was goin' down

I think this will bring us up to, like, 8 food halls open or planned for the area? Food hall coming to Schumacher Place “Kreais Cos. is rehabilitating the buildings at 364-368 E. The pandemic delayed some aspects of the project.” Do we know anything else about this project? ”The developer also has a multifamily project in the works on Taylor Avenue near OSU Carepoint East.
