October 1, 2024Oct 1 This is within German Village - it will be shot down for being too tall. Didn't German Village get an exemption to Zone-In? Per Zone-In, this strip would allow for a 4 story building. GV would still have a say in architectural stylings.
October 1, 2024Oct 1 Not on Livingston, if the map online is correct. It's zoned as Urban General 1, max of 4 stories and 48 feet

New 55-Unit Residential Development Planned in German Village From this proposal, it would be removing 251 E Livingston which appears to be a non-historic building. For additional context, 1920 is probably not accurate. The decade years of 1900, 1910, 1920, etc. are used as stand-ins for the actual build dates for many Columbus buildings constructed in the 19th and early 20th centuries. A lot of property records were lost in the 1921 courthouse fire, so they just kind of estimate now. The estimates can be off significantly, from my experience.
October 3, 2024Oct 3 That's true in Cincinnati as well. I don't know if it was one event there or just a lack of recordkeeping before a certain date.

It just seems like all cities had a massive fire around that time haha

Hopefully the south side of Livingston will fill in with retail/restaurant.

The highway is sunken and that doesn't deter folks at Katzingers from eating outside. There's also plans to cap the bridge and you can have the hotel along the highway to insulate sound. There's also multiple bars in the Short North that literally go over 670 a few other on Park St that does not deter folks from eating and drinking outside.

It sure deters me from eating at places like Katzingers, but also the fact that they aren't that great also deters me. I know plenty of people are happy to sit next to a highway and suck down exhaust fumes, it's the American way. But I personally don't enjoy it.

November 22, 2024Nov 22 Here's an article last year from NBC 4 that has larger caps due to City of Columbus kicking in an extra $25 million to cap High St, 3rd and 4th street. I believe the aerial rendering is an earlier version. Either way, I agree with everyone it sucks eating next to a highway, would love to see it capped and made a tunnel completely.

Still strange that high wouldn’t also be capped with actual retail/restaurant space. If anything the high design should be used on fourth and then high, front and third should all have retail cap.
November 23, 2024Nov 23 Pizzuti Cos.' German Village-area development now leasing ahead of spring completion Pizzuti Cos.' Jaeger Square project is leasing ahead of its spring opening. The 261-unit apartment development is located at 850 Jaeger St., at the intersection of Schumacher Place, German Village and Merion Village. The development is terraced, rising to 4.5 stories closer to the commercial corridor and 3.5 stories closer to the existing homes in the neighborhood. Pizzuti Cos. has been working on this project for years, getting Columbus City Council approval in 2021 and starting construction in 2022. The building replaces a former Giant Eagle. Residents originally opposed the project, saying it was too big for the former grocery site. Pizzuti Cos. scaled down the project and changed the original design in response to resident feedback. November 27, 2024Nov 27 Project Update: Jaeger Square They included an old photo of before. The fact there are people that would rather have the giant eagle is a disgrace. Leasing has begun at Jaeger Square, the 261-unit mixed-use development that has been taking shape at the corner of Whittier and Jaeger Streets for the last two-plus years. residents could be moving in as soon as February, according to representatives of The Pizzuti Companies, the Columbus-based developer that spearheaded the project. A new development of this size in a location such as this – in the Schumacher Place neighborhood, but right on the eastern boundary of German Village and surrounded by existing housing on all sides – is a pretty rare event in Columbus, and the path from proposal to completion has been a long one.

I would've LOVED a Trader Joe's but understand there's no way a store was going in this development. Hopefully we're able to get cool shops and additional dining places.
