Posted September 1, 201113 yr This area encompasses about a dozen neighborhoods just NE of Downtown across the river. There are a handful of different commercial streets of varying lengths, so I've only gotten to a couple major ones so far: 13th Ave NE and Central Ave. Central Ave The southern end is mainly industrial and does not tie in well with 13th Ave NE which is just southwest. Aside from that stretch which could use help, further north you get a handful of blocks of no-frills commercial buildings housing a variety of ethnic markets, restaurants, a setback Walgreens (boo!), dollar store, barber shops, a nice co-op grocery store, etc. Despite not being much to look at, there are a couple of nice infills with three-story apartments with first floor retail. This is entirely oriented towards daytime uses: I didn't see any late-night establishments so this is for shopping needs and eating out, not drinking espressos, seeing live bands, or heading out for a bar crawl (that would be done on 13th). Logan Park Centered around, what else, Logan Park, this neighborhood has a few nice streets, but there's vinyl everywhere and even some of the homes facing the park are very ho-hum. There are few brick structures here and from what I've seen some are quite ugly. Still, streets are well-kept and occupied despite the less than ideal housing infrastructure. 13th Ave NE This is a five-block stretch of live music joints, restaurants, bars, coffeeshops and a record store where empty storefronts reigned.

September 2, 201113 yr i only made it to st. anthony, nice to see further out. very tidy and livable as is the whole of the twin cities. ya gotta love rehabbing an empty strip into a nightlife node. or an anythinglife node for that matter.
September 2, 201113 yr i just remembered something from my twin cities trip -- fyi there is an 1887 flats style bridge on the river at st. anthony falls built by king bridge company, cleveland, o. -- that was very surprising to walk by!
