January 19, 200916 yr Yay Kurt Warner! I still love him since he brought a championship to my city back in 2000 :-D
January 19, 200916 yr Great I get to watch Shittsburgh play in another super bowl. I would give anything to watch them get completely blown out by the Cards.
January 19, 200916 yr While the Ravens and Steelers were playing, the only thing I could think of was what if that was the Bengals playing for a Super Bowl birth. It eventually drove me crazy, so I turned on HBO and watched the "We are One" Obama concert. I am truly DYING for the Bengals to make it to the playoffs!!!
January 19, 200916 yr LOL @ any Cincinnati fan thinking playoffs. Not until you retool both offensive and defensive lines, Who-Dey. Anyway, DiStillers should have their way w/St. Louis (LOL), but it would be great to see Warner win another. Bible-thumping aside, dude can slang it.
January 19, 200916 yr pitts is the much better team and they will prove it. i predict they'll win going away. i doubt if even an all-star team of the eagles-cardinals could have beat the steelers....well, unless maybe if it was a clone team of larry fitzgeralds.
January 19, 200916 yr I think the Steelers should win... and I think the AFC is a lot stronger than the NFC (last year's Super Bowl result was a fluke)... but I'm not going to rule the Cardinals out... they've played out of their minds on offense and defense in the playoffs... Fitzgerald is insane... and Warner is a proven winner... and while he may not have had a Hall of Fame career (those 5 journeyman seasons in the middle kinda drag his numbers down)... he has certainly had a few of the greatest seasons for a QB in NFL history (this year's performance included) btw, here's the Lamar Hunt trophy presentation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYVCjd9KEHs
January 20, 200916 yr Scratch the Cardinals off the list of NFL teams to have never reached the Super Bowl. There's only four left now. New Orleans, Jacksonville, the Houston Texans and ... what was that fourth team?
January 20, 200916 yr ^Don't know if you're kidding or not, but it's the Lions. I think the Cards might just have a shot at an upset. At least it has potential to be a close game!
January 20, 200916 yr Scratch the Cardinals off the list of NFL teams to have never reached the Super Bowl. There's only four left now. New Orleans, Jacksonville, the Houston Texans and ... what was that fourth team? NFL Championships>Super Bowls. :)
January 20, 200916 yr Scratch the Cardinals off the list of NFL teams to have never reached the Super Bowl. There's only four left now. New Orleans, Jacksonville, the Houston Texans and ... what was that fourth team? ^Don't know if you're kidding or not, but it's the Lions. Oops! I forgot about the Lions! There's now five teams that haven't been in the Super Bowl. The fifth team is ... the Cleveland Browns! Despite the Browns many NFL Championships, they have never reached the Super Bowl (post 1967 merger).
January 20, 200916 yr It's amazing that Ohio... with its huge role in the development of the sport of football... has zero Lombardi Trophies... I wonder which team will win Ohio's first Super Bowl... Bengals, Browns (or an expansion team in Columbus?)???
January 20, 200916 yr You're right. The NFL has a long history in Ohio, but no Lombardi Trophies... yet. As much as I'd like Ohio's first Lombardi go to a future team in Columbus, I don't want to have to wait 50 years for that day! So I'd lean toward the Browns. Every Dawg(Pound) has its day!
January 20, 200916 yr This could be the year i change my name from cardsnxtyr to cardsthsyr. Ha i was in scotland for the past 3 and a half weeks and thats what i come back to.
January 20, 200916 yr i wouldn't hold my breadth on ohio getting back to the super bowl any time soon. and even as a browns fan i wouldn't be surprized if it was bengals back there first, i have no faith in mediocre mangini :| oh well, at least i get some boss at halftime. that's all i'll get out of it this time. and ps evergrey stop lyin -- you are too ruling them out, because u know the cards don't have a prayer! heh.
January 21, 200916 yr Hopefully it will be the Bengals, and hopefully it will be very soon! Seriously, we have the potential (story of the franchise, I know), but we just have to execute. We had it stolen by a fucking cheap shot from Shitsburgh in 2005, but we will be back soon! Who Dey! (don't answer that...I know like 12 teams were in fact "dey" this year lol)
January 23, 200916 yr I don't think you can dismiss PHX. They have played some tough defenses already, Carolina and Philly. Their on a serious roll. I'm expecting a competitive game. The only thing I root for with the Steelers is a plane crash.
January 24, 200916 yr Big football fan aren't ya MTS? Big Time. However, the Cards-Steelers is being dubbed as the "sleeper bowl". SB interests is way down this year. PHX is a low market city. Who cares?? Seriously?
January 24, 200916 yr True. I guess I hadn't looked at from that perspective. I just appreciate the Superbowl as a piece of Americana that should be celebrated no matter what teams make it to the game.
January 24, 200916 yr ^ I agree. I love watching the SB no matter what teams are playing and I'm sincerely hoping that the Steelers get destroyed.
January 24, 200916 yr ^ I agree. I love watching the SB no matter what teams are playing and I'm sincerely hoping that the Steelers get destroyed. I do to, but to the cards? That doesn't even sound right? At least Philly would have been interesting to watch and we could have rooted for them.
January 24, 200916 yr ^Just imagine what you would have said if it were the Bengals. Benedictine is a High School. What do they have to do with this?
January 24, 200916 yr "We're from the town with the great football team... we cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wafrm6Aumjk
January 24, 200916 yr "We're from the town with the great football team... we cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wafrm6Aumjk I threw up in my mouth a little bit. SB tickets are taking a beating, they are the cheapest in years due to the participants, the economy & location. I wont be watching I'll probably go shopping! Go Cavs (at the buzzer)
January 24, 200916 yr I'll be in Tampa during the SB, but I wasn't planning on going. Maybe some scalpers will have tickets for cheap?
January 24, 200916 yr I'll be in Tampa during the SB, but I wasn't planning on going. Maybe some scalpers will have tickets for cheap? I asked my father, uncles, cousins if they wanted to go. All said no. They are expecting a last minute rush on cheap tickets. You can probably get a good ticket 3/4 days out. If I hear of any bargains i'll post.
January 24, 200916 yr Don't worry about it, I was just kidding about the apparent lack of interest in seeing the Steelers play in the SB.
January 31, 200916 yr Rooney has a firm grasp By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports TAMPA, Fla. – Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney makes it a policy to give out his cellphone number to all of the players. Conversely, Browns owner Randy Lerner allegedly didn’t even call the Jets before hiring Eric Mangini, the man New York had just fired. While those facts don’t fully explain the difference between a perennial contender like the Steelers and a serial cellar dweller like the Browns, it gives a glimpse into the chasm. Pittsburgh has become the NFL’s model franchise as it hopes to become the first team to win six Super Bowls when it plays the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Browns have yet to reach a Super Bowl. “Everything flows from the owner down,” said former Steelers defensive back Rod Woodson, a finalist for this year’s Hall of Fame class. “If you have an owner who is erratic and doesn’t know how to treat people, eventually the players are going to pick up on it. If you have an owner who is good to people and is supportive of the coaching staff, then it sets a whole different tone for how your team operates.” Full article at http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=ArzzpqWVcCW8YCy16w4RjKM5nYcB?slug=jc-rooneyincontrol013009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
February 2, 200916 yr I hate the Steeler's. Why couldn't the Cardinal's just have won. Life would have been so much better, at least until next season.
February 2, 200916 yr I hate the Steeler's. Why couldn't the Cardinal's just have won. Life would have been so much better, at least until next season. Cardinals? Isn't that a baseball team?

Isn't that a baseball team? I think that is Mentor High School's team and Monticello Junior High's sports teams. Can someone in Mentor and Cleveland Heights confirm? What is this Super Bowl everyone is talking about??

Who knows. They must not be that important.
February 2, 200916 yr Hooray for Ohio State's Santonio Holmes (MVP) and Kent State's James Harrison (100 yd. INT return)! Now the AFC North has SEVEN Lombardi trophies! Pittsburgh 6-1 Baltimore 1-0 Cincinnati 0-2 Cleveland 0-0

February 2, 200916 yr Super Bowl Insider: How do Steelers spell their latest championship? O-H-I-O by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter Sunday February 01, 2009, 11:11 PM TAMPA, Fla. -- Pittsburgh owes its record sixth Super Bowl victory to Ohio. • Wide receiver Santonio Holmes, of Ohio State, earned the game's MVP award with nine catches for 131 yards and snatched the 27-23 Pittsburgh win with an acrobatic 6-yard TD pass with 35 seconds left. • Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, of Findlay and Miami (Ohio), led his team on the final drive, moving the Steelers -- with Holmes' help -- for 78 yards in 2:02. Roethlisberger won the Super Bowl for the second time in five years. He redeemed his sub-par performance in the 2005 Super Bowl game, throwing for 256 yards on 21-of-30 passing. • Linebacker James Harrison, of Kent State, had the play of the game before the final histrionics. Harrison, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, intercepted Kurt Warner at the goal line and ran 100 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first half. It was the longest play in Super Bowl history. Full article at http://www.cleveland.com/nfl/index.ssf/2009/02/super_bowl_insider_how_do_stee.html
February 2, 200916 yr Hooray for Ohio State's Santonio Holmes (MVP) and Kent State's James Harrison (100 yd. INT return)! Also Big Ben from Miami U (you got w/ the P-D article you posted) and backup RB Gary Russell from Columbus' Eastmoor High who scored the Steelers first TD.
February 2, 200916 yr The only good thing about about the Steeler win was the shout out Rooney gave Obama. Doesn't he know Obama's going get him with the "death tax". ;-)
February 3, 200916 yr I'm just glad its over with. I'm sick of seeing and hearing about the Steelers...bring on spring training!

January 30, 201015 yr ESPN VIDEO: QB Kurt Warner announces his retirement from the National Football League One of the most improbable NFL careers has come to an end with Kurt Warner announcing his retirement. An undrafted QB from Northern Iowa that was initially cut by the Green Bay Packers, Warner had to work his way into the NFL by playing in Arena Football and NFL Europe before being signed as a back-up QB for the St. Louis Rams. In a 1999 preseason game, starting QB Trent Green goes down with a season-ending injury. Kurt Warner becomes the starting QB and leads "the greatest show on turf" to a 13-3 season and a Super Bowl victory. This was beginning of an up-down-and-up-again career that saw Warner lead two different teams to three Super Bowls. A career that featured four Pro Bowl selections, two NFL MVP awards, and a Super Bowl MVP. But ultimately, Kurt Warner will be remembered as a gutsy underdog who played the game with class. His retirement was no less classy.
May 26, 201015 yr Well im guessing most of you have heard this already. But yeah New York is getting a Super Bowl. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/2010/0525/New-York-to-host-2014-Super-Bowl.-Pack-your-mukluks http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/26/sports/football/26nfl.html?adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1274889674-t5PuFttRnTXOPuuB5Z8waQ Anyone else thing this is bullsh!t? I guess now Cleveland and New England and Green Bay and every other cold city should be able to host the Super Bowl. Now that they gave in and let a cold city have it im guessing alot of NFL fanes across the country are even more pissed off that there city will never get to host it. Hopefully something changes that allows every city get a chance to have it. But with the NFL you never know...
May 26, 201015 yr I have no.... I repeat, NO.... interest in hosting a Super Bowl here in Cleveland in February. I wish Cleveland's February on no one, not even the national media. I don't think it would shine a positive light on the city. When it was in Detroit, I thought the economic benefit was outweighed by the bad press the City recieved due to the fact that the media was pissed that they couldn't sit by the pool and sip mixed drinks with little umbrellas in them. Same thing happened in Jacksonville a couple years ago, although that was not because of the weather, but rather a percieved lack of activity in the city.

Football has changed alot and so has the Super Bowl. The NFL Championships were played in cold weather, fans stayed the whole time, and actually stayed in there seats and not go back to some lounge. But still, football is supposed to be played in all conditions and if you can play in the cold during a regular season game then why not a Super Bowl? It would be sold out easily. So once they opened it up to New York every city still deserves it. As long as you have enough hotels and other necessities.
May 26, 201015 yr Corretio Well im guessing most of you have heard this already. Of course NYC will benefit because of hotel rooms and the broadcast studios are in NYC proper. NYers arent happy about this. February in New Jersey is just as bad as it is in NE Ohio.

I was simply saying that the people who regularly attend Super Bowls have become spoiled and will rip our city to shreds if the NFL ever held one hear. I'll pass.
