[*]What do you consider inexpensive? [*]Do you belong to a loyalty program [*]Best site is always to book on the brands site. That is generally true for Airlines and Hotels.
August 21, 201113 yr id go with club quarters at 17th and Chestnut. It is about as affordable as you'll get here and it is in a great location and good quality.
August 21, 201113 yr There is a Doubletree that is not exactly city center but is usually very affordable (I've stayed there for rates in the low 100's routinely). It's also kind of cool because it's an old, round apartment building so every room is a small suite with balconies. Some have great views of the Museum, etc.
August 21, 201113 yr as inexpensive as possible without being a dump. around $100......if theres something a lot better for a bit more id be willing to spend extra. club quarters is the one i was looking at on expedia, seems to be fine looking at reviews. i forgot to mention im going via amtrak so if there are any hotels that offer amtrak discounts i'll look into those
August 21, 201113 yr I apologize CTowns--it was actually the Embassy Suites that i was thinking of not the Doubletree (Hilton brands confused....) Here is the website for that property: http://embassysuites1.hilton.com/en_US/es/hotel/PHLDTES-Embassy-Suites-Philadelphia-Center-City-Pennsylvania/index.do

It's nice, great location, easy access to transit, and the most affordable option in Center City.
August 22, 201113 yr I'll give you one to AVOID - Travelodge Center City - it's on the back side of the convention center (facing the very active loading docks if you have the misfortune of staying there when a convention is loading in or out) and next door to some Catholic drop in center for the homeless. Not a pleasant experience. I think last time I stayed at the Sheraton at Logan Square which was nice enough for under $100 on Priceline.

Ive been inside these but not stayed. The Doubletree on Broad The Embassy Suites on Ben Franklin Parkway The Sheraton on 17 Street The Courtyard across from City Hall on Penn Street. Hyatt a Penns Landing * Omni * Sheraton Society Hill * *= can be hit or miss in regards to price due to location. these are properties I've walked past A Holiday Inn on 13/Walnut Hampton Inn on Race behind The Four Points on Race Hilton Garden Inn on Arch I say Check www.spg.com or www.hilton.com or any other brand site and www.travelzoo.com (which if you find a special will take you to the brands site to book)

They have frozen yogurt. IIRC, all their flavors come in either IC or FY. The Fleetwood sized Coffee Jolt & the Wasabi Banana Coconut is de-lish.
August 22, 201113 yr sounds good except it doesnt really go with nodding head beers and cheesesteaks It does. Trust me it does! Whats your preferred Philly Cheesesteak venue?
August 22, 201113 yr speaking of the beer, bob & barbara's is my favorite south st philly dive bar, but there are plenty of great pubskis: http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/news-and-opinion/cover-story/phillys_top_50_bars-38465689.html
August 22, 201113 yr Maybe this should go under cultural blasphemy, but the Philly cheesteak is over-rated. If I want steak-ums and cheez wiz on a doughy white bread bun, I can make it at home. Weak.
