September 6, 201113 yr This has been a long time coming. Great to see a Camden Post! Do many times have I passed the city on the highway and not taken the time to see the city. Looks like there are definitively some positive things going on downtown. I'm guessing that having a Rutger's presence has really helped?
September 6, 201113 yr Downtown Camden still has some life left (though the waterfront is a travesty). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 6, 201113 yr It became a parking lot with a soup can themed ballpark, a Tweeter Center, and an aquarium. But most of it...parking lot. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 8, 201113 yr This has been a long time coming. Great to see a Camden Post! Do many times have I passed the city on the highway and not taken the time to see the city. Looks like there are definitively some positive things going on downtown. I'm guessing that having a Rutger's presence has really helped? Both Rutgers and Cooper Hospital are the only ones expanding and by at least 5 blocks each. There is a plan underway to renewal the area North of the Ben Franklin Bridge , its a block by block thing mostly done by the growing Arab / Indian Community. The Hispanic part of the city is also starting to renewal thats up by 36th street. The Waterfront has seen a few restored factories that are turned into lofts , the rent is lower then Philly so people wanting to live in Philly have settled for Camden. So in a way its slowly turning around , its like what happened to Hoboken and Jersey City back in the Early 90s.
September 8, 201113 yr What is the tower being erected? One is a New Dorm for the Campus and the other that i didn't get a picture of is for the Hospital.
September 8, 201113 yr Downtown Camden still has some life left (though the waterfront is a travesty). Yes sadly that happened , but in some ways that may have saved the waterfront , which is now turning around. There are some plans to build retail and middle income housing there.
September 16, 201113 yr See...I was under the impression that Camden was just like Gary, IN or East St Louis, IL. I guess they've been working hard to turn themselves around. Looks fantastic. Thanks for the tour.
September 17, 201113 yr See...I was under the impression that Camden was just like Gary, IN or East St Louis, IL. I guess they've been working hard to turn themselves around. Looks fantastic. Thanks for the tour. They torn down several housing blocks and replaced them with single homes in the North , resulting in a drop in crime and a better community. Arabs and Indians have starting fixing up parts of the city and expanding..... Towards the North there is also a redevelopment push , but most of Camden is still behind.
