Damnit.

Wow.  What a game.

NFL Should fire that ref. That ball with 5 minutes left was intercepted.. You'd have to be on ecstacy to say otherwise.

Go Steelers!

Yeah, I didn't get that call...but I do know that Polamalu (sp?) needs to learn to STOP SCREWING UP when he intercepts a pass...that moronic lateral against us last week, then fumbling this week...

Go Denver.

(man, it hurts to type that, after growing up watching Kosar for all those years)

Go Steelers!

YES!

Way to go Steelers!  No one gave us a chance!  On to Denver!

F*ck them both.  Here's hoping teams get lost in an avalanche.

seriously, Pittsburgh or Denver?  What kind of cruel world is this?

^ I was thinking the same thing.  I don't hate Denver as much as you probably do, though (since I'm assuming you're a Browns fan).

a Broncos helmet avatar?  At least show some support for your AFC North friends!  Let's bring a championship back to the AFC North!  Go AFC North!

AFC north friends????

Carson Palmer...Ickey Woods.....Kenny Anderson?   Kneee, Kneee, Neck

You'ins got lucky---ya almost threw the game away; but that Int reversal was the worst call I'd ever seen

Browns fans... C-mon you will never win a Super Bowl in your lifetime... Cheer for a team who is constantly in the playoffs and going to the AFC Title Game.

That is tough on you; but it just shows how bad that franchise is.

Go Steelers!

^Yeah, yeah, and The Shot, and The Shot II, and you forgot The Fumble.  But it'll make it so much sweeter when those who exult themselves shall be humbled...

I have no "AFC North" friends.

I'd rather root for Pittsburgh than Denver, that's for damn sure.

I hate to say it, but I feel the same.  As a lifelong Browns fan, the Broncos have certainly inflected more deep and penetrating wounds than the Steelers have (plus I just watched a special on "The Drive" on ESPN Classic recently, so may distain for Denver is at peak levels).

^that is so true. the yinzers are quick to forget their 50yrs of total suckage prior to the 70's steel curtain glory days (hehe), but if i have to put my foot down it will be with the steelers, good luck to them. ugh, it is the game from hell for browns fans --- but there i said it!

It was 40 years of suckage.

There is no God.

Well, I was glad Denver lost.  If there is one team I hate worse than the Steelers, it's the Broncos.

And, to top it off, their precious quarterback put up as many points as Jon Kitna.  :D

Yeah, I actually hate Denver more than the Steelers.  The Steelers didn't keep the Browns out of the Superbowl three times during the period when I was a football crazy child.

Hooray for the Steelers!

the bus is going home!

The Broncos did that with a combination of astonishing skill ('86 season, The Drive - Elway was brilliant), Cleveland's own damn screw-ups ('87 season, The Fumble - thank you, Earnest), and simply by being a better team ('89 season).  I have a hard time hating a team just for being better than you are.

I could have hated them, though, if they'd have ripped out Kosar's knee on the 2nd play from scrimmage - then I could have hated them.

GO STEELERS!

As many of you may know... Ohio's 3rd favorite NFL team (THE Pittsburgh Steelers) will be the AFC's representative against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl Xtra-Large.  Post here to discuss the upcoming championship game!

I... along with thousands of my Ohio breathren... will be rooting hard for the boys in black and gold!

Here we go, Steelers!  Here we go!

That's a pity.

I always thought the Colts and the Lions had a decent following in Ohio as well.  But that Terrible Towel is quite terrible...

Meet 'Seven'

Friday, January 27, 2006

Meet Seven and his mom, Stephenie Barber.

Seven was born Oct. 26, 2004, between Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's fourth and fifth consecutive victories of his rookie season. Although Seven's parents -- who live in Indiana, Pa. -- are often asked whether they named their son after Mr. Roethlisberger, they were actually inspired by another Western Pennsylvania institution: After driving by an 84 Lumber sign, they "decided to go with something numerical," said Mrs. Barber...

Though I've gotta say, I'm a fan of completely non-traditional names - I love complicated foreign names, wacked out American names, and off-the-wall stuff like this...but still, it's just a little surprising...

No God.  There is no God.

Poor Officiating.

The seahawks got a break when that pass was ruled incomplete instead of a fumble.

Pittsburg recieved all the other breaks. 3 penalties on pitt. No holding calls.

Every hawk penalty was at the most crucial time and was touchy or completely a joke.

Matt H. did not get the memo that you can not tackle below the waist anymore. 15 yards.

I believe this will go down as the most questionable super bowl ever.

The announcers usually never question the officials, but they were scratching their heads on some of these calls.

If the refs got out of the way, this could have been a really close exciting game.

Every hawk penalty was at the most crucial time and was touchy or completely a joke.

it was bad enough that there was those bad calls, but it was even worse at what time thay happened at......tsk tsk nfl officials

The officiating throughout the playoffs was horrible.  These are supposed to be the best officials the NFL has out there.  What happened?

X is right the whole playoff officiating was bad. Even though I don't Like the steelers, they got the royal screw during the colts game.

The cynic in me thinks that the Tony Dungy/Peyton story was the NFL's first choice. The refs did not help the colts enough....

So, lets move on the the Bus/Cowher story instead.

But, how can you prove it?

  • Author

What's the Bus/Cowher story?

Jerome Bettis being from Detroit and retiring. Bill cowher being there so long  and never winning the big one...

There was no story for Seattle. That is why all you heard about leading up to the game was that Jerome Bettis was returning home

Suprised no one here has posted about Ben's motrocycle accident yet:

2 Thoughts, along with full sympathy for him to recover fully--no one derserves to get hurt:

-His contract should be nulled since he engaged in dangerous activity and refused to stop (e.g. riding w/o a helmet); Terry Bradshaw told him to ride after he retired. His health and ability are the reasons he has his job and is paid so well.

-7 hours in surgery seems like a long time to re set a jaw, how severe are his facial injuries?

-His contract should be nulled since he engaged in dangerous activity and refused to stop (e.g. riding w/o a helmet);

I'm with you on the sympathy, all the best to him and his family.

I couldn't disagree more on the 'dangerous activity' bit though.  He was riding to work without a helmet, a perfectly legal activity, when an oncoming car turned into his path and caused an accident.  No citations have been issued, although I would guess that they will be eventually, but there was a criminal act here.  Either the car making the left turn refused to yield (my guess - about a 99% chance in this sort of accident), Big Ben disobeyed one or more traffic laws, or both.  If you want to hold people accountable for being (presumed in this case) a victim of a crime you're headed down a slippery slope my friend.

Having followed his career since his Miami days, I really hope he fully recovers, and quickly.

wow he's lucky to be alive.

i read the stillerz did not have a clause about motorcyles or dangerous behavior in his contract. at least the browns did for wheelie popping wonder boy kellen winslow, jr and that prob saved them a lot of loot.

thankfully he'll recover, but i dk if he could ever play again.

My understanding is that there is specific language written into NFL contracts that prohibit risky behavior.  It's perfectly legal to skydive, but your life insurance contract isn't going to pay benefits if you die in an accident; similarly, it's perfectly legal to ride without a helmet in Pennsylvania, but if you've signed a contract agreeing not to do so, you're bound by that contract.  I have no idea how specific the clause is, or what dangerous activity would be defined to include, but it's definitely possible that riding without a helmet is included.

  • Author

Ah ha, correction - apparently he has no such clause:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05163/520196.stm

In many pro-sports contracts, employers prohibit their millionaire athletes from dangerous behavior, such as motorcycling. That meant Henderson and most of the bike-screamin' fellas willfully violated their deals. Yet Roethlisberger's contract makes no such prohibition. Easy riding for a $9 million bonus baby.

"When you sign a contract, you sign not to ride a motorcycle," Henderson said. "But he can ride? Wow. [Pause.] Wow. [Longer pause.] Gracious. I'm stunned."

So yes, in theory, the contract can prohibit whatever behavior is deemed to be dangerous, even if it's perfectly legal - however, that apparently isn't the case with Roethlisberger.

Regardless, all the best to him for a speedy recovery...hopefully the attention this brings can save some lives, without costing him his career...

He's a Steeler.  I have no sympathy.

Being legal does not equate to 'non' dangerous activity, RV's comments illustrate my point exactly. I don't hold him accountable for being a victim of a crime, or give him fault at being a victim of an accident (which it is an accident -- let all the Stillers fans argue that the old lady did it on purpose); but it is his fault for choosing to ride around in a vehicle that is more prone to accidents and without a helmet; he left himself more open to harm and injury that way. Why leave yourself open to that kind of thing when your a high paid athelete at the cusp of a possibly long and great career?
