  • First post in this thread in 14 years... but I figured it's the appropriate venue.   Congratulations to my dad's alma mater, the Padua Bruins. Their women's volleyball team won the Louisvill

  • Actually this is quite the norm.  Ohio, Wisc, Minn, and Nebraska are womens volleyball breeding grounds.  The Big Ten, followed by the Pac 12, are the nations premier college volleyball leagues.  Scho

I'm pissed about the Super Bowl.  I wanted the Eagles to win.

POPE...I heard the Tigers signed Ordonez.

^yeah, expect a press conference sometime today or tuesday

Crosstown Shootout = Always a bigger game for X

That was one of the sloppiest basketball games I've seen in a while.

i just heard the nhl players have agreed to a salary cap, but their season will still be cancelled

So whose this Gene Smith guy Ohio State just signed as Athletic Director?

I don't know anything about Gene Smith except that he's coming from Arizona State.

man i crapped myself today when the buckeyes knocked off illinois......all for naught, but still awesome

Me too.  I only watched the last 2 minutes of the game.  Luckily, it was the best 2 minutes.

ultimate rumor of the week, bill laimbeer will be the cavs GM

It's a good day to be a Buckeye (though it sucks that the Lady Bucks lost to Minnesota in the second round of their tourney)

Paxson is on the outs?

I'd think that everyone would be happy with the Cavs so far.

HELL YEAH!!!!!

OU is going to the NCAA tournament!!!

So I'm rooting for the original OU (not the one out west with the Columbus backcourt  :x), the Gangsta-cats, Fighting Quakers, one of the 50 variants of Wildcats (in this case, Villanova), and one of the 30 variants of Tigers (in this case, Louisana St) through next weekend.

Gangsta Cats?

Gangsta Cats?

Let's just say I'm not talking about Kentucky.

If you are talking about UC, they have no "gangstas".

The "Gansta Cats" will exercise their second round demons this year at the expense of UK

OU vs. Florida...today at 12:25....

GO BOBCATS!!!!!

My Prediction:  UC  132  -  UK  35

I wish!  Man, that's going to be a good game.

And then there were none from Ohio.

Other than OSU's female b-ball team.

didn't see this one coming, (reposted from coffe talk b/c i'm an idiot)

CLEVELAND -- Paul Silas was fired as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday with his team fighting for a playoff spot after being in first place earlier in the year.

Silas told The Associated Press he was called in Monday morning for a brief meeting with general manager Jim Paxson and new owner Dan Gilbert.

"They released me," Silas said. "They didn't think the team was performing as well as it should be and they wanted to make a change."

Despite having league superstar LeBron James, the Cavaliers have struggled since the All-Star break, losing seven of 10 and nine straight road games, including Sunday's 105-98 loss to Toronto when James scored a franchise-record 56.

The team also fired Silas' son, assistant coach Stephen Silas. Assistant coach Brendan Malone will be the interim head coach.

The Cavaliers are interested in Cleveland native Flip Saunders as the possible successor to Silas, league sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein. Since his firing in Minnesota, Saunders has said he plans to sit out the rest of this season, but his ties to the city and his lengthy experience coaching another star player out of high school -- Kevin Garnett -- have Cleveland's attention.

Information from ESPN.com senior NBA writer Marc Stein and The Associated Press was used in this report.

I found a site on the newt named OHIO SPORTS. It is a message board. It says it was closed but now is open.

so the columbus destroyers arena football team is 1-13 this year.

i bet nationwide arena is haunted by all the prisoners that died in the old state pen.

it seems like any team that uses the place is terrible, and the other columbus teams are good or at least decent

anyone know when Browns tix go on sale???  or the best place to get them?  I haven't been to a game in so long, I'm afraid I'm in for some sticker shock...what are they going for these days anyways?

While in Vegas I placed my bets for the Bengals to . . .

1. Win the AFC, and

2. Win the Super Bowl

First time betting on sports futures but I had fun.

Wasn't the Vegas over/under on Bengals wins 7?  Taking the over on that looks like a really good bet.

(ok...stop laughing.  I'm serious.)

The only thing Caesars Palace - where I went - was taking bets on (At least I think that was the case as I really was unsure what I was doing.) was Super Bowl and AFC and NFC Champions.  The odds for the Bengals to win Super Bowl was 28/1 the afternoon I was there and 12/1 to win the AFC.

That's pretty hilarious to think of the Bengals winning the AFC...let alone the whole thing!  I'm picking them to lose 16 straight, starting with an embarassing loss to the Browns in week one!

I can't be that cynical about the Bengals anymore, not with the train wreck on the northshore that I once cheered for and cared about...15 years ago.

how could you cheer for one and then change to the other???  It's like rooting for the Red Sox and then deciding...oh wait, I actually like the Yankees!  Just Ohio-style.  I'm more curious than anything...not really offended (yet!)

I don't actively root for the Bengals, nor do I actively hate, or disparage the Browns.  I'm just apathetic towards both now. Where is I used to care about the Browns and laugh at the Bengals.  Circumstances have arisen that prevent me from doing that now.  :-(

I had no problem going from a Browns fan to an anti-Browns guy when the team left.  I moved to Cincinnati in January, 1997, so I was there for all of the horse shit - "diminished skills" and "I had no choice" - but not there for bringing the team back and all that excitement.  Of course, I never picked up a corresponding love of the Bengals - I'm more anti-NFL generally.

But to me, the Reds/Indians "rivalry" is just nonsense.  There's no history between the teams - I don't believe they ever played each other outside of exhibition games prior to 1997.  Aside from that, there's the Ray Fosse/Pete Rose incident in 1970, a couple interleague series, and that's about it.  Cleveland has more of a rivalry with Kansas City than they do with the Reds.

I slid into Reds fandom pretty easily - by 1999 I was in love with both teams, and since then, I just try to look away when they play each other.

I hope you are joking Mister Good Day and I hope that statement is lined with sarcasm . . . No way will we not win any games!

Anyway, I fully expect at least a winning season and I think you'll hear grumblings not really heard in the last two years if that is the case.  But when you look at the schedule I really think 9-7 or better is achievable.

If we perform well on all eight homes games, then I think we will be in good shape.  I think the tougher teams the Bengals will face outside the Division are all at home – Minnesota, Green Bay, and Indy.  I think the first six weeks, four of which are on the road, are critical.  If we can come home on Oct 23 in Week 7 to play Pittsburgh with a winning record then I think a 9-7 record is not out of the question.  Play well early and I believe it will carry us through to the playoffs!  I have different season ticket seats this year so I'm looking forward to it.

At least I hope . . . ;)

From my optimistic standpoint: Bengals will go 9-7, landing them in either second or third place in the AFC North depending on the (fucking) Raven's success.

Pessimistic (Realistic) standpoint: 7-9 depending on how well they can run and pass the ball.  Offense has always been a little iffy for them, but we'll see how the season goes come September.

Their offense was really starting to click in the middle of last season before Palmer got hurt.  They were putting up a shitload of yards and a lot of points.

I'm gonna have to go with the typical sterotype and say the Browns win the Super Bowl next year...

and the three years after that...

Time to switch subjects.

Temple Univ (from Philadelphia) is suspose to be joining the MAC....in football only (at this time).

Now the MAC teams can play at the LINC (while half empty) so they can be prepared for when they go to the Horseshoe.....sort of.

Good to see that the Cavs picked up Hughes. Hopefully, we can get a point guard with a 3 point shot and a good center.

So do any of you follow Frontier League baseball (below A level)?  I know they have a team in Chilecothe, because they show up on the transaction wire reports when there are slow sports news days down here in Baton Rouge.

I used to follow it when I was a producer for Richmond Roosters broadcasts.  They also have a team in Florence, KY, which had to play in Hamilton for a year and they completely sucked.  There were ownership issues and issues with the ballpark builder, but now they're in their home ballpark and it's a really nice place.  They're in first place in their division--too bad they're near the bottom in attendance with something like 1500 per game.

anyone score browns/bengals tix when they went on sale yesterday???  we got a bunch to the browns/lions game in October!  woo hoo!

FYI.....

THE OHIO UNIVERSITY will be marking it's 1,000 football game on national television Saturday, September 3 at 12:00 on ESPNU. The game will also be Coach Frank Soilich's first commanding the Bobcats. If you are not watching the Bucks, this is a great alternative! I will be at a bar watching them both wearing my Muck Fiami shirt! (it covers both games)  :banger:

Too bad I don't get ESPNU, so I'll probably be watching the Bucks.

Go Bobcats!
