You know the finance people came up with "RedHogs." They can just order some "Hogs" patches and stickers to cover up all the "skins" and the rebranding costs would be negligible. Sort of like the Indians did with just swapping "In" with "Guar"

Well you have to be low cost and possess a very thrifty mindset when you own a billion dollar franchise.

Also interesting that "RedHogs" is phonetically indistinguishable from the other former Redskins...THE Miami RedHawks.

I am tied to Buffalo by marriage and say there is no way the Bills leave Buffalo.   Owner Terry Pegula is heavily invested in Buffalo already and is only  leveraging the move threat to get public funding for the only NFL franchise that actually plays in the state of New York.

Personally I hope they leave Orchard Park and move into the city of Buffalo.    There is lots of open land around the Central Terminal there, which would make for an amazing NFL experience complex included around the stadium.

Buffalo is good for both Cleveland and Pittsburgh due to the close proximity.  It would be even better if Buffalo was in the AFC North.

This reverse alchemy that the Houston Texans has done with their offense over the past two off-seasons is amazing.  Before the 2020 season, HC/GM Bill O'Brien traded away DeAndre Hopkins, one of the best receivers in the NFL, for a middle-of-the road RB and some mid-level picks.  After being mocked for this trade and going 0-4, O'Brien gets fired.  They ended up 4-12 last season.

Then their franchise QB Deshaun Watson requested a trade after that season.  The new Texans GM went the opposite of the DeAndre Hopkins trade and said they would only consider 3 first-round picks plus additional assets for Watson.  Multiple teams offered 2 first-round picks plus their current starting QB - the best deal being from Miami for 2 first-round picks plus 2020 rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa.

But Houston said no to these offers.  And then Watson was accused of sexual misconduct and sexual assault in 22 civil lawsuits and 10 criminal complaints during the off-season.  The NFL is also conducting an investigation and would probably have placed Watson on the commissioner's exempt list, except that Houston announced he will not be playing for them in 2021.

So the Texans went from having one of the best QB/WR combos in the NFL during the 2020 off-season to having a mid-level RB and free-agent Tyrod Taylor at QB going into 2021(!)

Ha we used to go to the Thanksgiving Day game every year on our way to my aunt's place in Midland near Saginaw. We stopped going to the game because it's just too expensive now, but get to watch them blow it every year on tv still.

I loved watching those Thanksgiving Day games when they were still playing at Tiger Stadium in the rain/mud/snow. Now that was REAL football.

Is it me or is it more boring to watch on TV a game that's in a dome? I don't know if its the lighting or just the overly clean uniforms. To me, it feels like the game is being played in some windowless room with all white walls.

Raiders Coach’s Emails Included Homophobic and Misogynistic Comments

Quote

A trove of emails in a separate workplace misconduct case shows Raiders Coach Jon Gruden went beyond previously disclosed racist comments to issue broad tirades.

When the vaunted N.F.L. coach Jon Gruden was confronted with a racist email he had sent in 2011 to insult the head of the players’ union, he said he went too far but didn’t have “a blade of racism” in him.

But league officials as part of a separate workplace misconduct investigation that did not directly involve him have found that Gruden, now the coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, casually and frequently unleashed misogynistic and homophobic language over several years to denigrate people around the game and to mock some of the league’s momentous changes.

Source: Jon Gruden out as Las Vegas Raiders head coach

Quote

Jon Gruden is out as the Las Vegas Raiders' head coach, a source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

Raiders owner Mark Davis arrived at the team's facility a couple of hours ago and went to find Gruden, a source told Schefter. The two men met, and Gruden no longer will be the Raiders' head coach, the source said.

The news comes in the wake a New York Times report that Gruden used misogynistic and anti-gay language in numerous emails during a seven-year period. Earlier this week

NFL Network was first to report Gruden's departure from the team.

^ they are now saying these kinds of texts were found over at least a seven year period.

regardless, coach cleats gruden is out now.

watch him come back a few years later 'rehabilitated' though.

Meh. The guy has been a coach for how long? If he were actually racist it would have come out a long time ago. It doesn't seem like he's ever treated anyone any differently because of their skin color or sexual status. This is yet another example that the age old adage about "sticks and stones" has been officially cancelled.

If you need your gay and black players to trust you, and they find out behind their backs you're saying racist and homophobic things, they aren't going to trust you anymore. Your actions have consequences. I know you don't believe that (or believe it shouldn't be this way), but it's the way the world works.

What he said about DeMaurice Smith was mean and not very nice. But that should be between him and Smith. To make a larger issue out of it as some sort of racial thing is preposterous. People need to get a grip about that.  Same with his comments about Goddell. That is really between him and Goddell. Both him and Smith are big boys and do not need society to fight the battle between Gruden and themselves.

and yes, Gruden is a jerk. But that is not my problem.

You know this is simply not true.  Examples being many racist/homophobic or law breaking actions that have taken place over many years and be "silently' handled.

The NFL refusing to do any further investigation lets another cishet white man off the hook with no repercussions or consequences.

The Baltimore Colts of the AAFC are a completely unrelated team to the NFL Baltimore Colts.

Ray Rice punched his fiancée in the face, knocked her out, and dragged her down the hallway - and the NFL didn't care until the video leaked. Antonio Brown has sexually assaulted how many people now? And while I do enjoy watching Pacman Jones play - he should probably be in jail. Do I need to mention Ray Lewis' posse stabbing a guy to death and covering it up - right before he won player of the year?

The NFL has a history of letting everyone off the hook, not just white guys. All those guys played in the league after their crimes. If anything, Gruden is facing more consequences for writing mean emails than players have received for significantly worse behavior.

You proved my point.  The NFL doesn't care.  After 2020 and claiming, like many other company's to embrace and defend DEI, this happens and the man gets off with no punishment.  THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

What happened to those other people is not relevant, in this decision.

At a minimum, they care about "DEI" more than they care about domestic violence, assault, murder, etc. The results speak volumes - Gruden is gone, and guys who have done far worse were permitted to play on.

That is a huge problem.  Those 600k emails need to be released.  Not releasing them is not transparency and those emails will be used as blackmail, later on down the line, if someone mentioned or who had a deep communications in those emails, gets out of line, it's a way to "silence" them.

He was third string and dropping his last season.   The league had figured out how to stop him.   That's why he didn't get signed.

He started 11/12 games his final season. He had 16 passing TDs to 4 interceptions. He had a 90 passer rating and 500 rushing yards.

You don't understand - Cancel Culture and PC are defined in a way that only Conservatives can be a victim of it.  The entire point of the cancel culture / PC debate is to keep their base angry about something.  Soon they will find a new thing to keep their victimhood alive.

Not true. He's a serviceable quarterback. The 2017 (0-16) Browns rolled out Kevin Hogan, Deshone Kizer and Cody Kessler in 2017. Kaepernick was available. Kaepernick was significantly better than all 3. The Texans picked up 35 year old Brandon Weeden in 2018 (Kaepernick was available). God bless him, but Weeden is terrible. I could go on.

Yeah Kapernick masquerades as someone who was "cancelled" but the reality is he wasn't good enough to make the cut. Only a few teams have any interest in running that style of offense, and there are far better choices out there than him if that's your strategy.

If anything, the NFL did all they could to try and get someone to take one for the team and hire him as a virtue signal - remember when the NFL gave him an unprecedented league-wide public tryout that almost every team came to see? He cancelled it himself like an hour before the event, which was the last straw for most of the teams who were considering him.

That's not true. I'm fortunate enough to have close friends who've found their groove and excelled in NFL front office positions, and they've told me point blank that the media and fan backlash is the reason why teams hadn't signed him. I mean, currently on active NFL rosters at QB : Geno Smith, Colt McCoy, Tyler Huntley, Mitch Trubisky, Nathan Peterman, Blaine Gabbert, Sean Mannion. There's a reason the NFL settled with Kaep before the suit started rolling - the NFL thought it was worth it to pay tens of millions of dollars to avoid discovery.

Beyond that - here's the bottom line: the league knows they're in a pickle. However, they'll have less of a headache if they're seen as merely non-transparent than they would if they opened pandora's box.

It is true - the guy wasn't playing well in his final two seasons and spent them battling Blaine Gabbert for a starting position on a weekly basis. Even if your anecdotes are true, that doesn't negate the fact that his career had peaked and he was on his way out.

The 49ers were terrible in his last two years. In 2016, the final year of his career, they won 2 games and had the second worst offense in the league, edging out only the Rams, who were in their first year in LA.
